Welcome to the Guild Wars 2 wiki, etc. User A F K When Needed Signature Icon.png A F K When Needed 12:03, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

G'day AFK, hehe, *I'VE* been the one who as been AFK, not touched a wiki for about the last year and a half (been a very unwell wolfie, on the mend now). Slowly getting in GW2, and in time hope can get back to my wiki-maintaining self again :D So, sorry for the very delayed reply. --Wolfie User Wolfie sig.jpg (talk|contribs) 07:00, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
Time for an update, still not entirely well and don't get on the internet enough to be actively involved in helping out on the wiki. Would definitely like to get involved in Guild Wars 2 Wiki:Projects/Cartography, but don't foresee my circumstances changing any time soon. However, will keep everyone posted best I can. --Wolfie User Wolfie sig.jpg (talk|contribs) 01:22, 21 February 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip about page deletion. I'll keep that in mind for next time, sorry for the trouble! Daft inquisitor (talk) 17:54, 16 June 2015 (UTC)

Hey, no trouble at all, happy to have helped. :) --Wolfie User Wolfie sig.jpg (talk|contribs) 23:02, 16 June 2015 (UTC)

All that clean up[edit]

Very much appreciated! Some of those pages have needed TLC for years. G R E E N E R 08:09, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

Yeah, thanks. Am working through my list of all the mats used in guild hall upgrades, and as is the nature of these sorts of projects, what started out as simply checking each mat was listed, it soon became apparent there was not a lot of consistency in the heading usage etc., so the project grew :)
Am stuck on a couple of things:
  • Vendors, specifically vendors that use an item for currency (under Acquisition, we have "=== Sold by ==="/{{vendor list}} ), however can't find a clear idea of what to do when it's a vendor that uses the item? For example Memory of Battle & Obsidian Shard, shouldn't the Vendor main heading really be under the "Used in" heading?
  • Wondering if there might not be some benefit to creating a format guideline pertaining to items, so we spell out exactly how these types of articles should be laid out?
Have any thoughts on either of these? --Wolfie User Wolfie sig.jpg (talk|contribs) 02:08, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
Hmmm... Here's what I do in these cases: "Vent!... Hey, Vent! Someone asking about formatting consistency!"
I'm sure he'll be over here in a bit. That aside, what if we went for something like this:
== Used in ==
=== Vendors ===
{{vendor table|currency = Memory of Battle }}
{{recipe list by discipline}}
While I admit the verb "used in" doesn't quite fit with vendors, the spirit is there. G R E E N E R 04:03, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
I felt a lost soul summon me.
So, formatting - for vendors that use an item for currency use the {{vendor table|currency = currency name}}, with the 'vendors' headlines, like Greener said above. For your plain ol' vendors, just use {{vendor list}} (with 'sold by' as the level 3 headlines under 'acquisition').
As for the formatting consistency - currently, most of the wiki splits 'vendors' from 'used in', and, once again, like Greener said, it feels a bit awkward. I'm slightly leaning towards putting vendors under used in, just to avoid having two different headlines for usage.
Also, I might write up a formatting guide for those over the weekend. —Ventriloquist 10:04, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
Am thinking the crafting disciplines list, then vendors followed by the GH upgrades forms a more logical structure; along the lines of being crafting materials, is more important to feature the crafting recipes they can be used in, ahead of vending and alternative used, such as donating for GH etc. Plus thinking if standardise on "currency={{PAGENAME}}", should be more robust in the event of an item being renamed, so format proposing would be...
== Used in ==
{{recipe list by discipline}}
=== Vendors ===
{{vendor table|currency={{PAGENAME}}}}
=== Guild upgrades ===
{{guild upgrade list}}
How's that sit with everyone? --Wolfie User Wolfie sig.jpg (talk|contribs) 09:43, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
Also, what order of headings under Acquisition?
Gathered from
Dropped by
Contained in
Sold by
Recipes
(a) Order of easiest/simplest method, (b) Alphabetical order, or (c) Something else, how should these be ordered? --Wolfie User Wolfie sig.jpg (talk|contribs) 09:50, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
I'd prefer putting recipe list>guild upgrades>vendors, since guild upgrades visually look similar to the recipe list template.
As for the order of headings, don't believe it's ever been discussed, but the way I format it is based on the visual nature of the elements:
  1. Gathered from - plain text should be first, since it doesn't use icons, making it less noticeable
  2. Dropped by - in most cases it is a drop down table, which doesn't take much space
  3. Sold by - visually similar to the dropped by table, doesn't use icons so it's still less noticeable than the last two templates
  4. Contained in - icons and text arranged in columns, especially on pages that have over 30-40 containers
  5. Recipe(s) - visually the largest template, should be placed first to avoid breaking readability; also, use singular if it's only one recipe and plural if it's more than one

Bit late, but I created a formatting guide for items here. —Ventriloquist 09:39, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
