Merge[edit]
is it an idea to merge this page and Chat command to make the article that has all chat related information? Sjacie 11:13, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
Team vs. Map Channels in WvWvW[edit]
There is confusion over the team and map channels in WvWvW. Does map mean everyone in, let's say, the Jade Quarry Borderlands can read your chat? Or does map mean your home server? Does team chat go to everyone on your home server while in the Jade Quarry Borderlands? Also, the colors for the two channels are too close: one is bright red and one a slightly faded red. --Sheanna 01:18, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
- The enemy teams can never read your chat. Map chat is essentially team chat with a different name and color. Map chat was introduced later, and eventually the ability to read enemy messages was removed from all channels, so at least for WvW one of them is a bit redundant. --zeeZ (talk) 09:21, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
Re-order tabs[edit]
Is it possible to re-order the tabs? Only I accidentally deleted the 'Main' tab and have remade it but now it sits on the rightmost position. Can I somehow move it to the leftmost position without deleting all the other tabs and recreating them all? Thanks. --Combatter 22:52, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
Player Channels Color column[edit]
Would be a great addition. --Alad 02:57, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
Screenshot message[edit]
"Game messages ... (e.g. screenshot saved)" - If only those disappeared when un-checking Game Messages.. Karuro 19:42, 4 February 2014 (UTC)
Terrible terminology[edit]
I would like to see a decent check of the used terms. afaik someone just made some up AND is mixing them up with ingame terms. e.g. the category "game-messages" would indicate that using the option to turn off "game messages" ingame would turn off all of these, while in reality it only turns off "status messages". So in my opinion, the names should be switched here82.169.87.197 09:51, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
Feedback 2017/05/16[edit]
On the Chat Panel, it is possible to get the message "Your message was suppressed due to excessive messaging." displayed in your chat window after sending as little as 2 (two) messages. This happens to me frequently in large groups when others are chatting very rapidly. 174.56.97.53 00:06, 17 May 2017 (UTC)
- This is already outlined under the Notes section of the article, how frequent is "too frequent" has never been explicitly detailed by ArenaNet. --Wolfie (talk|contribs) 11:38, 17 May 2017 (UTC)
Feedback 2018/06/03[edit]
Maybe worth putting somewhere that whispers sent to an account that is on character select do not go through. Ones sent while other acc is on a loading screen do though. --Sutgon (talk) 16:37, 3 June 2018 (UTC)
- A worthy note. Added, thanks for the feedback! —Ventriloquist 21:49, 4 June 2018 (UTC)
Feedback 2019/11/10 - What is covered by a chat scoped to "map"?[edit]
Several options (/yell, /map, etc.) are described as being delivered to a scope of "map", but that is neither defined nor linked to. Searching for "map" on the wiki gives ambiguous results. Providing a note defining "map" like the range of "nearby" is defined for "/say" would be helpful to new players. Is it the same as "zone"? If so, renaming it to Zone would be helpful, and if not explaining how they differ would be helpful. 68.14.26.136 12:20, 10 November 2019 (UTC)
- Please feel free to reword it - /map delivers to the entire Zone. I think /say goes out to compass range but I'm not sure about that (anyone want to shout at me whilst I run away?). -Chieftain Alex 15:01, 10 November 2019 (UTC)
Text colours[edit]

Thoughts on using a swatch of colour similar to how we do it for dye infoboxes, versus the current colored-text? -Chieftain Alex 10:24, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
- Both? Text illustrates how it looks, swatch makes it more distinct. —Kvothe (talk) 16:33, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
- Changed my mind, went for a cell background matching the ingame UI, and properly colour sampled all of the various chat channels. -Chieftain Alex 00:17, 24 January 2021 (UTC)

In a few lines of chat in a story instance the NPC text showed as a purple heading with bright white text on one line, then darker sea green heading with gray message text on the next. Also later on the player character scripted text also showed as purple heading with bright white text. I will look for a few more examples and figure out a way to describe when each type is used. Black/dark grey text message[edit]
Anyone have any clue what it means when someones name in chat is colored black/dark grey (same color as the text of npcs speaking in say chat)? It happened in Wizard's Tower just now, with one empty line and another with the links to the locations of Pact Supply Network Agents. VectorSomething (talk) 19:10, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
- do you mean like Emote#Custom_emotes or can you provide a screenshot? jowjowjow (talk) 19:29, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
Feedback 2024/01/15[edit]
"Show In-world Bubbles — Toggles character chat dialogue bubbles appearing overhead." This does NOT turn off chat bubbles from world NPCs which interfere with targeting.
Feedback 2024/03/11[edit]
The "game messages" section should be far more in-depth, there's a lot of filters in there and it's not immediately clear what each filter exactly shows. --ItVictor (talk) 08:27, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
