What I suggest is that we get to create our sidekick like our character, instead of picking them up like heroes in gw Farwind 23:55, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

I like it[edit]
In Soviet Russia, hero brings you! Srsly, though, this sounds like an odd system. I'm not concerned over being restricted to one companion, or the customization of said companion. What I am concerned over is how they will 'buff' the player character when the player does not have a companion with them. They could buff them ten ways from Tuesday, but it is not going to be easy to keep that type of system balanced. Arena.Net has disappointed more than a couple people with their skills/profession balancing in the past, and will continue to do that. This system will, in all likelihood, be tweaked a lot, and will recieve a lot of complaints from the GW2 players. - Ara ~ A R A ~ 02:12, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Own Characters as Heroes[edit]
I really liked Heroes. They were an amazing upgrade from henchies, but I think there is still room for improvement. The customization of Heroes allowing such things as Runes and Weapon changes were great ideas, but it needed to be taken a step further: what would be amazing is if you could take your OWN other characters along with you as Heroes. Any progress you made with them in your party would actually be recorded in their own progress, and you wouldn't be able to use them if they hadn't gotten to that point in the campaign/story. Also, if you could customize the AI, that would be great too, though it may be asking too much. xD --LexiconWolf 01:43, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- I would just like to see an improvement of moving/managing skill usage. Moving heroes from place to place is a huge pain in GW, but sometimes a necessary action. I can't really think of a better way other than flagging though. I fail... — Pony 03:46, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Companion = Familiar?[edit]
Everytime I think about the companion system, I imagine a little being of magic revolving around my character, possibly morphing, or taking different forms based on my actions, such as taking on a fiery or red hue or sprouting spikes when I begin attacking. But for all I know, it's going to be just some dude that our character went to highschool with...Vidal 15:44, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, magically summoning a partner would be cool, and would make sense for the 'you are weaker in this state because you duplicate yourself' or something like that, but it is most likely going to be some hobo you pick up on the street, haha. Mat Cauthorn, The Botanist 17:46, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, after seeing the trailer, the concept of you 'creating' your familliar somehow seems to make sense. In the real-game footage part, there's a scene where what I'm assuming is an asuran character being followed by what appears to be a custom-made golem. - The only thing against your plausibility is that charr at the end of the trailer was confirmed to be a remaining part of the shaman caste and it only seemed in game that only shamans could summon a charr effigy and also in that interview where the person said that was a shaman he said they were looking for a new way to regain power so I don't think that any shaman who know how to create a charr effigy want to show how to create one or summon one for the charr who overthrew them. - Giant Nuker 14:34, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

different from a hero? might be a good move[edit]
As much power, variety and fun a hero provided, it also turned the game into a more 1-2 player affair IMO. Don't get me wrong, some things you couldn't get a group for, or only get a few people - *bam* instant solution. It certainly helped take care of Monk/Healer shortage issues as well, but maybe went too far in changing the game.
I like the idea of a companion where instead of 'pick from and make other automated toons like you' you get a more 'racially relevant' choices. Edited for ease of consumption CKaz 16:44, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
I GOT IT[edit]
Companion = Summoning stone
- One ally, not three heroes
- Summoning stones were added to GW1 later because when they were develloping GW2 they thought up summoning stones and wanted players to meet them to test the idea.
- So they probably will be like this: Asura can summon a Golem, Human a dwarf, Sylvari a druid, Norn a Kodan and Charr a Siege Devourer.
- They also said something about wanting to reward player for not taking Companions with them, so you will probably be less powerfull like Shadow Form with 33% less damage dealing (No not enter Godmode, just 33% less damage).
- These allies' skills and attributes might be costumizable like heroes are in GW1: e.g. you can create a damage dealing summon if you are a healer or you can create a healer if you are a damage dealer yourself (and ofcourse you can balance it out).
Please give me some feedback about this idea and feel free to add something more about this. 80.60.80.108 22:03, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
- I like the idea, but i doubt that the human companion will be a dwarf, due to them nearly being extinct. :) --BloodStain 19:29, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
- Well, if you look at the Teaser Trailer you will see a stone dwarf fighting alongside the humans agisnt the undead. It does mean that there are still some Stone Dwarfs on the surface. 80.60.80.108 23:35, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
- Exactly, some. And i doubt theres enough for every human warrior on tyria :) --BloodStain 01:19, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
- True ;D, just an idea though ^^. They could also have an Avatar of the Gods, like, if youre a healer you can summon an Avatar of Balthazar to fight for you and if youre a figther you can summon an avatar of Swayna to heal :P. But they also said that the Gods have less influence in GW2, so they might not be able to become an avatr anymore because of the corruption of the dragons ;l. Don't really know what Humans could have because they dont really have some kind of thing that is directly linked to their race (like the Asura have with Golems) and seen in GWEN or the trailers. 80.60.80.108 14:52, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- ^Lol Swayna ^^, they should make an userbox with: 'This user makes a lot of typos' :P. 80.60.80.108 14:54, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
- Is Swayna the god of spirit way then? Tidas 18:49, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Race Oriented or Class Oriented?[edit]
I wondering if Companions will be class related or racial related--Knighthonor 02:25, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
- I don't think we have an official word on this. The only companion we know of at this point is a wolf owned by Eir. I'm not sure if the golems are considered asuras' companions or not.-- Shew 02:52, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
- Shew hit the nail on the head; I was about to say that there is a possibility of this due to the known existence of golems, but it depends on what role "companions" play, as opposed to, say, some sort of "pet" (to be a less-interactive assistant) or rather a "henchman" (to be a more-interactive assistant). Overall it depends solely on what system of companions they implement. (Meaning: We don't know yet lol) :) --Amannelle 03:03, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

