Talk:Swiftness
Stacking?[edit]
Do the passive and non-passive swiftness stack? -- Blue Phoenix 23:49, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
- When it stacks duration, how much is added? I notice that when I try to use two swiftness skills at once, one will reset the boon duration rather than add them.--Knighthonor (talk) 05:21, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
- The animation of icon is reseted, the full duration is added. MalGalad 05:26, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
- Some swiftness skills have bugged interactions. Using "Retreat!" followed by Symbol of Swiftness will reduce your duration to 1 s. —Dr Ishmael 14:45, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
Jumping[edit]
I've been fighting my brain natural tendency to think this increases jumping distance, can anyone confirm this? -121.131.103.4 15:16, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
- It does. It's pretty essential in a certain puzzle jump in Eternal Battlegrounds dungeon. Mediggo 13:00, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
Movement speed[edit]
There should be a page talking about movement speed in general which covers the skills that grant movement buffs/debuffs including ones not applied via Crippled/Chilled/Swiftness. Is there a ceiling on how fast/slow you can go? Darreljnz 10:07, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
- We definitely need such an article. Movement speed can vary from effect to effect much more than in GW1.
- Btw, you didn't do anything wrong per se, by posting a suggestion on Talk:Movement Speed. It is in fact quite a good article name for the subject we're discussing, but I marked it for (suggested) deletion just in case somebody comes up with a better term or if there was an article on the subject already (I only checked after tagging that page for deletion, my bad there). Suggestions for creating entirely new articles are best done in existing talk pages so the wiki does not end up with unnecessary pages in the case that the suggested article name is eventually disagreed upon. Mediggo 10:16, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
- Yup, no problem at all - it was my inexperience with Wiki editing more than anything and I agree with your suggestion.Darreljnz 22:41, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
Warning: Not to be confused with Quickness[edit]
Just wondering if there should be a note in this and in Quickness' article. The words in ordinary language share the same meaning and are used interchangeably; in the game, it's not going to be hard to mistake one for the other and vice-versa though they have very different effects. --Messenger 09:02, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
Duration Stacking Cap[edit]
Wasn't sure where to put this so I added it here for anyone who cares. I tested it duration caps at 2 minutes. -- 11:06, 4 October 2012(UTC)
- I had always thought this was the max duration too (well actually I thought it was 2min 59sec) and hadn't bother to test it in a while, but I was farming with my warrior today using a superior sigil of speed (in conjunction with warhorn and signet of rage and only 10% increased boon duration from armor/traits) and I got up to 9min 59sec (proof). So it seems they either quietly raised the limit sometime in the past couple months or I have come across a bug. --Chaos Brood 18:16, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
- Duration stacking works the same way as intensity stacking - up to 25 individual applications can stack together; there simply isn't an indicator of how many applications are stacked, it just shows the total duration of all stacks. —Dr Ishmael 19:49, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
Permanent Swiftness[edit]
Can we list ways on how different professions can achieve permanent or maximum uptime for swiftness? -- Decollete 00:57, 25 December 2012 (UTC)
- Sure. All the skills in GW2 are listed on this wiki, and there's a calculator built into your copy of Windows.
Would this be a useful change in formatting?[edit]
Often when visiting boon pages, I am trying to find out a good source of that boon for a certain build or character. Would anyone else find it useful to add the boon durations and/or recharge of skills and traits that cause these boons? I made up a small mockup of a table that could house this information, this just shows skills, but traits could be in a similar table:
Weapon skills that grant swiftness[edit]
Skill Notes Symbol of Swiftness 8 15 Charge 10 20 Call of the Wild 15 35 Hunter's Shot 10 12 On pet. Quick Shot 3 9 Updraft 10 40 Windborne Speed 10 30 Chaos Storm 3 35 Randomly. Temporal Curtain 12 25 When you cross the curtain. Locust Swarm 10 30
--Emelend 06:56, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
- The duration and recharge is affected by traits and other effects, so it's not really useful to list them. Notes are the most important, like Symbol of Swiftness doesn't give swiftness if you are already under the effects. A table would be better than having 5 sections with 20 subsections each listing a couple skills or effects at a time though...--Relyk ~ talk > 08:36, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
- Of course those are affected by traits, boon duration, etc., but the current format gives no hint of the kind of uptime you would be able to achieve with each skill. I think having a table is a good way of aggregating the most important aspects of the skills and traits that grant each boon, and uptime is a big part of that. Currently, if someone wanted to find out how best to achieve 100% uptime on swiftness, for example, they would have to visit several skill pages, and several trait pages, when this information makes sense and would be useful on the swiftness page. --Emelend 09:24, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
- There are multiple ways to get 100% swiftness, you still have to plug information from tables. People really want a 100% swiftness article of course, but we can do one better. I'd rather have a page like Travel or a subpage of Waypoint describing techniques for maximizing your travel speed. That includes stuff like Ride the Lightning and teleport skills. That avoids designing this page as "Make your own speed up combos" article; some skills that give swiftness are complete crap for such articles.--Relyk ~ talk > 09:38, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
- I think you're missing the point. Finding how to achieve 100% swiftness uptime was just an example, I don't think such an article would be necessary when we have the appropriate boon articles to work with already. --Emelend 23:27, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

Any information on movement speed buffs from city NPCs?[edit]
In the various cities in the game, there are NPCs that give the player a movement speed buff. Is there an article on this buff? And how many % move speed bonus does it give? --138.75.144.128 19:54, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
