Custom keyboard / mouse / keypad for GW2?[edit]

For several of the big games such as WoW, SWTOR, etc... the game puts out Licensed products under gaming accessory companies (such as Razer). I was wondering if Guild Wars 2 was going to do the same thing. A cool thing would be a keyboard with adaptive keys kinda like the Razer Blade's side pad. That wouldn't have to be guild wars 2 exclusive, but ya. Or maybe just a skin on a pre-existing keyboard/mouse/keypad. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 134.117.254.249 (talk).

Console rumors[edit]

The rumors concerning a console seem to have gone from exploratory to "going to happen" due to a conference call. Crafting Armor vs. looting armor[edit]

Hello! I was wondering if you can get just as good armor levels as you can get by looting. Crafting is a skill so shouldn't if have good results if you were to spend lots of skill points in it? I heard that you can make your character more unique by crafting, so I wanted to take this route, but I also don't want to waste my skill points on smithing if I could have just worked on my warrior skills and looted better armor from a boss.

April 10th Pre-Purchase[edit]

Will it be possible to pre-purchase a hard copy of GW2 on April 10th instead of a digital copy? "grolly2"

I think it would be preferable to get more info on this before listing it in the FAQ. Exact pre-order content[edit]

In the official FAQ on the GW2 site, they say instead of a 3-day head start with the pre-purchase, you get a 1-day head start with the pre-order. However, it doesn't say anything about whether or not you are excluded from getting the Band item and guaranteed access to the beta events. Does anybody happen to know anything about that? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 87.211.65.189 (talk).

With pre-purchase you get the BWE access, 3-days head start, and the Hero's Band. With pre-order you only get the 1-day head start. So no guaranteed access to the BWE and no Hero's Band with just a pre-order. User Mattsta Sig1.jpgUser Mattsta Sig2.jpg 17:31, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

A Section on Registration, needed[edit]

moved from Help:Ask a wiki question

I did not see a section on the Registration process. Since one of the Registration page is flawed and the registration cannot be finished, is there a way to go in game? I bought GW2, got the reply that the sale went through, followed the link in the Email to the GW2 website and on the second page where you need to enter a date, the list of date does not show, only "DD", this problem does not seem to be covered anywhere and registering a complaint with NCsoft does not seem to generate any answer except stock answers that are way beside the point.

So, I see a need to cover this part of the game, since it is crucial at the beginning:

                  ---->  Can't register  =  Can't play  <---

What is more basic then that?

Thank you very much. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.213.218.72 (talk).

Two windows at once?[edit]

This should be in the FAQ, I think:

For GW1, we had to get a third-party utility in order to open two windows at the same time. Will GW2 correct this problem INSIDE the product? Or, do we have to wait for someone to write one up again? Daddicus 00:37, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

I don't think this belongs in the FAQ (yet).
First, you don't have to use a third party tool to run multiple GW1 accounts (although that can make the process easier for some). Second, it's arguable whether this is a problem or just an inconvenience; . Third, a lot of the advantages of having multiple GW1 accounts might not apply to GW2 — it's relatively common that GW1 veterans have multiple accounts to leech dungeon rewards, Nick gifts, and add cheaper storage capacity, but it's unclear whether any of that is practical in GW2.
So, let's wait to see if this is a frequently asked question before making it take up screen real estate on an already-cluttered page. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 14:25, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

Unlikely, since according to the Terms of Service you aren't supposed to share access to your account, at all, ever. Guild pages on the Wiki[edit]

I was wondering if there will be individual guild pages for guilds.

Example, you press the help button (Default F10 in G.W.) at the bottom of the list you see a listing of guilds. you click on one of the names and you are re-directed to the guild wars wiki and that guild's page on the wiki.

Will we have this functionality in Guild wars 2?

