Maybe when players[edit]

Maybe when players signed up to do the survey on the GW2 page on Facebook, they sent an email to some witha download link. My only idea of how players gain beta access.. OutlawJoe 15:46, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

doubtful. they wouldn't limit testers to just facebook fans. the company they hired to do the survey was a commercial marketing company. the survey was most likely to collect data for a gw2 commercial. --Moto Saxon 15:54, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
Agreed, facebook would be a poor representation of the gamers IMO. Venom20 User Venom20-icon-0602-sm-black.png 15:57, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
if (gw.account@gmail.com > 11 months && gw.account@gmail.com == active) {

They find magic pixie dust in a random bag and throw it in the air. when it lands it will display who they will notify... though I wish they would tell us :( I wanna BetaOcren 17:50, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Players[edit]

Where is it stated that players are allowed in the latest beta test? It is clearly stated on ArenaNets blog that it is PRESS only. Thought I would ask it first before editing.Dilum2444 19:47, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

The line "joined by hundreds of invited players and press" is a direct quote from the link mentioned in the following reference (here), which happens to be the ArenaNet blog. Erasculio 19:53, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
I read the wrong blog post. Never mind; was under the impression that the beta event was only open to selected press. Maybe the blog simply refers to the fact that people from ArenaNet will massively participate in this beta.
If that's the case, than the quote from the blog is going to be misleading to other readers.Dilum2444 20:00, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Beta Weekend Events[edit]

Martin's post states "We will do Beta Weekend Events", with the words capitalized. Which isn't much of a surprise, since the GW1 events were also kept with capitalized names (and that's how their article on GW1 is capitalized as well). While it's nice to not have more capitalization than necessary, having less isn't nice, either. Erasculio 23:56, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

I don't think it's necessary to capitalise it just because Martin did. It doesn't seem like something that needs capitalising - it's a general term regarding the, well, beta weekend events. pling User Pling sig.png 00:56, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
Is the name of special events capitalized in English? That's a question, I don't know. Erasculio 01:06, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
Depends what you mean by special event, but I think yes, mostly. But is this a "special event"? I don't think that it is. It's a series of beta events that take place over weekends. (I'm not sure I want to get into yet another capitalisation debate... ><) pling User Pling sig.png 17:31, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

Requirements[edit]

Does anybody know or want to guess what the minimum hardware one should be running if they expect to be chosen? My thanks in advance! Sardaukar User Sardaukar sig.png 04:29, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

They want to test on a wide variety of set ups and specs, they are not looking for you to pass a minimum. You just submit and wait. - Giant Nuker 04:54, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
Right. I've seen a lot of game play on YouTube and am wondering what they're running. Thought someone here might have an idea. Sardaukar User Sardaukar sig.png 06:54, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
Well, a lot of the YouTube people have really high-end computers...but minimum specs are on the FAQ. I think it's 2 GB RAM, <300 MB of graphics, and 25 GB of HDD space. 75.147.56.74 13:05, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

FAQ[edit]

Should we transcript all (or most) of the information from the FAQ to this article? Erasculio 14:42, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

Link is good enough imo. Sardaukar User Sardaukar sig.png 15:45, 26 February 2012 (UTC)

Splitting closed betas[edit]

December, February and March's betas were in fact closed betas and not part of the BWEs starting in April. Worth splitting off? --Eerie Moss 12:55, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

Yes, they are separate types of beta. - Infinite - talk 13:40, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
The previous betas are referred to as "Beta Events," whereas the BWEs are specifically referred to as such. They are simply not the same and thus should be split. - Infinite - talk 13:44, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
It seems odd to me to have a Closed beta page and a Beta weekend event page. While I agree with splitting them, they still seem close enough to fit under a single Beta page and have a Closed Beta section and a Beta weekend event section. They are both beta tests and there isn't much information that is going to be put up under a specific test date as evidence by CBT1 and CBT3 on the Closed beta page. Also, the signing up for beta still carries over into the BWEs, it is just not a sure fire way to gain access to the BWE like pre-purchasing would be. As far as we know atm, the BWEs are the same as the Closed beta that just have an easier/more-sure way of getting in than hoping to be picked.
Also, there is another closed beta (maybe this weekend) to do a final stress test before the first BWE. User Mattsta Sig1.jpgUser Mattsta Sig2.jpg 17:08, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
I've consolidated them into beta but nobody seems to have noticed. Proceed or revert? --Eerie Moss 06:39, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

