Talk:Map completion
Cursed Shore Reward[edit]
Upon completely exploring Cured Shore i got a lvl 76 and 78 exotics as reward. So Cursed shore doeas not grand only lvl 80 exotics as one might think from the article.
I too received two sub-80 items from mapping Cursed Shore, and edited the "Map Completion" page to reflect this.122.106.154.11 07:37, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
Things that should be added to the map completion[edit]
The discoverable ares within a map and the scouts should be added to the map completion requirements. You already get EXP from discovering the areas and once you talk with a scout it is removed from the map.--Gallenmuur 07:27, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
Rewards[edit]
The equipment I recieve after completing a map is not useable by my toon. Will there be a fix that takes your profesion into consideration when completing a map?--Gallenmuur 07:27, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
Meagre[edit]
Only 1 from what I've experienced. A bit odd? --snograt 14:20, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
- That's true for the cities, other zones give much more. But still, yes, it's quite weird. 14:23, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
- Are the rewards random? I got 3 transmutation stones, 1 copper and around 500+ XP for Hoelbrak, and 3 transmutation stones 1 copper and 751XP for LA. BladeDVD 14:40, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
- Inufficient data :p Seriously though, as a long-time wiki editor I should be adding stuff like this as a matter of course. I'm just too excited exploring and keep forgetting to screenshot stuff :D I'm sure that, eventually, every location will have map completion rewards added, probably with one of them snazzy templates that they love so much. --snograt 15:04, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
- lol, no doubt. Rata Sum = 3 stones, 1 copper and 1,030XP, which, at level 19 actually is 10% of what I need to get the next level. So at least at the lower levels, perhaps it is not 10%? Is there a better place for this type of info? BladeDVD 20:38, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
- alot of this info is outdated.. 2 green items? You get 2 rare's in 40+ zones. --82.156.55.28 21:50, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
Reward Scaling[edit]
I'm wondering if anyone's tested this extensively. Are the rewards for completing a level 15-25 zone (typically 2 greens, some silver and the transmutation stones, with some level-appropriate mats) equivalent to completing the 40-50 or 70-80/Orrian zones?Zetta 12:19, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
They don't scale. The rewards are based on the level of the zone. Falcus 13:22, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
The 97% "bug"[edit]
The title "Been there, Done that" counts the puzzles aswell. Which the map completion award doesn't count. --Shahaff32 15:04, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
- Well, I do not have all the puzzles but I have the archivement. - Yandere 15:07, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
Been there, done that[edit]
This achievement/title is wrong around here. It is about clearing the fog of war, aka discovering "areas" of the map. The five things (PoI, Vista, Waypoint, Hearts, Skills) for map completion chests resp. for the here stated world completion reward don't affect it. Consequently, the term "map completion" kind of refers to two independent things. --aRTy 06:31, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
World Completion reward for 100% ?[edit]
As far as I know, none of this happened to me when I got 100%. Vezz 21:08, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
- just completed the world. Got 100% and the title but not reward screen or gifts...
- When you get 100% you should get the last mail from the Tyria exploration socity, the chest icon for the lt zone you cleared will pop up and right next to it is a star icon will show up. If you click on the star. You will get a reward screen which gives you 2 gifts of exploration. If not => bug - Yandere 09:10, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
- Going into Chantry of Secret seems to give the %100 World Completion. Anraiki 04:32, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
- It is a part of the 100% and most people forget the Chantry which i why most people do the Chantry as last zone. My last zone was Malchior'S Leap because one of the Skill challenges were bugged and I did this thing last. - Yandere 06:18, 14 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks everyone for the information. I had 301/301, 507/507, 717/717, 202/202, 266/266 as well as the 'Been There, Done That' achievement. Going into the Chantry of Secret again triggered the reward even if I had been there before. Vezz 22:35, 17 October 2012 (UTC)
What's the coin reward?[edit]
How much are the coin rewards for completing zones, etc? I'm most interested in knowing if it scales, and if so, is it with your level or the zone's level? Daddicus 14:36, 27 October 2012 (PDT)
- Coin and item rewards scale with the zone's level. Waar Kijk Je Naar™ 08:58, 28 October 2012 (PDT)
- Thank you! Daddicus 12:55, 28 October 2012 (PDT)
Basic transmutation stone > Black Lion Key[edit]
I recently went out and started working towards world completion, and since I started focusing on that I've finished around 5-6 maps. I haven't gotten a single black lion key, only transmutation stones. Do transmutation stones have a much higher rate of being the reward, or am I just really unlucky? 217.211.107.44 03:28, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, the key is pretty rare, probably 20% or lower chance. —Dr Ishmael 03:32, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
- I'd say it's a little lower than 20%. Unless I have the worst luck in the world. I've completed half the zones and only gotten 1 key from completion rewards. AngelDiscarnate
Dungeons[edit]
I see the page says Dungeons don't count, but I did CoF for the 1st time last night (all map areas cleared long ago) & my completion went from 94% to 95% Witchcraft 09:31, 3 November 2012 (UTC)
Keep map completion rewards for later?[edit]
because of the 10% of current level experience reward, would it be possible to not open chests, and just keep them closed untill you need the boost/want a quick levelup? there are 36(?) map completion rewards (not including the 100% reward) so that would mean you could skip 3,6 levels. not really much but i can come in handy if possible :P Tweexx 01:54, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
- For map completion, it's based on the high level of the zone, not your character level. The article had this wrong, I've corrected it now. —Dr Ishmael 02:13, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
- I just tested this, completed "Wayfarer Foothills" (lvl 1-15) zone as a level 38. When opening the rewards chest I was getting 10% of my current level. It takes 27900 to get to lvl 39, and the chest gave me 2790. I did not claim reward and will update to see if you wait to claim chest at a higher level than you completed the map at, do you get the xp of your current level or the level at which you completed the map. --Konli 22:41, 18 December 2012 (UTC)
- I leveled up to level 39 but still got the reward for 2790 xp, so the reward is based on the level at which you completed the map - not when you open the chest.--Konli 00:55, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