--Puggy 03:47, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

I was just re-reading the relevant archive from the community portal and there's be no consensus about whether or how to include guild articles. The issue is mostly that the GWW rules ended up requiring a lot drudge maintenance work by the community, while offering relatively little benefit to anyone outside a relatively small number of guilds.
I think we should offer a Guild-space for guilds, eliminate all but the smallest number of requirements, and leave maintenance entirely in the hands of guild membership. (The minimum rules would be: any guild article without an edit for e.g. 12 months can be deleted at will; the article has to be named {guild} [tag]; and nothing else.) We can/should also offer up similar templates, that would allow people to search for guilds, e.g. find one that is primarily structured PvP, has an age requirement, or has elite-play requirements.
In the meantime, though, there is no similar functionality in GW2W. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 05:32, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
Hasn't ANet said something about hosting guild forums on their site? They may make a guildspace here redundant. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 05:36, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
ANet says a lot of things (fortunately, most of them turn out to be true). I would think it's easier to setup GW2W to allow for Guilds now ...and remove it later, rather than scramble 2 weeks before release date to put something together. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 06:28, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
For those interested, the previous discussion of Guilds and space for that was more specifically here. I'm, both then and now, personally lukewarm to the idea. I'm not convinced that 'Guildpage functionality' should become an explicit or expected function of the Wiki--I think of them like the Character pages which are up to individual discretion in the User space--and I'm strongly in agreement that it shouldn't become a maintenance issue for those outside. This isn't to say I'm against it, and I did like the proposed page from infi, but in this situation of non-Wiki player documentation (as in: this is not information that I feel falls within the Wiki's purview, which is in-game information as opposed to player-driven/social information), I am extremely wary of saying 'let's go ahead and set it up and worry about undoing this later.' Redshift 09:07, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
I still stand by my proposal in Archive 4; it's a guild name space in user space, putting the weight of maintenance fully on the users part of said guild(s), as well as removing any restrictions that aren't already in place on user space. I feel it's the perfect compromise between having a Guild: namespace and having no space for guilds. - Infinite - talk 11:47, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
You can still find this proposal lingering here; User:Infinite/Sandbox/Guilds. - Infinite - talk 11:48, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
"I think of them like the Character pages which are up to individual discretion in the User space" Then couldn't you create a Guild: namespace and state that it is treated equivalently to User: space? It takes a single configuration line to create a namespace (well, 2, for the associated talk space), and that's really all you have to set up - templates and other stuff can be left to other people to create, and I'm sure they'll grow up organically. I really like the idea of guild pages being named "Guild: Zealots of Shiverpeak" rather than the clunky "User:Devona/Guild: Zealots of Shiverpeak." Forcing it to userspace could also create issues for the guild members where they can't decide whose userspace it should go in, or if the current "owner" leaves the guild, etc. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 12:37, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
That's not what they'll be named, though. Or is my proposal wiki-technically impossible? "User guild:Infinite" doesn't *sound* impossible to those without technical insight, which is why it was well-received on- and off-wiki. - Infinite - talk 13:13, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
EDIT: Also, the previous discussion was pretty clear in the fact that we don't want to burden the wiki with a collective name space with policies and restrictions, as well as standardised templates. I feel users should be able to design their guild page however the hell they would want, as long as it doesn't break any P&P registered "accepted rules." Guild: space is not a place we can leave regulated like that, which is why User guild space is a lot better situated.
As for guild leaders changing, that is why the move option exists (redirects could be left in place). Guilds are personal. Their representation should be, too.
Also note that my proposal is already a compromise on its own, and not a raw proposal. - Infinite - talk 13:36, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
I should note that I did not read the previous discussion before posting that. However, it sounds like your disagreement with me is simply a matter of naming the namespace: I proposed "Guild:" while you prefer "User guild:". (You also propose some mechanisms around how that namespace is accessed, which would work with either name.) As long as it is made clear that the same policies/P&P apply to this namespace as are applied to User:, I would prefer the shorter prefix "Guild:". —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 13:54, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
I agree that Guild: may be cleaner, but I fear users will be unable to discern it from the GWW namespace of the same name. A risky move that I'd argue can and should be avoided. - Infinite - talk 14:02, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
If there were a way to display a "sitenotice"-style of thing on all pages in a certain namespace, that confusion could be avoided. I thought I'd read about a way to do this before, but I can't seem to find anything about it now. If that sounds like a good solution, I could write a custom Extension:Namespacenotice for us to use (heck, something like that would be worth publishing on mediawiki.org). —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 14:10, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
That is in fact the ideal solution if it is possible. Also note that that notice would need to be extremely clear to point out the difference. Preferably displayed even clearer when editting pages in this namespace. I don't fear the Guild: namespace, per say; I really just fear the forces of habit and confusion that it will bring to the table. I still feel User guild: would be a visual indicator that different standards apply to the namespace, but after thinking it over I am forced to admit that an inexperienced user (who is still familiar with GWW) will likely be subconsciously ignoring the "User" part. - Infinite - talk 14:47, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
I understand your concerns. The notice I propose would include a link to e.g. "Guild Wars 2 Wiki:Practices and processes/Guild namespace" where we could provide more details about the system and how it differs from GW1W. Once people develop guild templates, this P&P subpage could include a link to the category to help users with creating their own guild pages, along with other helpful information and recommendations.
I realize now that this namespace notice wouldn't even need to be an extension, it could be put in Common.js. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:18, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I don't see that there is any burden at all in having a guild namespace, as long as we don't have rules that force the community to perform maintenance.

  • Apply the user space policies. (Use Ish's idea for ensuring that the Guild space looks a bit different and includes a site notice).
  • Allow inactive guild articles to be deleted (but don't require it, which means that bots can do the purging).
  • Offer templates, but don't require them.
    • Ideally, offer a {{guild recruiting|style 1|style 2}} template, which will allow people to search for guilds that are actively recruiting
  • Require an article naming convention (which is what we do for user images, so it's relatively little maintenance).

The issue for GWW was that there were a ton of requirements for the Guild namespace ...and no way to force guild members to follow them, short of deleting articles.

I don't want to see guilds articles belonging to a user's space because (a) the guilds aren't the user's; (b) how will anyone outside the guild find the guild's article?; (c) what happens if the guild archivist leaves? (yes, the page can be moved, but that seems like an unnecessary layer of maintenance).– Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 15:39, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

