I searched for "edge of destiny" and this page didn't show up. Someone should redirect it here, if possible, no? :) Plus, we already know it's coming out in December. Destiny's Edge would be the same as Edge of Destiny, technically. Some languages don't have possessive terms, so if one were translate the guild's name directly from another language to English it would turn out to be "Edge of Destiny" and not "Destiny's Edge." Essentially, the book is not a rewording of the guild's name, but rather the guild's name itself. -- Konig/talk 20:37, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

I mistyped - what I meant by "possessive term" I actually meant possessive forms of nouns - to be precise, I mean such as "Destiny's Edge" - the 's isn't in most other languages (that I've seen) - same goes for contractions as well. I think the point that the OP was trying to make was that the title of the book is a cheesy play on words for the group. I was saying that the book is actually sharing the name of the group - thus not cheesy - if that's what the OP meant. I agree with Konig. :) The languages I've studied all have "___ of ___" (the languages all being very similar, though: Portuguese, Italian, and Spanish). From what I can just see online, it seems other languages that do this instead of "'s" are: Afrikaans, Catalan, Galician, Haitian Creole, and Swahili. The rest seem to use "'s". So I guess "'s" is much more common, but not exclusive. :) --Amannelle 21:27, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Well... Russian (and other Slavic languages) have possessive inflections in general but you wont be using them for something like "Destiny's Edge" as proper translation will still be literally "[The] Edge [of] destiny", you might as well change it so it translates better. Release Date

After checking a couple of book stores' sites it seems that this book will be released on December 28th since all of the sites I checked all said it would be released on the 28th, it would seem to me to not be a place holder but the actual release date.--Elemental Phantom 18:11, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

As I said I don't think any date has been confirmed - the link on this wiki which is supposed to be a reference for a december release is laughable. So I think we're being a bit too forward with that assumption. The best I've seen recently is one of Ravious' blogs said that Jeff was saying book in either December or January during the cons. Never said anactual date was confirmed. I would suggest putting that link as a reference, and rewording the sentence to read that it was planned to release in December or January. I was in Barnes and Noble today looking for something else and I saw a Guild Wars book. At first I assumed it was Ghosts of Ascalon but quickly noticed that the title was not Ghosts of Ascalon. Great Book!

I'm almost finish reading this book ... will read that last chapters tonight ... and all I can say is that, like Ghost's of Ascalon, this is a very good book. It is also one of the funniest books I have ever read. Adventure, drama, and comedy all in one! That's all I'm going to say about it. Read it! You'll be glad it did. Well I'm glad you enjoyed it, but as for myself I can't say the same. I suppose being a bookworm has made me picky, but there were a lot of flaws in this book, it bothered me enough that I had to stop without even getting a fourth of the way through. Ghosts of Ascalon was decently-written and a good read, but Edge of Destiny seemed like something a middle schooler would write. The characters speak and act like pre-teens hitting puberty, not to mention they're unrealistic, none-too-bright, and underdeveloped. Nor do they follow the lore or many of the Races' cultural aspects. That said, the author probably had a short time period in which to write, and was limited in what details he was allowed to give (because the makers wanted to save it for the game). Also, Guild Wars needs to cater to their 12-15 age group, or those who don't read too much, so in the end it's understandable. Long-winded speech I suppose, but there you have it XD. --(UTC)Drasi

Category

We have a "Ghosts of Ascalon" category but we don't have an "Edge of Destiny" category; and that's mostly because, while we have many characters categorized as "Ghosts of Ascalon characters", we don't have anyone tagged as a "Edge of Destiny character". What would you people like to do? The great majority of Edge of Destiny characters are extremely likely to appear as NPCs in Guild Wars 2, so only a few creatures (mostly those who die in the book : P) would be Edge of Destiny only characters. Do you people want to leave things as they are, or to create the Edge of Destiny categories and tag the characters and locations as necessary? Erasculio 11:03, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

I actually hadn't done such yet due to the discussion regarding the GoA locations - some didn't like that and a lot of the locations in EoD are pre-created and those that are not... have yet to be made. EoD also has a lot more named characters than GoA, so I wasn't sure how specific to go (e.g., do we add Knut Frostbear? What about "Foamfist"? Those two captains that don't have a name yet?) Basically - where do we want to draw the line with character and location making. I was going to bring this discussion up once I figured existing articles got the total expansion (we also need to go and expand the GoA articles now that we have the spoiler system settled). -- Konig/talk 21:13, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

I'm a bit in doubt about what we should do with those categories. I would really like to avoid the excessive categorization found at GW1W (example), so it troubles me to see that a few characters are already within a lot of categories. IMO, the Edge of Destiny categories (as well as the Ghosts of Ascalon ones) would be more useful in denoting characters and locations who do not appear in the game, so users would know where those characters come from and why they have never seen them. Basically, I think we should either add someone to the NPC category or to one of the book categories, not to both; so while Logan would be only at the NPC category, Dylan would probably be only at the Edge of Destiny characters category. Sometimes excessive categories is helpful (your example being my example), since they're related to so many things. I don't think that the EoD/GoA character categories should be limited to non-game characters - the former will have few not in the game (those who won't will be those who died most likely). So unless we redesign the purpose of categories, I don't think over-categorizing is an issue so long as they aren't unnecessary. An alternative to the categories for both character and locations would be a "List of <book> characters/locations" articles and those being categorized into the main category of the book. But I personally prefer the category, as it is easier to get from one book character to another than via the list. -- Konig/talk 22:47, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Personally I find such a note pointless, as no one ever said that the books would be released based on chronological order. Not to mention that by reading GoA, you'd know that DE is broken up already, and by reading EoD, you'd know that was the forming of the group. Those who wouldn't know this are either complete idiots and a note wouldn't be much help to them, or haven't read one of the two books and thus the note wouldn't really matter to them. -- Konig/talk 20:21, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

I know this discussion is a few days old, but I'd just like to clarify that this blog posting told us that the second novel would take place before the first, chronologically.