Newer WPs[edit]
Some people completed a map before ANet added waypoints to the zone. Do we have a list of added landmarks required for World Map Completion? 75.37.20.250 05:42, 16 April 2013 (UTC)
- I think, only think, that if you have finished a zone then any new waypoints are automatically added - but I am not sure. --Claret (talk) 19:47, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- Nope, you still have to go out and tag new waypoints/etc. in order to get back to 100% map completion, and in order to achieve 100% world completion. You can't receive map completion rewards again, though. —Dr Ishmael 22:30, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
- Any player that achieved map completion or world completion will receive the appropriate rewards and titles, once obtained, they can't be obtained again. You will have to go back and grab any waypoints in a completed zone if you haven't gotten world completion.--Relyk ~ talk < 02:59, 4 June 2013 (UTC)

Account or character based?[edit]
I know that individual map completion is character based. Is world completion also or can you complete some maps on one character and some on another?
New WPs/PoIs since game start[edit]

- There should be a full list of them on each BL page, however do not that WvW is no longer needed for map completion. So if you only cared because of that, you can drop WvW completion. -Darqam 18:54, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
- Luckily I already have world completion from years ago but my stats in the top corner now show that I am missing a couple of newer ones and I can't find them, Have they been changed or added since I last player over a year ago? And if so what's a good way to find them :P T1Cybernetic 14:36, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
- Apologies, I don't know why I assumed this was WvW related. All of the new WP/POIs are generally in the 4 started maps, and usually very close to their entry point from the main city. If you look at those maps, and you hover over the map completion UI (top left), the missing ones should glow/shine a little. -Darqam 14:45, 18 November 2016 (UTC)

