Talk:Defending Shaemoor
How it'll work[edit]
since its a tutorial area will it be like a persistant instance with new characters coming in as other ones are already completing it? will there be "sections" of the tutorial where some characters will be rescueing people then moving on the next "section" which would be protecting the garrison. because it seems like people might miss out on parts if its just one non-stop event since they would come in late. Victor6267 18:15, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- I was curious about this too, so I asked a dev at PAX. He said that basically, the garrison doors at the end close once the boss fight begins, and then opens up afterwards, letting another bunch of players do the boss fight. --★KOKUOU★ 20:26, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- What I'm wondering is if we will be able to return to this area after completing the tutorial. Hmm. I'd better explore every inch of Shaemoor before leaving. --Emelend 20:55, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- Probably because you end up saving the village so it wouldnt just dissapear, and people in town will probably remember what you did too. Victor6267 21:11, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, Shaemoor is the name of the small village outside Divinity's Reach, and is the location where you must complete tasks before continuing the human storyline "On the Mend." It will not have centaurs and won't be in the same instance as the opening human tutorial area, but the persistent location of Shaemoor is available to visit at any time. --★KOKUOU★ 23:54, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- So basically pre-Searing lasts like 10 minutes. --Kyoshi (Talk) 00:33, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
- Yea but at least this tutorial is better than faction's and nightfall's, and Pre was for lore reasons too not just tutorial, wonder how other races tutorials are Victor6267 00:51, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'm really curious how the Sylvari's "training" will be done. I mean, it's all done through knowledge of the Dream, right? Bet it'll be creepy voices in your character's head. And any tutorial is better than Nightfall's. --Kyoshi (Talk) 02:10, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
- Maybe itll actually take place IN the dream :O, Victor6267 02:43, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
- Simulation training, fantasy style? How cliche. --Kyoshi (Talk) 07:45, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, not cliche-- I've never seen it done before. The closest thing to it I've seen was Assassin's creed, which was awesome. It'd be really cool if it had a sort of painterly feel even within the dream. :D Or what if we get to "experience" the memories of other Sylvari-- the first to "learn" these things? --Amannelle 19:06, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Pointing out the ? for street rat[edit]
I haven't found the word from the street rat background located at:
- I'm done living hand-to-mouth. There's a war on our doorstep, and I refuse to be ? by it.
If anyone should find the street rat cinematic in English, go get that word! Eternal fame awaits! ge4ce 15:21, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
- My best bet is "and I refuse to be swallowed/consumed by it.", though I am searching for confirmation. - Infinite - talk 16:06, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
Various Formattings[edit]
So, Ge4ce, Infinite and I have been working on a way to design this (and all other event/quest pages.) (This can be seen here.)
In addition to that, I was wondering if we should move the "Human Starting 'Cinematic'" to its own page. Aqua (T|C) 03:01, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
- I wouldn't say I have been working on it, rather than pointing out the colour was to close to the weapon colour in the past. It's only sensible to credit Ge4ce and yourself. :)
- As for cinematics, the way GWW documented them, it was nearly impossible to browse to those articles, so if they get their own pages, clearly link to them (prefereably as a "Followed by" step). - Infinite - talk 14:24, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
- Cough*cough* I was also working on that page... agreed with Infi. - Lucian 18:37, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
[edit]
For the Dialogue part i'm not sure if it belongs here, but instead of writing them down as Option 1/ Option 2shouldn't we supstitute them with the actual icons from dialogue choices? Espacially keeping in mind that there will be multiple choices, like charm, dginified and ferocious, later on. Also, taking the example from this page Defending Shaemoor shouldn't the follow up conversation from picking option 1 be directly below option 1? At least thats the way dialogues were writen on GWW. That would make it way easier to follow your intended way of the dialogue. As example:
Corporal Beirne: There's too many of them! This whole place is a war zone, and there aren't enough soldiers to protect the villagers.
- Speech bubble: I'm here to help. Just tell me what you need.
- Corporal Beirne: Outstanding. Sergeant Walters is coordinating our efforts at the inn. Send villagers there. After that, if you still feel like volunteering, talk to Walters. She'll put you to work.
- Cross: Thanks. I'll start with the villagers.
- Cross: I'll help, but I can do more good on my own. Good luck, soldier.
Moving on to the nav-boxes. The intended use was to have follow up and previous Event and Personal Story Quest come up, but isnt it kind of counter productiv to for the navigation to link to another page where u need to choose which one of the different upcoming quests/ events u want to do. As for the Events i know that we dont much about it, but after watching the full PAX Event Panel footage (heres the lnk to part one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mjiRKkHwXk ) i can estimate that events will also give u multiple choices to continue from the completed/ failed one. So going back to the example on Defending Shaemoor page, wouldn't it be better for the nav-box to look something like this:
Human storyline | |
---|---|
Defending Shaemoor » | On the Mend (Commoner) On the Mend (Noble) On the Mend (Street Rat) |
That way it would be more of a quicklink nav-box then the current version is. In addition to it, i think it should be at the top of the page too. --Snakes Shadow 17:58, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
villagers sent to safety[edit]
In the current demo from Gamescom and PAX it seems to me that this task is no more part of the tutorial. From what I've seen, Corporal Beirne sends you direct to Sergeant Walters in the inn. So should it be removed? Balwin 07:11, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
- It seems to depend on dialogue options? See dialogue of Corporal Beirne in dialogue section. Mediggo 07:50, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hm. Didn't know about this. If it is indeed optional, there should be a mention of it. -Alarielle- 13:52, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hey, made a few minor, pedantic changes to the description (changed Players that to Players who) and removed a few unnecessary words, no biggie. If it looks like optional objectives are going to be fairly standard to Events/Quests/Instances, perhaps we should propose a standardized grouping where required and optional objectives have their own headings. Repeatable?[edit]
Can new character created Tutorial Instance areas like Fury of the Dead. Defending Shaemoor. and The Great Hunt. be revisited or visited by other charcters? or is it like Pre-Searing Ascalon, once you hit the cutscene you can never ever go back? Rudhraighe 15:22, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
[edit]
Hello Now that we are after first BWE I would like to point something out: So far we have 'Nav-Boxes' in each race specific tutorial (Defending Shaemoor, the Great Hunt, Fury of the Dead) Each of it grows bigger and bigger, and will be huge even if we just stop at lvl 20.
As it seams this is how it works after tutorial: 1. 5 quests specific to one of your character creation choice (ie Nobility) 2. 4 quests specific to another of your character creation choice (ie Unknown Parents) 3. 2 additional quests that you wont be able to complete since you will have to choose one of two ways to get things done
Thats 11 questsx3 for each combination gives 33 quests to be put in a Nav-Box before level 20 for each race
Not to mention weird crossing of quests
Anyway I guess we should figure out what to do with this, either completely remove those nav-boxes at the bottom of tutorials (and other quest pages) or maybe reinvent them somehow?
I will post this in each toturial discusion, but I sugest that we keep discussing at Personal storyline Gorribal 16:57, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
- In this video you have the "streets" version, but there is one word I can't guess ("supply ...?"). If anyone wants to try : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJ3rQ-KUeW0. 213.166.219.125 08:46, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
Completing the Human storyline[edit]
Well, for the next BWE I'm going to create human street rat/missed oportunity character to fill in the gaps. Hope someone will take commoner(Arson at the Hospital)/unknown parents (???) for other gaps. Gorribal 21:53, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
Removal Of Karma[edit]
They seem to have removed the ability to earn Karma from helping the villagers. So you no longer get until you go and help the garrison. 188.28.112.227 02:39, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