- Well this certainly sucks. I happen to like my heros. Guess pets will have to do and i hope each profession has access to at least one. Justice 04:13, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
- Eh, if this game is soloable and/or easily played with random people, I'd MUCH prefer that over retarded AI heroes/henchmen. I'm glad I have them in GW (I spent most of my time H/Hing), but if the game could be built from the ground up (and GW2 is), doing away with the need for them seems like a very good thing to me. Let's hope that they still manage to get NPCs in the game with an actual personality. Some of the Nightfall/EoTN heroes have at least a semblanec of a personality, but Prophecies failed HORRIBLY at this. Remember that cutscene in the Southern Shiverpeaks where Saidra died and it was supposed to be a dramatic moment, but no one actually cares because no one could remember who saidra actually was? Hope they avoid that. -- NilePenguin 04:36, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
- I cared ;_;. The only problem I can see with doing away with the companion is if you disconnect mid fight, you're gone. Survivor is gonna be fun :I --hexal 07:50, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Can't Believe It's Been Scrapped![edit]
This was the one single thing that I was most looking forward to! The whole motto/ethos for GW1 was "You Never Fight Alone" and by making it a Solo or Party system they absolutly changed the whole GW gameplay system. I know that actual moto was for the Sunspears introduced in Night Fall, the last campaign released but it summed up all the GW1 campaigns in one sentence.
I'm so amazingly dissapointed, Its going to be like Aion in terms of Solo/Party gameplay, just you on your lonesome or you with a party. And with the loss of second professions, theres not even a chance of useing a ranger as secondary to get a pet. Man, Im so gutted!!! Titan Crow 19:00 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- Well, if your entire opinion on a game was based on a single feature, then it really shouldn't be hard for you to find another game with that single feature. :) --Amannelle 19:48, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- In no way was my "entire opinion on a game was based on a single feature" but it was absolutly my most eagerly anticipated feture. In GW1 I have all the pets with the excetpion of one and have leveled them all to all possible evolutions. All my Characters have pets and all their Heroes have pets. Also, all my Characters have the all Asura Summon skills and Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support skill and a shed load of summoning stones. So, as you can see, I love the idea of Companions. For me It was easily one of my favourite features of GW1. Even when I was in full Player parties, I could still have an "Animal Companion".
- It Just seems to me that their dropping one of the major aspects of the game. If you think back to Prophecies, we started with Henchmen and Animal Companions, then in Factions, more pet and more pet skills and more new henchmen. Then when Night Fall came out, even more pets, pet skills and an even greater varitety of new henchmen and.... Heroes! Finaly, Eye ot the North brought even more. It's like the Companion system was one of those things they were always seeking to improve and make more of an integral part of the whole Guild Wars game experiance and now their just going to drop it. Also, with Heores, it was another way to costomise ourselves or our parties, with a reasonable part or the game dedicated to getting new Heroes and improving their armor. Its like Pats and Companions became the Signature of Guild Wars.
- In short, I just think that we're losing one of Guild Wars' most distinguishing aspects. Titan Crow 21:25 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- I admit I was disappointed too. Being able to lead and micromanage a party of faithful subordinates is one of the things I find fun about GW1. But, two things: 1) in some respects, I think it will ultimately allow them to focus more strongly on the actual characters themselves, rather than having to devote resources to those NPCs, and - perhaps more optimistically - 2) it's entirely possible that there may be racial skills available for each race which will allow them to summon some form of NPC assistance. Arshay Duskbrow 21:43, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- In short, I just think that we're losing one of Guild Wars' most distinguishing aspects. Titan Crow 21:25 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- The second option would be a reasonable solution I suppose. I just SO hope they give us some kind of Companion. Titan Crow 21:55 30 May 2010 (UTC)
It was a bit dissapointing to find out about it being scrapped at first, made me wonder how the companionship monument will come into play now. but when you think about it when you potentially have everyone taking along a hero itd make for a hell of a lot of people in the persistant areas , so can see how that could cause problems to ArthasShadowsong 22:00, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- Oooh I see what you mean. :) Yeah, I love the idea of companions too, but like Arthas said, it'd be REALLY hard with most of the world being persistent now. However, if they made them customizable, it'd still make for a unique environment (instead of clones everywhere) and could really be fun too. ^^ --Amannelle 22:03, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- The Conpanion system would have had no bearing on that, fella. As far as I know, the Companion system was optional. If you didn't want to bring your Companion with you, then you were buffed to compensate. You would be perfectly able to sneak about the place like a crazy stab-happy-ninja-assassin while the rest of us run about like furry-creature-lovin duos. Titan Crow 22:23 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- It's a good thing, imo. There are going to be at least 2 professions with pets anyways, and there are several summon skills confirmed (an anonymous one for charr and Hounds of Balthazar for humans, maybe others). -~=Ϛρѧякγ (τѧιк) 01:10, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

- Yea, I saw that Hounds of Balthazar, it's not quite the Companion they mentioned but if they're capable of remaining summoned (and not just for like 5 mins with a half an hour recharge time) then thats quite a good move. I also watched the "Races of Tyria" video a few times and noticed that the Norn has a Wolf following (It's in one of the Wallpapers too). If the Companion system was dropped because each race will have a Summon or Pet/Fimilier of some kind then I suppose thats understanderable. But... Like I said, it would have to have a lifetime longer than the Summoning skill's recharge time. Maybe having Pets instead of the Companion systen would be a decent compromise. - Kinda. But I don't think that there'll be a skill that would allow the charming of a number of wild creatures but it might work like the skill "Charm Animal" used to in PvP, where if equipped you simply got a Wolf. Although, I have only seen the Wolf with the Norn in the "Races of Tyria" video (and wallpaper) and have not yet seen any other mention to it, so it's quite possible that it was part of the Companion systen and since has been scrapped.