The problem is that GW2W will not have policies; we can't apply any policies, because users are generally free within their user space as long as they don't override standard practises (in a way, the practises are the policies, but they aren't set in stone).
I do agree that if we're absolutely, utterly, completely clear towards users that the namespace is unique, and doesn't follow any policies as found on GWW, it can work as you two propose. We're a unique wiki, but users don't see us that way, generally. This is my main issue; there is too much GWW influence these users carry along with them.
That said, offering templates but never requiring them (in fact, never requiring anything other than the common practises) is a good point.
I feel we can do anything we want for guilds on GW2W, as long as we make things clearer than clear. The more freedom (within reason) for users to document their guilds (yes, guilds do belong to users; without the players there wouldn't even be guilds) we can implement, the better.
On a final note, moving guilds would be part of user discretion. We should not involve ourselves with that unless asked to. - Infinite - talk 15:54, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
Just to make sure, by this point we're not really talking about having user preference pages but simply a Guild space with Guild pages? Redshift 23:33, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
For the records, I'm very much against allowing guilds to be documented here. Guild pages are the kind of social feature that could work in social media or in a forum, but are very out of place in what is meant to be a way to document the game. Just as we don't document characters, we shouldn't document guilds. I honestly can't think of a single good thing that would result from allowing guilds to be documented in this wiki. Erasculio 23:43, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
The wiki may not be a forum, but neither is it purely an encyclopedia with the sole purpose of documenting the game and nothing else. You can compare it to education. Is a school's job merely to teach students academics and prepare them for jobs, or does the school have some imperative towards personal growth and helping kids become ideal citizens?
Community is a huge part of any wiki (except maybe Conservapedia); with a poor/unfriendly community, there is less incentive to contribute. "Why should I care about the quality of the content? The people here are dicks." I'm not saying that having guild pages / a guild namespace will magically make the wiki a popular place, but it should help trend in that direction. A lot of users will come to this wiki "just" to document their characters, and similarly for guilds if we allow it. Odds are good that, eventually, they might take a little bit of interest in other things like wiki politics or maintaining the articles. More users, larger userbase, more robust community. That's how I see things, at any rate. Therefore, I'm pretty open to the idea of a Guild namespace or such, although I definitely agree that it should be open-ended the same way userspace mostly is. (Also because that makes it easier to filter RC by namespace so I'll never have to see it if I don't want to.) Vili 点 User talk:Vili 00:58, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
That sounds like you don't understand the proposal. It's not documentation - that resides entirely in mainspace. This proposal is for a separate Guild: namespace (like GW1W) that would be administered equivalently to User: namespace (not like GW1W), just with a different name to differentiate it. Users can create pages about their accounts and characters however they wish in User: space, so why not provide a Guild: namespace where they can do the same for their guilds? We should come up with CSS/JS to give those 2 namespaces a distinct style (like the Feedback: namespace at GW1W) and, if it is felt necessary, display a notice at the top of every page with an explanation and link to a P&P page. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 00:55, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
I understood the idea. I'm simply against it. The wiki exists to document the game. Userspace exists so people have a way to talk to each other and discuss wiki issues; the fact we allow players to embellish a little their own userpages is just an addendum, not the reason why those userpages exist in the first place. Within that point of view, guild pages are useless. They do not document the game, and they do not help us document the game. They have no place in a wiki that ultimately exists to document GW2. A guild page may help to build a community, but there are a considerable number of other places where those guild pages could be made other than here. And Vili... I really don't believe the guild pages in GW1W brought that many useful contributors to the wiki. Erasculio 01:00, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) Okay, let me summarize.
Arguments for a Guild: namespace
  • Easy identification of page topic from title: "Guild:Zealots of Shiverpeak" instead of "User:Devona/Zealots of Shiverpeak".
  • Creates an atmosphere of collective "ownership" of the guild page by all guild members, instead of a specific user "owning" the page in their own userspace.
  • Users will create pages for their guilds anyway, so rather than have them scattered around userspace, this provides better organization of guild articles.
Caveats
  • GW1W's Guild: namespace was considered a failure, mostly due to the extensive rules surrounding it. This wiki's Guild: namespace will have no such rules, applying the same P&P as are already applied to User: namespace.
  • To support this, both User: and Guild: namespaces will receive a distinct visual style through site CSS. To help users understand this distinction, site JS could also be used to display a notification at the top of every page (OR, just thought of this, only on the edit page within those namespaces).
Arguments against a Guild: namespace (with rebuttals)
  • Guild pages are a "social" feature that don't belong on an "encyclopedic" wiki.
    • So are character pages, but we let users create them.
  • Guild: namespace would be a maintenance headache to prune inactive pages.
    • We don't prune inactive User: pages, and we'd be applying the same P&P to both.
  • Guild: pages wouldn't be "owned" by any specific user, leading to hassles if a page ever has serious maintenance issues that require contacting the page owner.
    • Seems like we'd run into the same problems in User: space, no? Even though they are "owned" by a specific user, there's no guarantee that the user will see a message left on their talkpage, or respond to email, or has even provided an email address.
  • Creating and maintaining standardized templates is a hassle.
    • Without any rules that require the usage of standardized templates, this argument doesn't apply. Let users create their own templates, just like they already do for character pages.
I think that covers everything. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 01:14, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
"So are character pages, but we let users create them": we let users create them. We do not encourage them to do so. We have never considered making a "character" namespace so we would see "Character: Devona" instead of "User:John/Characters/Devona". Frankly, I would rather forbid people from making character pages than using those pages as an excuse to make a namespace for content that is irrelevant to the wiki. Erasculio 01:43, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
Actually, and slightly offtopic (but in response to Erasc's earlier comments); certain guilds need to be documented. What I fought for on GWW was a way to distinguish really accomplished guilds from the standard run-of-the-mill ones - there were guilds that won monthly tournament PvP matches, world championship PvP matches, guilds set speed clear records/developed X build for Y area and made the build the new PvE meta, etc. Guilds like Rebel Rising, Idiot Savants, The Last Pride, The Fianna, IVEX, etc made a big enough impact on the game, metagame and community that their contributions were worth documenting. Rawr, for example, was a big influence on izzy's (secret) balance forums, and thus had quite a lot to do with specific skill balances and PvP idea changes for several years - a very tangible effect in the game. Fianna and IVEX had early PvP bars so popular ANet added them in as part of their premade list. Last Pride won a world championship against fierce competition. A wiki documenting a video game without mention of any of these guilds would certainly be an incomplete one!
