0No Recommended addition: GuildWars2Fans.com

http://guildwars2fans.com/ has been around for a few years already, has an Alexia rank of under 500 000, with an active news agitator and forum. It should be included in the list. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 101.51.192.149 (talk).

I'm against adding this one... for the moment. It doesn't show up in the top 20 in an anonymous Google search and, according to its own statistics, its forum has only 4 active topics in the last 7 days (10 in the last month). The front page news is the mesmer reveal (nothing about reserving name, BWEs, ...). While it meets the Alexia rank criterion, it doesn't seem to provide anything different from the sites already on the list. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:10, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
They have almost 1k members and a total of 796 posts. Not really sure what to make of that. Mediggo 07:08, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
While I don't think that this meets our criteria or our idea of a notable fansite, it does high-light a need to make it clear that forums should be very very active. Aqua (talk) 16:54, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
Yeah I agree. A dead forum indicate a small community or an inactive community. Both of which are classifiers for not notable IMO. --Lania User Lania Elderfire pinkribbon.jpg18:51, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I am amazed that a forum with thousands of views to many of the posts, and a Alexia rank of under 300k is deemed not busy, however this is not just a forum website but also News. It ranks #8 for me on "guild wars 2 fan forum" from Google.com. Is there some other reason this one is being left out? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 101.51.210.30 (talk • contribs) at 14:42, 10 June 2012 (UTC).

I visited the site several times over the course of the week of 22 May. There were less than five recent posts in the forum, often by the same person. Its news is also out of date (the first two articles on the home page are about name reservation and the mesmer reveal; there is no link for either of the BWEs, never mind the closed or press betas; and some of the news is from 2010). I visited just now again and only four of the eleven forums show a post in 2012. Of those, only one was this month; the last post in "general discussion" was in May. In the News Forum, the only active forum for this month, there is only one active thread, on the news about BWE #2. That post has 35 views and four replies.
In short, the site is barely active, regardless of why it rates high in Alexia or appears near the top in a Google search. The site might have been popular and up-to-date in the past, but it isn't now, which is why I cannot recommend it for inclusion in the main list. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:03, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I own and run Guildwars2fans.com, thank you to the person who suggested adding us to this list.

After my three years of so of running and creating this website, at my own expense and time, and dutifully promoting Guild Wars 2 to millions of visitors, I am surprised that you can not even offer us a spot on your list, yet, someone with a twenty blog posts can make the list. On the website there is also a 6 page Blog, but it is not connected directly to the website since it is so small at the moment, but with the many hundreds of forum posts as well as the 4 main pages, it would seem to dwarf a 20 page blog.

The forum after three years of being totally fine, suddenly was attacked with literally thousands of spam, denial of service, and hacks over the last three months, and we were deindexed from Google, which is probably why conversations and other such things died on the forum. Obviously with being removed from the list here, it is not helping things get back on track again.

Google has reenlisted us and we are very busy once again, though not with people talking, lots of people reading. We will continue to exist whether included in this directory or not, we do have a steady group of followers, and will grow. We did register as a fan site with arenanet, and followed all their guidelines to be included in this list, but obviously there is something else going on here. C'est la vie, this will give us far more freedom on what we do with the website and where we can go with this. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.49.14.55 (talk).

Security issues and little recent activity doesn't make a strong case. Those "millions of visitors" could just as well be those spammers or spambots you mentioned. Please note that this list is in no association with ArenaNet's whatever guidelines (I've never heard about?), though we list sites that have been prominently featured by them. I'm also not sure which site you are referring to with "twenty blog posts" and I can't find your blog, either. Also, you say that "it is so small" and "not connected directly to the website" so how does that make it any better for you? Right now your site does not seem very prominent as a news-type fansite nor does it have a very active community, as said by other commenters above. Personally, I think your site needs to go under some radical changes and updates to keep up with the pace of other fansites. I wish you best of luck in your endeavors to bring your site to the top, but right now I feel that it would be wrong to include it for the reasons you have provided. Obviously, that doesn't mean you cannot be included in future. Mediggo 08:09, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I've been returning to this site periodically because the OP was so vehement about its inclusion. This week (again, according to the site's own stats), there are six active topics (one of which is about this very discussion), with a total of 33 replies, which is slightly more active than when checked earlier. The news on the home page is still about the mesmer reveal and the name reservation system, the videos don't seem to have been refreshed in some time, and I don't see links to other features. There's mention of a blog above, but I still can't find it (not from the navbar, not from the searching via Google).

