New info[edit]

Haven't seen any of this information anywhere.. But I thought you guys might be interested. I'm already thrilled by these features! --User Karasu sig.png Karasu (talk) 14:51, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

I'm not really excited about 3D since they're not utilizing the best 3D technology out there (i.e. 3DS technology), but that's some good info that they gave you! I'm wondering if this article should be a section on the GW2 article, though.-- Shew 14:56, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
Guild Wars 2 could be coded for it, but if the monitor does not support it then it doesn't really matter anyways. --SirrushUser Sirrush sig.jpg 18:47, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
3D would be weirdish.--Icyyy Blue User IcyyyBlue Elementalist Blue.png 20:22, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

hardware spec.[edit]

to me that e-mail and he provided spec. sounds like what they recommend to play "full, smooth effects and graphics". I think it's unlikely that a quad core would be a minimum requirement. maybe change the heading to "suggested hardware"? ~ PheNaxKian talk 14:57, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

Of course, I asked what I needed to get the best experience. The minimum is supposedly very low. --User Karasu sig.png Karasu (talk) 15:03, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
I tried to make it clear that the support guy only suggested those specs. To be honest, I don't think he was saying anything specific to Guild Wars 2, only recommending hardware that would be useful for playing any high-end game. pling User Pling sig.png 15:04, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

I saw an interview with Colin Johanson at the San Diego Comic Con where he suggested that the graphics cards for the dev machines were SO old that they had trouble sourcing them anymore... Gives hope to us that don't have dedicated gaming PCs/laptops --Nicky Two Thumbs 23:53, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm scratching my head a bit over the video requirements. I know my GeForce 6150SE is below par, but I'm hoping that the GeForce 210 isn't. Running round in circles trying to dope it out. Algonda 14:27, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

I just upgraded to the AMD Radeon HD 6650M card, just to be on the safe side... --Nicky Two Thumbs 14:47, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

im wondering, i am no expert at this stuff at all, i think im somewhat on the bare minimums of being able to play this game. i have Vista as operation system, an Intel Celeron E3300 2.50 GHz Dual core processor, a fairly new Asus Radeon HD 6670 and 2 GB of RAM (obviously well over 25GB memory harddrive but thought that was quite obvious :P). what would be smartest to invest in to make the game run smoother at this point if i want to prepare for Guild Wars 2? any suggestions? (Li Ngalfar 13:48, 1 April 2012 (UTC)).

Get W7 with quad core and at least 8GB RAM. Dunno about graphics cards. Mediggo 19:06, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
ah thanks Mediggo, just ordered a Quad Core, now just looking for a Ram thingy, thanks for the info! (77.166.41.94 09:08, 2 April 2012 (UTC)).

Hope[edit]

Here's hope in that they'll be able to be played on current laptops as well as desktops. Ariyen 20:27, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

Agreed!--Icyyy Blue User IcyyyBlue Elementalist Blue.png 20:32, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

Game Files[edit]

It won't be relevant for long of course, but should it be noted somewhere on this page that at release, the existing beta client will be updated rather than making players download that huge file all over again? That's a nice bit of info to know. Source -- Tekn0mancer User Tekn0mancer-Awaken the Blood 19px sig.jpg (Talk) 00:01, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Could somebody who mentions the file size and numbers add a date on which that information was true. "Currently" is insufficient information, because the very next day it could be different. I'm just running a fresh download and it contains more then 228.000 files. I'll add the size, when it's done.--77.11.8.215 01:51, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
It's 15 GB today.--93.129.166.185 06:52, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

chrome.log[edit]

I believe chrome.log comes from the embedded Chromium that handles the Black Lion Trading pieces.

(When you open it, it spawns awesomium_process.exe, awesomium is an SDK for integrating chromium into native applications such as Guild Wars 2)

Gaming Hardware[edit]

I would like to include a new section or new page on adding gaming hardware and how its used specifically for GW2. How can I go about adding this? The specific gaming hardware I am interested in posting about is the Razer Nostromo but this would be open to all types of hardware.

Conzar 09:40, 16 September 2012 (UTC)

Hey, I added the sections "Specialized Hardware" for PC and Mac to the article. This should provide you with a good place to add stuff and experience. Once this section grows, it might be moved to its own page. Until then I think here is a good space. Comments? Carmina 09:23, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Macs[edit]

I added the Mac beta client hardware specs and I will add some more stuff as soon as it becomes known or as soon as I can look it up when I am back home ;) In the meantime, of course, if anyone has info to add to the Mac section, please go ahead and do so, I have not bought that topic :)

Currently arena states that the game does not run on a Core 2 Duo, so the limitation to the i5 seems not to be related to 64bit (since the Core2Duo also is a 64bit processor and DOES run 10.7.), but to speed. For comparison, here are the Apple models that do support OS-X 10.8 Mountain Lion (and all of these are 64 bit!):

  • iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
  • MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
  • Xserve (Early 2009)
  • MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
  • Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
  • Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)

Of course, since the game does need 10.7 (Apple's first full 64bit OS) no 32bit processor-based system will be able to run GW2.