While I don't care one way or another about Guild: namespace or User/Guild: namespace, the exceptionally influential guilds should be documented in the mainspace (with all the standards and requirements of mainspace articles - high quality, impartial tone, screenshots and references/links to proof of their impact on the game or community). There comes a point when a guild's actions can effect the game so much that it's worth documenting - and that documentation belongs in the mainspace, where the rest of the documentation is done. -Auron 05:57, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
/agree, guilds like that definitely deserve the distinction of a mainspace article. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 06:18, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
My original stance was that of Erasculio, plus the exception of officially acknowledged special guilds (such as ZoS back in the day). Other than that I have always felt (and still feel) that individual guilds and characters documentation should wholly remain in user space; both of these are 100% users-generated. I feel main space should be reserved for documenting the game, and user space for documenting, well, user-side additions, such as guilds and characters. The main space documents the basics of a guild and character (and officially acknowledged guilds), the users in their user space document their individual guilds and characters. Guilds ultimately always belong to a user, whether they circulate leaders or not.
Because of the clear opposition back then, I started working towards my proposal of back then; the User guild: namespace and guild tab, to generate indexes for users to show off in which guilds they are recruited (or may own). Other than that, I didn't feel the need to be any more rewarding of the whole "we want guilds documented in a Guild: namespace!" And I still don't, but I am willing to make the compromises I have been making during this process.
But not any further. I feel User guild: and a guild tab on user space is plenty of tools to document and keep track of guilds; it does not merit its GWW-familiar namespace by any means, if that namespace causes unnecessary confusion, and worse, implies to other users that this namespace is a wiki-wide effort. Which it will never be, because the users should be documenting the game, not other people's guilds. - Infinite - talk 13:14, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
Notable guilds (for whatever criteria we come to later for what counts as notable, not necessarily ZoS-famous) can be documented in the mainspace, while other guilds are fine left under the purview of userspace. If the latter set of pages fall into disarray or become outdated, I don't see where that's anyone's responsibility but the guild members. As a courtesy, it might be nice if someone set up some sort of basic framework for such userspace guild pages (an infobox, a recommended formatting guide, categories), but making it clear that these are only recommendations: anyone who wants to set up a guild page in their userspace is free to do so however they want, as long as they don't break any general rules (e.g. NPA, copyvio, etc). It's ultimately on whoever's userspace it's in.
Mainspace pages for notable guilds, by contrast, would belong to the community at large rather than the guild in particular (the same guilds would be welcome to have their own userspace guild pages too, if they wanted). We document as we see fit to benefit wiki readers, informative and neutral. I don't really expect any of these pages to pop up until release for the simple reason that they need to at least exist in-game first. A list of significant guilds per world (assuming guilds are generally correlated to worlds) could also be included on articles for each world, and/or a "List of notable guilds by world" page (with a cross-world or world-independent or whatever section).
I really don't want to see the pseudo-user/pseudo-main hybrid guildspace that GW1W has, where the entire community is left holding the bag for hundreds if not thousands of people's personal 2- to 10-person pet guilds that they make one half-hearted attempt to make the page and then leave it to rot, except to come back a year later (if ever) and complain that it was deleted. - Tanetris 16:58, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
Every guild has a leader, and users are free to edit in each others' userspace as long as they have permission. If a guild particularly wanted, they could even make a sockpuppet account specifically to host the guild's page. Who can then edit and maintain that page is up to what the hosting user account says, that's all. It's about having someone to take responsibility for the page; outside of the user namespace, all pages are by default the responsibility of the community, and as part of the community, I don't want responsibility for the vast majority of what would likely be in a guild namespace. A guild is not an identifiable entity within the wiki, so there's no way to say "Oh, you have a problem with that guild page, just contact the guild" the way you can with a user. If there's a guild namespace, it reflects on the wiki as a whole, which means stricter standards, less freedom for individual guilds to express themselves how they want to, and more work for the community at large. Everyone loses.
I agree that GW1W's system working poorly doesn't necessarily mean that a guild namespace here is a bad idea, but it seems like the entire conversation is based on the assumption that GW1W having a guild namespace and guilds being in GW2 means that having a guild namespace here is a good idea, or even a necessity/inevitability, which it doesn't either. A guild namespace was an attempted solution to the lack of guild documentation on GW1W; it's not the only possible one. - Tanetris 18:59, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
From the perspective of the wiki, a guild does not exist. The wiki software does not track members of a guild; in fact if whoever set up the guild page (assuming that person was a member, which we don't really know) either leaves the guild or leaves the wiki, there may not be anyone on the wiki who's in the guild at all. By contrast, a user is always a user, and there are tools specifically set up for contacting users, such as user talk pages and the "E-mail this user" function. We can tell quickly and easily if a user is still around the wiki by checking their contribs. Unless we set up extremely restrictive rules on who may create guild pages and how they must be maintained (which would, again, create work for the community in terms of monitoring if nothing else), I don't believe it's possible to have that level of accountability for a guild. It doesn't matter how many people are involved if we don't have a reliable way to find them. - Tanetris 21:22, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
Totally original response for totally original discussion. - Tanetris 21:19, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
Why do I feel like no one is paying attention to my suggestions? Oh, probably because they're not. Meh. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 21:37, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
I agree with the October 2011 Tanetris. IMO, this kind of thing is best left for within the userspace, with the exceptions described by Auron (and those exceptions would have articles that are created and mantained by the community with only factual information, not by the guild members themselves or with speech such as "we are a guild of..." and etc). Erasculio 21:47, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) All but most notable guilds can go elsewhere on the Internet for all I care. In my eyes, contacting leader, officers or members of inactive guild is as a big hassle in either Guild: or User: space, so I suggest we let the situation go on as it has been going on here; Having guilds leaders keep their guild pages and leave them to their responsibility, outside of obvious vandalism or disrupting, of course. Mediggo 21:51, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
Ish: I assure you I read each of your posts, and TEF's, and in fact everyone's here, and that's a large reason I c&p'ed my second and third posts from the previous discussion along with the first. Without rehashing those points, I will say that the problem with the GW1W Guild: namespace had less to do with specific sets of rules there and more to do with problems I consider inherent to any Guild: namespace. Namely, having all the quality control of userspace (i.e. practically none (which would require nigh-infinite man-hours to actually achieve and maintain a reasonable standard)) with all the accountability of mainspace (i.e. none for individuals, all for the community at large (which no amount of disclaimers is going to solve)). - Tanetris 22:24, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