Fansites don't have to be perfect or look professional, but I don't think it's too much to ask that the home page be current (or even just redirect to the most active part of the site, the forums). – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 06:25, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

1Yes Recommended addition: GW2 Spain

I'll leave it to Fuse to support this recommendation in more detail. Since the site was added to the list already, I'm including this formal request to add it; if (as I think unlikely) people object, we can remove the site. What I see is a website with:

  • An active forum (all the GW2 subsections include active topics — the questions section include about a dozen threads started in the last 48 hrs).
  • A reasonably current news section (announcements about BWE2).
  • An empty manual section.

It appears to be part of a network similar to Curse.com, i.e. it's one of many gaming websites that share services.

On the whole, it seems active and robust enough to add to the list. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:41, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

1Yes Recommended addition: GW2 codex

  • Site: Guild Wars 2 Codex
  • Features: searchable build database. Members can post new builds and comment on or rate existing ones.
  • Reason for adding: useful and popular site.

A lot of people I know (and on the official forums have been using this link to share builds. I don't know how well it's rating system is for highlight best in show, but that is something that we probably won't know for months to come. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:17, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

One downside compared to other build tools is that you have to register to the community/site/forum to create a build. Several other sites offer tools which encode build to site url and thus can be accessed even if the build is not saved. Mediggo 07:52, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
The issue I have with this site is that any build can be stored. It would benefit from pruning. However, it is a builds site, and pretty detailed at that. - Infinite - talk 11:48, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
I'm not sure it matters whether the site meets our personal criteria for "best in show." The question at hand is whether it meets notability requirements for adding to our short list of fansites. (I think it does.) Mediggo & Infinite: do you have objections to adding it to our short list?
With regards to the site's (current) utility: I don't plan on using it myself because (as noted above) it requires registration and it's (currently) impossible to tell "liked" builds (let alone "good" ones) from the rest. (I hope that the site admin changes that soon.) – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:07, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
No objections. Just personal rambling. :) - Infinite - talk 20:44, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

(Reset indent) It appears that GW2 Codex is the successor to Luna Atra's skills tool. Mediggo 12:54, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

So, should we list both tools? The newer Codex alone (dropping the older Luna-Atra)? Or ? – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:44, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
I just tried to test Codex but it didn't even log me in properly so I couldn't get to it. :/ Mediggo 17:00, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
Okay, was able to create a build now. Works well enough, IMO. This might even turn into the next pvxwiki by the way there's voting, commenting and possibly some kind of community behind it. Maybe. It's also up to date (so is Luna Atra, compared to gw2builds.org), so if Codex is really going to replace Luna Atra's skill tool, we should go with Codex. Mediggo 17:27, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
Added to the list. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 21:13, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

