Minister Jimin
Minister Jimin was the first Minister of Security once the Ministry of Security succeeded the corrupt Ministry of Flame in Cantha. He soon turned out to be belligerent and supported Minister Yeongi's image of a "pure Cantha", fighting against the naga to reclaim their land for New Kaineng City and killing tengu who were prepared to make peace with humans. Empress Haebaragi ultimately placed Jimin on probation following the disbanding of the Celestial Ministry, which motivated Yeongi and his supporters in the Ministry of Purity to oppose the empress's rule via violent means in an attempt to preserve their prestigious positions during her governmental reforms.
Biography[edit]
Jimin began his career as a dutiful Canthan officer. The Zhaitan Disaster caught the Empire of the Dragon by surprise, drowning most of Old Kaineng and killing countless people in 1729 CC (1219 AE). An old recycling factory remained on the border of Old Kaineng which Canthan forces retook from the Risen in the same year. Jimin wanted to use it to build weapons.[1] Rather than restore the Undercity once they had rescued the few who had survived the flooding, Jimin wants to seal it off instead due to all the Risen pouring out from the north.[2]
Minister Zal of the Ministry of Flame and Jimin managed to breach Raisu Palace while searching for survivors after Emperor Bitgaram's crowning in 1730 CC (1220 AE). Inside they found Bitgaram's predecessor Emperor Kyobok and many other members of the Imperial Family dead, presumably killed by the Risen which had overrun the palace after the flood. After confirming the bodies in the throne room, the excavation group did not dare go any farther inside when they heard inhuman sounds coming from within. Jimin was shaken to his core upon his arrival back at the recycling facility.[3]
After Zal was arrested for corruption in 1730 CC (1220 AE),[4][5] Emperor Bitgaram appointed Jimin as the head of the Ministry of Security which succeeded the Ministry of Flame in the Canthan government. As the new Minister of Security, Jimin developed an acute sense of self-importance and felt that his word rivaled even that of the emperor. As efforts to build New Kaineng City continued south of Drowned Kaineng, the excavation team encountered a naga nest. Rather than leave them be, Jimin ordered his standing army to take the land anyway. According to Minister Doh Taelin who disagreed with the Ministry of Security's actions, Jimin might have fancied it the site of his new ministry headquarters which would land in the dead center of the new city even if meant violently displacing the naga.[5]
Emperor Bitgaram's health began weakening in 1737 CC (1227 AE) so he traveled to the royal family's estate in Shing Jea Island and left his daughter, Princess Haebaragi, to lead the city building efforts instead. The naga continued fighting against the humans but Jimin remained adamant that the land belonged to humans, showing no empathy even after losing his old home in the Zhaitan Disaster. Haebaragi, supporting Minister Doh's views, pushed Jimin to ease up on the naga as the latter fled to the west.[6]
When Haebaragi was crowned Cantha's first leading empress in 1743 CC (1233 AE), her first order was to make peace with a small tengu village just south of the ministry headquarters. However, Jimin did not obey; he killed the tengu ambassador on the spot, claiming loyalty to Minister Yeongi's and the Ministry of Purity's image of a "pure Cantha." Haebaragi was able to call off the attack, giving the rest of the tengu villagers enough time to flee to the Echovald Forest.[7] Haebaragi ultimately placed Jimin on probation in 1747 CC (1237 AE) following the disbanding of the Celestial Ministry, which motivated Yeongi and his supporters in the Ministry of Purity to oppose the empress's rule via violent means in an attempt to preserve their prestigious positions during her governmental reforms.[8] Jimin's fate after Haebaragi's victory over the Ministry of Purity at Zen Daijun remains unknown.