A renewed request to include guild pages[edit]

(Reset indent) Guild pages DO belong into a game 'encylopedia'. They are part of the game. They make the game experience as much as the game itself. They make the pvp ladders, the pve progress, they live long after all content has been eaten. In fact, they ARE the content. If this is the official wiki, guilds should be here - if you want info about the game, where do you go? Right, to the wiki. And i do mean ALL guilds, not just some. Why would you call THIS guild important, but THAT guild not? The game hasn't been released yet, and what was a kewl guild in gw1 won't necessarily be equally kewl in gw2. Limit guild pages to one page only maybe, within a strict template. Guild leaders who take their own guild serious will keep it updated. Can't you put something automated in so that guild page users report once every 4 (6?) months? If they don't report in, the page is deleted automatically. - However, it might be better to wait with implementation until launch when we know what Arenanet will do themselves. --Ee 16:28, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

The problem with guild pages is: are we documenting guilds or are we providing hosting for a guild page? We could just have a guild namespace and let it do whatever, but who's actually in charge of a guild? Do we have any limits on what people can do with their pages? --JonTheMon 17:29, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

You do know that wiki pages can be modified by ANYONE?? Would you really want your guild page on here where anyone can come in and write anything?? <------ SEE

Well even if you like to vandalize pages, you do leave your IP, which can be banned. It's up to the guild if they want to be found on here, and if so they should know that their page can be vandalized. There's always history to easily return to the previous version, and it's up to the guild to keep an eye on it. Then again, serious guilds have their own sites/forums, so maybe just a list with links would be enough. Anyway, Arenanet might get their own guild pages up, so i think we should wait until we know. --Ee 05:43, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
Guild pages on a wiki is in many cases nothing more than a easy guild site that ends up getting messy like GWW's guild name space. I think we can document notable guilds (like PvP champions etc), but just documenting any old guild and maintaining them is just beyond the scope of the wiki. --Lania User Lania Elderfire pinkribbon.jpg16:07, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
No one ever said Guild pages wouldn't be included at all. We mostly agree that they can be documented in user space, under the user's own and guild-effort supervision, with no obligations from outsiders. This is the least effort wiki-wise, and the most freedom we can offer at any point in time. - Infinite - talk 16:21, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
People can and have already setup some kind of guild page or sub page in people's userpage. That is fine since quality control and content formatting is up to the user/guild. What I don't want is the creation of a guild name space with the same restrictions of formatting and quality control as the main name space. I'm not really completely clear on what Ee wants but it sounds like Ee wants something more "official" than a guildpage within the user name space. --Lania User Lania Elderfire pinkribbon.jpg18:43, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
Yup, that's my impression as well. I feel the discussion above his request was really quite clear that we can't realistically realise an "official" guild space, though. User space is actually a blessing for guilds, even though the URL formatting may be a little extra work. I think people want it to be very clear that we are not a wiki to "host" guilds. - Infinite - talk 18:47, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
It's a her, not a his ;-). And i didn't put that title "renewed request..." there, i just wanted to add my opinion to the above discussion; i didn't know the discussion was over already (now i do!). I'm fine with anything btw, my guild has its own site and doesn't recruit through forums or such; i was merely considering what the majority of guild leaders would probably think about this. --Ee 20:08, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
I apologise for the gender mix-up there! Discussions are never over, but you can tell where a new discussion will end up at by looking at the previous discussion. Guilds are not a fundamental part of the game in the sense that we can document the game fully by not documenting player-run guilds. That is mostly why guild space here doesn't reach consensus on implementation. It's a lot of optional and unnecessary work that no one wants to put effort into, I believe. - Infinite - talk 20:11, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

If we allow User pages to have game character info or other RP stuff in them, then it makes sense to allow guild info in User pages at least (and I think it's approved so far). But the thing is this will create a lot of redundancy if a lot of users from the same guild start having a guild page in their respective user spaces, hence why a guild namespace is the logical follow-up (unless you intend to enforce only one page for a given guild, but then good luck monitoring this). I personally think that game character/RP stuff does not belong on the wiki (even in user pages) in the first place. But I'm just saying, if the admins/veterans/.. choose to allow this type of content, then having a guild namespace should simply be seen as the logical consequence of that first decision, not something entirely different which can be considered separately. The Evanescent 19:27, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

If there are redundant guild pages within the user space of various users in the same guild, I don't think there will be a problem. Additionally it is a issue that will likely not to happen. The reason the user space has a lot of freedom in the way users want to edit is because that's what the community wants, causes less conflict than a regulated user space, and that's just how most major game wikis work, and it works fine. If multiple users want to make their own guild page for the same guild, let them... as long as it's in their user space it won't cause problems for the rest of the wiki. --Lania User Lania Elderfire pinkribbon.jpg20:35, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
By logical extension, if we allow reviews of other games/TV shows/etc in userspace (which we do, as long as it doesn't get spammy), we should have a Review: namespace to organize that content. Except that would be silly and off-topic.
There is a big difference between what we allow and what we support. What we support is documenting the game. Providing space for every 5-person guild someone makes on a whim doesn't really further this goal, thus many of us are opposed to putting in the work necessary to create and maintain a special Guild: namespace just for this; work that, from previous experience, many of us believe would be so massive an undertaking as to interfere with mainspace work and still not live up to appropriate wiki standards. What we allow, on the other hand, is damn-near anything that doesn't in some way interfere with the goal of documenting the game (e.g. vandalism, off-topic in the mainspace, off-topic in sufficient quantities to qualify as spam, attacking/trolling other users, etc are no-no's).
Long story short, to address your specific example problem if a guild winds up with multiple pages in different editors' userspace, that's entirely between those users whether they want to combine into one user's (redirecting from the others) or maintain their own individual ones, whichever makes them happy. In either case, I don't see where it's an issue for the wiki at large. - Tanetris 20:38, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
I was just thinking about having all these "off-topic" game-related user pages and stuff here on GW2W, and I think forcing users to get rid of them would result in quite a "all work and no fun" wiki environment. We're all voluntarily working here towards this wiki's goal, so as long as having content unrelated to actual documentantion of the game does not affect the site or community's functioning in a harmful way, or cause any other harm such as what Tanetris mentioned, it should be allowed.
Plus, when it comes to character pages and such, ArenaNet actually said not too long ago that they'd love to see what all kinds of backstories the playerbase can create for their characters in their (ANet's) world, so char articles within user space should definitely be allowed. Mediggo 08:21, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

AddOns?[edit]

How about them? will they be supported? I can see why the typical "Player support" addon would be icky on a game like that, but how about other stuff? To give a specific example, back in my WoW day i had an addon that allows for custom music for combat etc. I know this is supported by the client, but i'd like something more sophisticated, like recognizing the boss (or at least dungeon) and using appropriate music (because fighting Zaitan with One-Winged Angel playing in the background is as awesome as fighting Joe the Bandit with the same song is lame). Being a programmer (in the making) myself, i'm especially curious on that subject. How much are they supported, or opposed? Being the only source of examples i have, in WoW you got the addon, dropped it in a pre-specified folder of the client, and could even manage them with client-offered tools. Will GW2 offer such support, or at least allow the program access to the necessary data, or neither?