1Yes Recommended addition: guildwars2brasil.com.br

This website ( www.guildwars2brasil.com.br ) is the first website dedicated to Guild Wars 2 in portuguese. We have forum, site and wiki, around 1k visitors per day, and we are on the 829,972 in alexa. http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/guildwars2brasil.com.br# At google, first search by Guild Wars 2 Brasil, and in brazilian google second recomendation, losing only for the official website.--Qoff 02:39, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Given that you're already listed in the other language wikis, I see no reason to oppose adding the main site. Felix Omni Signature.png 21:37, 20 June 2012 (UTC)
Ditto. Or rather, I see every reason to add it to the list. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:36, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, i forgot the signature in the first post. There are people who dont know where find information in their native language, usually this people search on the official channels first, so i think is interesting show for that people where they can find the translated information in all ways possibles.--Qoff 02:39, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
Man, I'm actually envious of your sky-blue wiki header! The wiki sure adds weight to listing, as does prominence in Google search and Alexa (rank 13,252 in Brazil, 829,972 globally). Forums also seem quite active, with several thousand replies in multiple sections, at best. Mediggo 08:43, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
Added. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 09:13, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
Ty guys.--Qoff 11:34, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
Hey, I'd like to request a simple change, it's a portuguese site/fórum/wiki, but they're brazilian (hence the name "Brasil"), could you change the flag? Thanks. - Valento 16:24, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
Never mind, just now I realized all fansites are listed per language. :P - Valento 17:40, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, even the "US" sites get the UK flag (even though this wiki (and many of those sites) use American, not British English). The internet hasn't done away with international borders, but it does sometimes create confusion around simple documentation (e.g. language icons). – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:46, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

1Yes Recommended addition: Guild Wars 2 Headquarters

  • Site: GW2HQ
  • Features: Create a Guild Wars 2 gamer profile, connect with friends, upload and share screenshots (create albums), join groups of interest (or start guild groups), create Guild Wars 2 blogs, start, vote and comment on polls, share Guild Wars 2 videos (discuss them), discuss Guild Wars 2 on forums, follow members (ala twitter).
  • Reason for adding: Guild Wars 2 Social Networking

GW2HQ is more then just a fansite with forums. It is a place to participate in all things Guild Wars 2 related:

  • The Blog section is a new feature allowing members to share their articles, news, reviews, creative works, and RP stories.
  • The Polls section allows members to vote on a wide variety of GW2 topics and comment on those results.
  • Albums are a great place to share your GW2 ingame screenshots, artwork, personal photos, and more.
  • Groups give the members an opportunity to connect within the GW2HQ community relating to similar topics of interest be it guilds, social groups, fansites, or any other groups of interest.
  • The video section is the place to share your YouTube videos, or any videos you found relating to Guild Wars 2 be it video blogs, interviews, trailers, reviews, gameplay or any other topic related to GW2.
  • Finally the forums is the place to gather for discussion about all things Guild Wars 2. From PvE to PvP to Crafting, Race or Profession discussion, stop by the forums and share your thoughts.

Always stay up to date with the community wide "What's New" news feed while commenting and liking different actions members are involved in within the GW2HQ social network. Guild Wars 2 is a new type of social MMORPG, and it's only fitting that the game deserves a social network /fansite that offers similar social aspects to it's gamers. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Marz (talk • contribs) at 01:48, 29 June 2012 (UTC).

The site is at least 8 months old and has 640 members (who have a total of about 1800 friends), total posts ~2600. The rest of the stats you can check by going to the site, they're right there... The site's a Facebook-style social networking and gaming site where people upload albums of pictures and post comments and so on, you probably know the drill. The OP is the owner of the site, however, and the community is quite small. Personally I could see myself using the site – it has several features that are not very common to some other fansites. Since the fansite listing is supposed to become more inclusive, I don't really see a problem recommending an apparently active community looking for new blood. Also found the owner's interesting post about official forums impacting fansites. Mediggo 06:55, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
I don't see a problem adding the site to the list because its membership seems to be active (updating profiles and sharing information). However, according to its own statistics, very few of its tools are being utilized. Only three of its top-level forums have a post in the last month and of those, only "Guilds Recruiting" has more than a few posts in June. There are no blog posts in the last 4 weeks, no new images posted at the gallery in two months, and no recent polls. (Even the post linked by Mediggo is three months old.)
However, I'm impressed with the level of activity in its Guilds Recruiting forum: a new post every few days with dozens or hundreds of views (again, according to the site's own stats). I think that makes HQ exactly the sort of site we should list (under SLP's proposal above) — it has a solid infrastructure, a loyal core of current (and new) members, and at least one feature that's both timely and useful. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 08:39, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for the feedback. The fansite has been growing primarily by word of mouth. It was once tweeted by ANet a long time ago which saw an influx of members. Since this has been posted, just curious if any thought has gone into adding it. Thank you for your time. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Marz (talk).
GW2HQ added to the list. Mediggo 13:28, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