Stress Test Weekend[edit]

In the closed beta page should we mention the stress test weekend that is currently going on? I don't know that much about the stress test but @GuildWars2 has mentioned it a number of times on their Twitter page. -- Natalie Black User Natalie Black sig.jpg

It is essentially useless and would only provide bait for people to talk about it. I say it is useless because no one can talk about it due to the NDA. Venom20 User Venom20-icon-0602-sm-black.png 23:14, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

with this not being behind nda[edit]

there will be a lot of new information for the wiki to document is there any information that we want to make sure to grab? would it be useful to make a list of stuff that we want to focus on checking?-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 23:28, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

I think we should initially focus on the basics; character creation, UI + tooltips, skills and traits, NPCs and zones, etc. and mostly just enjoy our time next to that. - Infinite - talk 23:53, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
I was thinking of starting a list to list specific things that need to be found out/checked, like the remaining combos. A list of very specific things that can just be checked then striked out after it is checked would be nice to have. A single list would be nice since we would probably get through it fast and enjoy the rest of our time like Infinite said. Also, I really wanna see if my Dynamic Event Reward theory is correct. :) This page seems as good as any if we do make a list, just make a section and don't sign it and let anyone add to it. Then have people sign next to what they cross after checking it in game. User Mattsta Sig1.jpgUser Mattsta Sig2.jpg 03:58, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
I would not know where to start but if you have a list in mind go ahead and post it because i know i would find it useful to go thew and say hey lets check all this information, and see if we have the correct information on the page.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 05:12, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
User skills are probably pretty much down. Except for Thief stealth skills, I guess. Maybe the unlisted durations of certain things could be found out. There's probably a lot of NPCs that aren't documented yet. Figuring out a damage formula would be nice. There's probably a lot we can learn about events, and a lot of events that aren't documented yet. Probably a lot of cross-profession combos that haven't been discovered. We should record the exact limits of the event, such as which areas are closed, what items can't be bought, etc. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 05:23, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
In the other direction, this is a also good opportunity to do a 'framework check' of the wiki in documenting the game. In other words, it's just a suggestion to keep an eye out on the greater system and design side. For example: Are there any groupings or attributes or qualities that are systematic in the game? Are they effectively documented here? Are they provided for in our templates? How might things be more efficiently presented or looked for?
I'm personally interested in what might make for 'good documentation' for regions/areas/places as I feel that these pages could use some structure instead of being untidy lists of information. Redshift 10:18, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
One of the recent interviews mentioned how they have rebalanced traits a bit since we last saw them. It may be worth checking during the beta weekend. Erasculio 11:16, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
with this beta I will be looking at game play and the enviroment, to make sure thats all working, and how they handle it. and any breaks in it. but I am pretty sure we can transpose things from the beta blog onto here since we aren't under nda Ocren 20:33, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

Beta final event[edit]

As the article says there have been castle lords. Do you have any videos or screens to show that? 134.93.248.25 14:19, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

in game announcement[edit]

This should have been in game announcements like in gw1 so we know about them (I was in game and didn't found out): "Players were granted 2,000 Gem (although payment was not required during the event), as well as free world transfers. Guesting on other worlds was unavailable for this event. This beta had a finale event "The Great Critter Hunt" in Wayfarer Foothills which focused on fighting overpowered animals such as racoons, rats, pigs, white bunnies, and black moas to gain norn glory. Some servers also saw an invasion of giant legendary castle lords. " --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.137.12.71 (talk).

Maybe it's about time you get to social networking on Facebook, Twitter, or official forums. :p The amount of gems granted were known well before start and conclusion of the event. I think finale was announced in-game, too. I'm also pretty sure in-game login announcements will be available in release. However, if you wish to make a game suggestion (as I assume you are), you should post to the official forums instead, not here on wiki talk. :) Mediggo 09:10, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
The official forums just got reset and only have a section for Monday's stress test now, so that is currently not a valid vehicle for general feedback. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 12:47, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
The finale was announced in-game starting at least an hour before it happened (the first anyone started mentioning it was maybe a few hours before that). However, I generally agree that ANet is pretty inconsistent about how they communicate: sometimes they rely on social networking, sometimes they rely on login announcements, sometimes they use their official forums, sometimes they use their official website, sometimes they post on guru, sometimes they announce stuff via personal feedback pages.
But that's a criticism of ANet's communication methodology; it has (almost) nothing to do with what we post on this article. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:21, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