Xhosant 09:51, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

I may be mistaking but I believe you can already play custom music during gameplay without add-ons. I will look up the information momentarily. Other than that; add-ons will not be supported nor allowed. - Infinite - talk 12:32, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
GW1 had the DirectSong mechanism, but GW2 doesn't (yet?), so I don't know if this will be possible. In any case, "One-Winged Angel" is sooooooooooo last decade century. :P —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 12:42, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
"Finally, no matter how fantastic a game’s music is, when you hear the same music for the thousandth time, you start wanting to change things up a bit. Many players will simply turn the game music off and play their own collections. The problem is that an external music player has no context as to what’s going on in-game. Guild Wars 2 will offer a solution for this as well. We’re giving players the option of choosing external music playlists that the game’s audio engine will use as a replacement for the default in-game music. Players can choose different playlists for background ambience and battle music, for instance. Additionally, when appropriate, such as during cinematics, the game can revert back to in-game music temporarily to give the best possible cinematic experience, then resume the custom playlist when it’s done. - James Boer"
So there you go. - Infinite - talk 12:57, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
Oh spiffy. I hope they provide a better interface for it than "edit this configuration file with obscure parameter names." —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 13:11, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
It's very simple actually, just drop an appropriately named sound file using an appropriate format into the music folder. There is actually a thread on the official forum that has posts by James Boer that goes into it. Not sure if the official forums are up right now, but if it is, you should be able to find the thread by looking at James/Jim Boer's posts. 202.72.135.193 00:57, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
Re: "add-ons will not be supported nor allowed" - have they explicitly stated that third-party programs are prohibited? For GW1, they tacitly allowed them by talking around the issue and simply warning against the dangers of malware. Thus, TexMod, GW DressUp, etc. I don't see why Anet would change their stance on this issue, and I don't remember them making any sort of statement about this yet, but maybe I missed it. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 14:35, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
I believe they have explicitly stated it again recently, but I would have to find a source to reconfirm that statement. I hope this won't take me too long... - Infinite - talk 14:46, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
EDIT: Contrary to what they state, their User Agreement has a lot more details that take contradict their statements in parts:
"15. THIRD PARTY TECHNOLOGY

So I guess they technically don't allow them (though definitely never support them) unless they specifically abide by terms and conditions specified...? Legal field is not a forte of mine. - Infinite - talk 14:52, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
Well if we're gonna quote the User Agreement...

- Guild Wars User Agreement
That sounds like an absolute ban on any derivative works, yet the official wiki has a listing of TexMod packages. So... *shrug* —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:12, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
But that is the Guild Wars User Agreement. :P - Infinite - talk 15:14, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
I quoted it to make the example of just how strictly it was enforced, i.e. not at all in regards to derivative works. It sets a precedent for how strictly they'll enforce it on future games, although it's not a guarantee that they won't. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:20, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
My take on this after following the conversations that Gaile Gray had with modders and various users of 3rd party programs is this... IF the 3rd party program does not impart in anyway any level of advantage w/o human input then it will generally be okay. So many things with texmod is generally okay to use, or anything that only occurs on the client side. Macros for PvP is strictly prohibited as it creates too much advantage where real world money rewards are available, but macros are okay for PvE as long as the user have to actively use it w/o creating a level of automation. But... this is a big BUT... and that Anet reserves the right to ban people for any reason whenever the use of texmods, macros or anything is abused or when they feel like the usage is abused. They seem to indicate that this stance won't change for GW2. To me the GW2 useragreement above for 3rd party software is basically a liability waiver if and when you do use unsupported 3rd party software. It also contains things about licensing to use for 3rd party components that come with GW2 like Havok or other API/engines and that the purchase of GW2 does not impart a license to use the 3rd party software for other purposes except for how it is integerated in the game. Basically you cant take the havok engine (that Anet licensed but does not own) from GW2 and use it for something else.
EDIT: oh yeah that liability waiver also covers the 3rd party software that is embedded in GW2. So if some 3rd party engine like Umbra occlusion or havok caused some liability issues, NCsoft and it's subsidiaries and parents can't be held liable. --Lania User Lania Elderfire pinkribbon.jpg19:14, 04 May 2012 (UTC)

Can I transfer a Guild Wars character to Guild Wars 2?[edit]

FAQ errors and account linking[edit]

Hi everyone, we just noticed that the question "Can I transfer a Guild Wars character to Guild Wars 2?" of this FAQ has a wrong answer, due to the fact that it's a loose interpretation of an out-dated post based on a very old article (see reference [8]). We just announced more details about this feature (in the following blogpost article), so would you people like to modify the answer accordingly? If not, I don't get an answer fairly soon I'll probably rephrase this to clear up the confusion this has created in the community. Thanks! --Stephane Lo Presti talk 19:27, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

I added the relevant changes in information but could use help with doing the references as I am not too familiar with doing them on wiki's thanks 108.13.9.32 20:09, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
OK .. I think I have this straight, but let me lay this out anyway. I have multiple accounts, and I am the SOLE user on those accounts (I'm probably not alone in this). According to my understanding of the Character Name Transfer, any names from account 'a' in GW1 will be reserved for account 'a' in GW2, and similarly with other accounts, so in order to reserve a name from account 'b', I will have to have a second (etc) account in GW2. Is that a fair summarization? Thanks! Algonda 20:56, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
That's correct - you can only link 1 GW account to 1 GW2 account. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 21:08, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Related Question that that blog post doesn't answer... What about GW1 linked to GW2 accounts and HoM? The HoM faq on the official wiki says our character names are all reserved and not first come first get like in the article. "After launch day (and after we work through support tickets filed on launch day), we’ll free up the millions of unclaimed names for new Guild Wars 2 players to use." Yet having an active GW1 linked to GW2 account/HoM should not have those names freed up that you're not using right away. Please clarify! Imaginos 21:26, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Today's blog post supersedes all previous information about name reservation. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 21:32, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
Where is the HoM FAQ on the wiki? The one on our website does not mention anything of that sort. Thanks. --Stephane Lo Presti talk 21:36, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
I figured out what he was referring to: GW1:Hall of Monuments on the GW1 wiki. I added a link to the blog post with a small wording change - don't know how much more detail should be given there. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 22:01, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks very much for that Ishmael! And also TEF for modifying this FAQ ^^ --Stephane Lo Presti talk 22:03, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Players have actually been mislead by the previous version of the answer and commented in various places about this, pointing to the wiki, which is a tribute to how much these wikis are useful to and read by the community. And your (I mean all editors) quick reaction is a tribute to how great this wiki community is. ^^ --Stephane Lo Presti talk 22:15, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Done. Thanks for the heads-up. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:02, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
So let me get this straight. We support Anet for years, get a HoM and now we're not even guaranteed to be able to use all of our character names on release? ArenaNet isn't going to give everyone enough slots to use all of their character names on release, so we're just out of luck then? That's pretty crappy. Imaginos 10:32, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
The best questions were made by a friend of mine yesterday. If you haven't the game in the release for personal problems and make the character 3/6/9 months later. Does your character have the HoM? And if the name of his character he has another account for not having registered and he became the title of "God among mere mortals" What happens to that character and the title? Did you get the other person? Lasha 12:00, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
Accounts are linked 1 to 1. This linkage is for both HoM and name reservation. HoM rewards are not time-limited and will always be accessible to all characters on your GW2 account, regardless of their name. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 13:24, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
I must second Imaginos for some of my guild it was even the main reason to buy Eye of The North, the promise of the name reservation and now you throw that away, just like that. Furthermore it seems that I will now have to buy tons of new character slots and spend the whole day creating characters just to get my names back. I have now 22 different once and OK. some of them are just storage, but even then I want 13 names reserved. That is in the case we can indeed have 1 word names now, and I am quick enough to get 3 of my wanted single word names. BIG bad Bull
Ishmael: in the wiki >> "Players who achieve the Guild Wars title God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals for completing titles are able to wear that title in Guild Wars 2. This title is not transferred through the Hall of Monuments" if the title is for PJ if i can't use this pj i have a problem Lasha 14:26, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
That is outdated information and needs to be corrected. Where exactly did you see it? (NOTE TO EVERYONE: The wikis are not able to magically update everything immediately, an actual person has to go and update the page manually.) —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 14:57, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