Known configs the game runs on[edit]

Perhaps we could collect some known hardware specs the game runs on... Here is what I know until now:

  • MacPro Eight Core 2.44GHz XEON, 6GB RAM, ATi 5870 w/ 1GB, Crucial 256GB SSD for OS and Apps, 2TB RAID0 for data, 24"@1920x1200, OS-X 10.8.1
  • iMac (2011) 3.4GHz Core i7, 16 GB DDR3, AMD Radeon HD 6970 2048MB, 27"@2560x1440 OSX 10.8.2 (max settings on windows, 30-60fps, medium settings on OSX, ~30fps)
  • Macbook Air (2011) 1.7GHz Core i5, 4GB DDR3, Intel HD 3000 384MB, 13"@1330x900, OSX 10.7.4 (lowest settings on windows/mac, 15±3fps, surprisingly playable.)

Minimum Hardware Specs for PC[edit]

I'm aware PC's are upgrade-able, but it would be incredibly helpful to have a few examples of off the shelf equipment that can run the game. Laptops at least. I would do it myself if I wasn't so illiterate when it came to hardware. --98.238.139.48 01:28, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
Personally lowest i seen it running was in my gf's pc... a 1.2GHz amd althon 64x2, with no dedicated graphs card and 4gb ram... ofc laggy and not advised for WvW/high pop areas The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.154.38.153 (talkcontribs).
You can start and "run" the game on surprisingly poor computers. It's quite user and system-specific what kind of preferences and resources they have, but afaik playing GW2 on any standard laptop does not provide much eye-candy or FPS, even if the game can be "run" in a sense. Mediggo (talk) 06:34, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
For a long time I ran the game on my Toshiba Satellite L455D w/AMD Sempron SI-42 2.1 GHz, 4G RAM w/on board ATI Radeon 3100 graphics card. It's not so bad to solo with, but lag becomes an issue with large groups. Dungeons were also a problem. I got stuck in the cut scenes. I could watch the other players fighting it out with the boss. They killed him without me and by the time I got unstuck, the chest had disappeared. --Randwulf (talk) 07:41, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
Even on a pretty poor computer, GW2 can look quite nice by adjusting the graphics higher. I'm running on a quite bad laptop, but it's still able to generate shadow effects, grass moving when projectiles fly over it, etc. Of course, I keep it off most of the time, because even for solo-designed content like the personal story, there's lots of NPCs and other objects that quickly drop the FPS to like 5.
With the lowest settings, the game is fine to play for most things. Very high density events, such as peak hour WvW, can get difficult. It's not so much that the game doesn't run, but that the computer just can't keep up with rendering things, so you can't see stuff in time to react to it. I've also noticed that the Fractals of the Mists dungeons seem to be particularly intensive. Compared to other ones, like Ascalon Catacombs or Caudecus Manor, I get significantly worse performance even when not in battles. Vili 点 User talk:Vili 08:46, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

Windows UAC, Run As Adminsitrator, etc?[edit]

Could someone add some info on about Gw2.exe and UAC, if it needs to run as administrator, etc? Argel1200 15:32, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

AFAIK, there's nothing special required in that vein. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 16:00, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
Ashley Segovia of ANet frequently mentions this as resolving a number of issues. Directions are also stickied in the official forums. Perhaps it's not "required," but it would be helpful to include some of the commonly recommended solutions to issues.75.36.180.51 18:58, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
For what it's worth - many other games, such as Star Wars: The Old Republic, are also suggested to be run as administrator "to solve problems". I haven't personally encountered any situation where this actually fixed something, but I figure it's just one extra click and doesn't harm anything (assuming it's installed on the admin account, anyway). Peripherals[edit]

Should we really be listing keyboard and mice brands? I don't think that's really our job. I don't think there's some conspiracy to get free advertising going on, it just seems really silly. Psycho Robot (talk) 21:11, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

I just think that if the game goes out of its way to support a device such as the g19 (has map completion read out ect) then we should list it, if it dose not then we should not.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 23:43, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
Late, late reply. Zesbeer is totally correct, however I think the "buy now" link under the Steelseries stuff shouldn't be here. A link is fine, just not like that in my opinion. Thoughts? — snogratUser Snograt signature.png 14:54, 20 February 2015 (UTC)
plus 404 links. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:02, 20 February 2015 (UTC)
Quick & dirty edit. Section header now links directly to the Steelseries page - ArenaNet no longer mention these peripherals on their site, other than a "partner link" that goes directly to the same Steelseries page. Makes you wonder if these things can still be called "official" GW2 products. Veni, vidi, viki. — snogratUser Snograt signature.png 23:40, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

Awesomium spyware?[edit]

Can someone tell me why awesomium tries to connect to the internet when im not even running GW2? 184.77.158.71 15:02, 7 March 2014 (UTC)

Feedback 2022/03/06[edit]

HDD space requirements need to be updated since EoD expansion the GW2.dat file is now over 60GB by itself. --12.172.179.208 00:59, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