1Yes Recommended addition: Guild Wars 2 Turkey

  • Site: GW2TR
  • Features: Forums, Podcasts on a regular basis, video coverages, articles, guides and giveaways (all in Turkish)
  • Reason for adding: Guild Wars 2 social communication base for Turkish players.

The preceding unsigned comment was added by Alph (talk • contribs) at 18:59, 12 July 2012 (UTC).

The forum looks fairly active. A lot of recent posts, a lot of (what appears to be) recent views. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 22:40, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

1Yes Recommended addition: GW2Versus.com

http://www.GW2Versus.com is a forum dedicated to World vs World PvP and features separate forums for every server.

We know World vs World is going to be huge, but players need a place to meet and get organized. ArenaNet has stated that they do not plan on opening server forums, so GW2Versus has stepped in. The site officially opened today and needs more exposure. Since this is the final beta weekend, we thought it would be a good time for players to be introduced to the site and start getting to know their server community.

I'd like to see what you guys think and request to be added to your fansite list. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 108.35.36.128 (talk).

1Yes Recommended addition: Guild Wars 2 FanBlog Poland

The site and forum exist for several years. It is the most visited site about Guild Wars 2 in Poland. Besides the constantly updated news section (always "up to date") it also features an in-depth database and a lively forum. It is worth noting that articles about the lore and every descriptive content in the database are suplemented with their audio versions.

Statistics:

  • Alexa Rank: about 400.000
  • google.pl for query "guild wars 2", "guildwars 2", "gw2" Recomendation rank 1 - 5
  • google.com for query "gw2 polska", "guild wars 2 polska" also highest positions

1Yes Recommended addition: GW-NL.net Dé Nederlandstalige Guild Wars Community

GW-NL.net is already active for a long time, namely since the Guild Wars beta. It has always been the primary Dutch Guild Wars Community. And so it is also an official Guild Wars Fansite (see http://www.guildwars.com/community/fansites/).

For the upcoming Guild Wars 2 we updated the website and forum design. Besides the facilities for Guild Wars, new forums have been added for Guild Wars 2 as well as information about Guild Wars 2.

All official News from Arenanet regarding Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 is translated to Dutch and posted on the website. The site also hosts forums for a number of Dutch Guilds.

I see no reasons to object here. That said, the translations could do with some work (but that's not what the wiki here should care about). - Infinite - talk 14:20, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
This was already on the list
Sorry, this one is not already on the list. The one on the list is a different GW2 Dutch Community, which started just for GW2. The here mentioned Community (http://www.gw-nl.net) is a different community which is already active since Guild Wars (1) beta.
I apologize for thinking this one was one the list; I hope you understand my confusion: the names (and urls) are very similar.
  • Nederlandstalige Guild Wars Community at gw-nl.net vs
  • Guild Wars 2 Nederlandstalige Community at gw2nl.nl
Added now (for real this time). – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 07:44, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

Adding newly recommended sites

I don't see any objections to any of the more recent suggestions, so I will add them all to the list. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 02:38, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

I was gonna get to it after noticing a number of uncommented suggestions, but you beat me to it. I hope not everyone else has abandoned following this page. Mediggo 12:09, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
Eh, there's no particular rush. And it was a good excuse for me to start using the template (so we can start seeing whether it needs to be updated and in preparation for going to a datatable-based system). However, for the present anyhow, I think there's just a few of us interested in the management of the article. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:39, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