Wow I Havent read this before, but this all tells me we have some really dull fellow players who cant understand what they read. First Arenanet had a reservation of all names on account that had been linked to HoM. They slightly changed it and then put a time limit on it. Arenanet is being generous to us long term players of GW1. I have never been able to carry over any of my character names to another game from the same company. So What we have 4 Days to create 5+ characters with the names of our choosing. and this being taken in Role Playing story line, unless your player is a god or immortal how did it servive past 250 yrs? seriously its a simple concept that most of you have all blown out of porportions. There is only 1 account that can be linked to a GW2 account and only those names can possibly be used in the 3 days before the launch and the day of the launch. After that time period is up all names will be accessable by anyone. But if you created a unique name its likely it will still be around in 3/6/9 months since you are probably the only one that can spell it. But for all you people that use common character names....try to be a bit more original with your names, like when people name their character after their favorite anime character like no one else in this entire world thinks to use that same name? I personally give my self a single word label and use that same word in all my character names so people can identify me no matter what character I play. After 6 years of playing as a human with my human names, now im going to play as different races with race appropiate names. Now if you still dont understand how this character names transfer works...then just make all new names like any new game you would get problem solved. -173.65.64.101 18:03, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Reservation without HoM[edit]

Question!: I thought previously you need to have HOM to even reserve a name because without it your accounts won't be considered linked? is that still true? thanks60.241.172.128 07:04, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

afaik links are done just when you register your GW2 code: it is asked if you have a GW account and info for linking it. Arimicci 07:10, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
I see in How do I reserve the character names I'm using in Guild Wars for use in Guild Wars 2?, isn't best change "3) Choose the name for ..." to "3) Use the same name for ..." ? Same meant, but I think better clear. Arimicci 07:10, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
oh ok thanks. the thing is, there are a few names i want for guildwars2 that are currently taken in guildwars1. having checked those names on the HOM calculator it seems some of those people do not have EoTN .'. their accounts are not linked. was wondering what will happen to that.60.241.172.128 22:50, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
Re: HoM being required. The blog update doesn't say anything about requiring the HoM to reserve a name; ANet never posted any details about what would be required, so I don't think this is a change so much as an end to the rampant speculation that occurred in the absence of anything official.
Re: name in-use in GW1. This question is indirectly answered in the FAQ. Assuming that the HoM is not required, then there currently is no way to know if the account has logged in since January 1 (the only existing requirement to reserving a name). There's also no way to determine if the person has linked their GW1 and GW2 accounts (which they would only have to do if they were interested in participating in BWEs).
That leaves you with only one possibility: hope. Logon to the fully released game as soon as you are able.
It might also be worth creating an official suggestion requesting that ANet provide a tool that allows people to check whether a name has been reserved. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:03, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

Name Reservation Suggestion[edit]

I understand the reasoning behind freeing up names and database space for the names that aren’t being used. However, there are many people (such as myself) who have played GW1 since its release and have since purchased many extra character slots. GW2 only has 5 character slots, so most of my names I can’t reserve right away without buying more slots in GW2. Most people I know that also play are in the same boat. I won’t want to use all of my character names, but many I will (and yes, that is more than 5).

What I am suggesting is this: let players have the option somewhere of reserving the names we want to use in the future in GW2 without having to buy x amount of extra character slots on the first day of release. This will allow people who currently play GW and are playing (and pre-purchased) GW2 to not feel like we were let down on this name reservation issue. It will also free up the space on names for people who no longer play GW and have no plans on playing GW2. - Foxysheri 13:30, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

As much as I agree with your suggestion enthousiasm; suggestions posted to GW2W can not be used by ArenaNet due to copyright issues. The feedback space on GWW (which uses your GW2W log-in details (GWW and GW2W are linked)) can be used to propose suggestions ArenaNet can legally use. - Infinite - talk 15:18, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, I added the suggestion on there. Foxysheri 16:01, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

Merchandise?[edit]

Will they release profession styled shirts like they did for the first game? I own the rangers and monks shirts and they're really nice. I suppose they help point out GW players when your out on the town.

If it's not in the FAQ, we probably simply don't know. However, you can make suggestions here or ask on Twitter or Facebook. --EeUser Ee sig.png 09:10, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

GW2 Servers[edit]

Playing in China[edit]

Will Guild War 2 work in China? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.49.2.188 (talk).