New map items vs zone/world completion discrepancy[edit]
After a long hiatus I recently returned and finished my world completion. When I completed the last zone I got the rewards chest with the two gifts of exploration, but not the achievement, title or account medal. I had all five "X Explorer" achievements for the different regions. I had to return to a zone I had completed before my hiatus and discover one of the PoIs added since (North Nolan Hatchery in Diessa Plateau) in order to get the achievement and medal. It appears that the reward chest looks at zone completion status, whereas the achievement looks at individual map item status, which can be quite confusing for people in this situation. I've added a note in the bugs section explaining this. 90.224.165.173 09:18, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
Bug still exists.[edit]
Just for reference I also had to go to the Chantry of Secrets earlier today 28.09.2013 because I did not receive the reward for obtaining 100% world completion. Entering the Chantry of Secrets fixed it for me. T1Cybernetic 15:37, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
Equipment rewards[edit]
Is it possible to get precursors from the map completion rewards? Would be nice to know. --Lustre Of Havoc 話 21:59, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- I...think so. I've literally never heard of anyone getting it, but since the rewards are random exotics, I'd say yes. Astronomically low chances for it, probably. --Ventriloquist 22:02, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- Actually, no. The highest-level rewards are from Cursed Shore, and you only get level 78 equipment from there, not level 80, so there's no way to get any named exotic, much less a precursor. —Dr Ishmael 22:26, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
- Ah, yes, that's right. Been ages since I mapped those lands. If they upped the rewards to 80, I'm sure that we'd hear about a few precursors dropping from there. --Ventriloquist 22:35, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

BL Keys From City Maps[edit]
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/index.php?title=Map_completion&diff=906724&oldid=903386
The above change suggested that completion of city maps will sometimes offer a BL Key. I (as well as others) have reverted this change for the following reasons:
- There's huge amounts of evidence that city maps only reward one transmutation charge, including lots of Reddit and official forum posts recommending Grove & Rata Sum for charges (without a hint of a chance at a key).
- The trend for city maps since BETA have been smaller rewards. Originally, there was a coin reward that was removed.
- There are a handful of people who love do map completion for their alts; they end up with a lot of keys, but none from city maps.
Of course, this doesn't mean it's impossible and it doesn't mean that ANet couldn't (purposefully or accidentally) change the rewards. It does make it unlikely enough that the burden of proof should be on those claiming a change in the status quo.
Personally, I'd welcome a change to the game that made it easier to obtain keys from a variety of sources, so I wish it were true. But, I'll believe it when I see some evidence. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 09:11, 31 October 2014 (UTC)

Southsun Cove, Dry Top, and the Silverwastes[edit]
I wanted to check in here before going in and making any edits. The rewards for completing Southsun, DT, and SW are not rewarded retroactively but are rewarded for characters who finish the zones since the HoT update. I just want to make it clear that these three zones do NOT count towards Pact Tyria world completion and that they have the same sort of rewards as all previous maps (2 exotic equipment, a bunch of crafting mats, and either a transmutation charge or a black lion key) along with some hefty experience. But since most zones listed here do count towards world completion I didn't want to confuse it too much. Qubicneter (talk - contribs) 16:10, 25 October 2015 (UTC)

Inquiry under the required maps for world completion:
Southsun Cove and Maguuma wastes maps are included in both lists of "needed" and "not needed" maps. Clarification required
- I don't see any place where it says Southsun Cove and/or Maguuma Wasters are needed for 'World Completion'. But, there's this: "The 25 explorable zones of Central Tyria, excluding Southsun Cove and zones in the Maguuma Wastes (Dry Top and The Silverwastes)." under "World Completion". Don't confuse 'World Completion' with 'Map Completion'. Inculpatus cedo (talk) 15:49, 17 December 2019 (UTC)
I misread excluding. You may as well delete the whole inquiry.
Gear Tier Map Rewards List[edit]
I'm wondering why Lion's Arch is included in the list. Or am I forgetting the rewards for this 'city'? I thought it was either a Transmutation Charge or Black Lion Key. Inculpatus cedo (talk) 02:17, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