Yes, though there will not be localized servers for China on release. - Infinite - talk 12:41, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Private PvP Servers[edit]

There are some articles around saying that Anet is considering allowing players to create their own PvP servers. If they do allow this, will the servers be running on the players computers (something similar to WoW emulators) or will the servers belong to Anet and players will customize them? -anon

Character Creation/ Guild Wars 2[edit]

moved from Help:Ask a wiki question

I am wondering...will you be able to start two character's in the beginning of the game and buy additional character slots? How many character's will you be able to have total?99.177.254.78 16:49, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Please read the massively huge header text at Help:Ask a wiki question again.
At this point the number of character slots we will receive has not been finalized or announced, but you will be able to purchase additional character slots. --zeeZUser ZeeZ Sig.png (talk) 16:55, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Hero's Band Aquisition[edit]

Does anyone know how to get your Hero's Band bonus through the in game mail system? It's not realy explained anywhere and for that matter neigher is the "in game mail system itself. All I know is that you have to be logged in to use it per the only game fact that I've found on it. The wiki about the hero's band also has no info telling you how to aquire it.Rayne Of Flames 20:53, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

That won't be available at all until the game is live, so there's no way for us to find out until then - unless Anet makes a blog post or something about it. Oh, and we have an article about the Mail system. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 20:59, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads up on the Hero's Band now I can stop wasting all kinds of time trying to find something thats not there yet lol. Rayne Of Flames 22:00, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

Broadband vs dial-up[edit]

" The game itself only uses ~12kb/s up and down stream combined, making it technically playable on faster Dial-Up connections. They say it requires broadband because of the MS (Millisecond) Lag that both Dial-up and DSL creates (Averages between 700ms-1,200ms), which makes the game unplayable due to action and delay. Broadband has only ~20ms on average."

I removed the above quote from the FAQ, because it's not germane to what players need to know: you cannot realistically enjoy the game using dial-up regardless of whether the game will technically run. For all intents and purposes, this is equivalent to dial-up being too slow (i.e. you need at least DSL speeds), but rather than have the community argue about the jargon, let's just say that you must use DSL or cable and that dial-up isn't supported. (People who want to know the background can find it above.) – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 03:27, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

How many accounts can I get![edit]

I have two brothers and we're really into mmorpg's right now and we were wondering if when we pre-purchase Guild Wars 2 we will be able to download it on 3 separate computers and each have separate accounts. Would love a reply =D -Joel

You can download the required files to as many computers as you like. However, you can only play from one computer at a time. (It's also technically against the user-agreement, although I know of plenty of couples that share accounts — as long as you otherwise play fairly, ANet isn't going to care much.)
So, if all three want to play at the same time during BWE/3, you need to buy three accounts or sign up for one of the various beta-key giveaways (be sure it's a reputable site; plenty of scammers out there). I think Curse is hosting one shortly. Once the game is out, you will definitely need three accounts to play together. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 02:11, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Curse's beta keys for Guild Wars 2 ran out fast. I actually got my beta key off of YouTube! And guess what, it actually worked

Home World/Server Selection[edit]

During the last BWE (2) I noticed that once a world/server became full I could no longer select that server as my home. Will this remain the same at launch? Zearan 08:22, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Dungeon gating / birthdays[edit]

Will there be a limit to how many times you can do a dungeon per week/day?

Will the birthday system from Guild Wars 1 be implemented into Guild Wars 2? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 141.134.82.24 (talk • contribs) at 13:43, 13 July 2012 (UTC).

No, and unknown. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 16:18, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

What difference does the choice of home world make to me?[edit]

The most common question I see being asked by folks who have played BWEs or just purchased the game involve deciding which home world to choose. I think we should provide some sort of guidance in the FAQ, but I'm not sure we have all the necessary facts. I think we can answer the following questions:

"How does my choice of home world affect my game?"

"Your home world affects which team you play for during World vs World and which Power of the Mists bonuses you enjoy."

"What if my friends choose a different server?"

"You can use the guesting system to join them for PvE (but not for WvW)."

"All my friends are in Europe, should I choose their EU server so I do not have to quest, or should I stick with a US server to reduce lag?"

"Your choice of server should have little or no effect on the amount of lag you see." (nb: this is probably the most controversial answer)

"My guild has members from three continents. Should we choose the same home world? or each choose a local one?"

"You should choose the same world if you think you might want to join each other for WvW, but otherwise it should not matter: the guild will earn the same amount of influence and you can guest to the same server for PvE. "

Are these accurate answers? Are there other frequently-asked guild-related questions that are missing from the FAQ?

I'm hesitant to "endorse" something unofficial on this page, but there's a number of players that have declared that Tarnished Coast and Petrified Forest will be the unofficial roleplaying servers. In the future we can probably provide population numbers for the servers. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 20:59, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

Can't log in[edit]

I can't log in. I have been playing all weekend and now I keep getting the following "Either there is no current Guild Wars2 event or this account is not authorized to participate in one. If you believe an event is running that you should have access to, please contact Customer Suoppor. For additional support, please visit http://support.guildwars2.com." That don't help cause there is no LIVE feed to help a paying customer. I bought pre purchase and the digatal upgrade to delux edition. Hackers/Selling of game cash/leveling[edit]

1)How do we report those hackers? 2)Is selling of game cash or leveling by players legal?

If not, how do we report them?
Yes, it is definitely illegal. Right click on the character name in chat and select "Report". The best reason to select is probably for "Spamming", since this will trigger a review of their chat history, which will reveal what they were advertising. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 22:45, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

But the ones that advertise selling of game cash and leveling uses the mail function in the game and I'm unable to report them..

~They have added the ability to report users for Selling Gold under the report list.
~You are now able to report users using the mailing system to advertise gold selling.

Different Races[edit]

Hi!

My friends and I are going to play togather, but we all want different races. My question is that does race selection modify NPCs' reactions? For example will be there a case in which a NPC is hostile for me, but friendly for my friends?

Thank you all your help!

Race affects the dialogue of some NPCs, in the same way that personality does. It does not affect whether an NPC is hostile or friendly (red vs. green name). —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:52, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

Character Changes..[edit]

I have been asked my several of my guild members if there are plans to introduce some sort of character changes in game.. eg. hair, face, height.. even race. SImilar to the ncp in Great Temple in GW1.

How to changing your right corner map[edit]

how do you changing your map at the right side corner back to the bottom.. because my map it on the top right side corner?? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.255.107.188 (talk • contribs) at 22:07, 27 October 2012 (UTC).

There's a resize triangle in one of the corners of the map. Grab that with your mouse and drag it all the way down or up. It might look like nothing happens, but when the mouse pointer goes past half the screen, the map will snap to the other corner. Same with chat and party panel, which you can swap the same way. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 21:28, 27 October 2012 (PDT)
If you hover on the "toolbar" that pops up on the right side of the minimap, your cursor turns into a hand icon. Dragging slightly will make white borders appear indicating the possible positions for the minimap, drag it further to place it in the other position. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 21:32, 27 October 2012 (PDT)

== Hallo GW Team,
