Category: Guild Wars 2 Wiki
Why is this a sub-category of itself? Kind of... humorous, to be honest. Though I suppose I should ask: Should it be categorized within itself, which produces an endless category tree? -- Konig/talk 05:14, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
- I think that was done so it wouldn't be listed in Special:UncategorizedCategories, and also because the equivalent GWW categories are like that. I'm not too fussed about it myself - I can see the silliness of it, but there's some kind of advantage too. Whatever we do with it, we should have the same for Category:Guild Wars 2 (I think someone removed the self-categorisation from that). -- pling 15:06, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
- I think the Guild Wars 2 category was changed shortly after I made this page. Anyways, it just seemed silly so I was wondering if it should be that way. And I see no reason why we shouldn't have it uncategorized, if anything the two categories talked about thus far should be uncategorized, if any category is. But that's just me. -- Konig/talk 17:51, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
- Feel free to change it. -- pling 18:51, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

moving pages
I noticed that I can move pages on the GW2W, but I can't on the GWW (I wasn't planning on moving any...I was just looking because I thought I remembered not being able to). When the GW2W starts getting a lot of activity, are regular users going to lose the ability to move pages?-- Shew 20:40, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
- As far as I can remember, the only limit(s) on moving on GWW is that you have to be registered for a certain number of days and/or with a certain number of edits. I think the only limit here is that you need to be registered, so it's a lot freer. In any case, you should be able to move pages there; are you sure the page wasn't protected or something?
- The limit on GWW was made harsher because of vandalism problems, so we probably won't import those limits here unless we get the same problems. -- pling 20:48, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
- I'm going to a lot of random pages, and I can't move any of them. Maybe I just haven't reached the amount of edits on that wiki, lol.-- Shew 20:52, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
- You definitely have - the edit requirement isn't high.
- And I forgot something - only a certain number of pages can be moved within a certain amount of time. I've forgotten what the exact limits are, but there's a discussion about it.. somewhere. I'll try and look for it... -- pling 20:55, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

Hello Pling.
Hi Pling. There's a link to wanted pages from the Main page, was wandering why some of the wanted pages are previously deleted pages? Are they "wanted pages" or "unwanted pages"? Pumpkin pie 16:44, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
- Special:WantedPages automatically lists non-existent pages which have been linked somewhere. For example, if I linked to the non-existent page "Poo", that would automatically be listed on WantedPages (it would appear as a red link, so it's sometimes simply referred to as a "red-link"). WantedPages is not a very good guide to see which articles need creating - links can be red for a number of reasons. Context is required to know whether it should actually be created, so check the article where the red-link is and see how it's used.
- If a page has been deleted before and you're not sure whether to create it, check the reason given, and see the talk page for information. -- pling 17:02, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you Pling. Much appreciated for the information. Pumpkin pie 17:14, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

- It isn't possible to redirect to somewhere off-wiki. It'd be potentially dangerous, for a start. -- pling 21:48, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
- I'd recommend not doing this - link= should generally only be used to link to the wiki. -- pling 21:51, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
- k; thanks anyways, Unendingfear. Why shouldn't I link to another site, though? Is it because users don't expect to leave the wiki?-- Shew 21:54, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
- It isn't as obvious that you're leaving the wiki when you don't have the external arrow thing, and a little more wariness is generally useful before clicking an external link. Also, I don't particularly like the link parameter, but that's just my own opinion. So if the parameter is used, I would prefer it stayed within the wiki at the very least. -- pling 22:57, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

Just Thought
You Know all those Projects we did within the GW1W?, lets bring the same projects over here, including some we didnt get round to (Skill History is a good example, because it then being at the start of the game, we could keep track more easily) so how about it? (i mean when the time comes...) --Neil2250 , The Zoologist 16:04, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
- Just copying the projects won't help at all. Projects should (only) be born, when there are people interested in a particular project. It might be a good idea however adding links to non-existant, but relevant projects on the project page to give people a good idea about which projects might be interesting if they don't have something to work on. poke | talk 16:43, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
- A project needs context, and we don't really have that context at the moment. When areas of the wiki need organised collaboration to get sorted, and when we actually have the information (i.e. Guild Wars 2), then we can make the relevant project pages. They might be different to the ones on GWW - different targets/methods, plus different users - so it probably won't be worth creating them (or even a placeholder) now. I do agree that there are some projects which could be started from the "beginning", but we're not at that point yet. -- pling 17:02, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

Projects...
Hey, I had this idea about establishing various projects now, so that we don't have different groups doing the same project. I ran it by Neil and he said I should run it by you. I know its really early, but I was thinking thats its probably better to establish projects now than when beta hits. Just thought I would run it by you and ask for ideas. Aquadrizzt 03:54, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
- I agree, there are possible projects to do (even if it is just simple things like formatting and working the lore in articles to be the best possible way), so a project page should be made. -- Konig/talk 08:53, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Table of Contents
Hey Pling, do you know why the ToC on my talk page is not centered within the expandable table, yet the ones on my archive pages are (e.g. here)? Also, is it possible to create a custom ToC? Thanks, Shew ♠♠♠ 04:25, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
- you can make a custom TOC in the sense you can customise it's location and font, I'm not to sure about appearance though (never tried). you do it by:
<div <!-- code that alters it such as "style" attributes --> > __TOC__ </div>
- you can either put that directly on your page, or you could make a sub page and use it as a template. ~ PheNaxKian talk 12:12, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
Not to question your authority or anything
but was that really necessary? It truly wasn't that problematic. --hnzdvn 18:04, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
- A look at recentchanges should show it's problematic, as well as individual contribution lists. I've commented on Guild Wars 2 Wiki talk:Community portal#Spam.
- By the way, you're always welcome to question my actions as sysop, especially on GW2W where the userbase is small (and the amount of sysops/bureaucrats is less), and the role of sysop isn't as yet politically defined. pling 18:12, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

- Pling, may I enquire as to (if you know - if it's even decided yet) if this wiki is a democracy or meritocracy? It's a random question of no great importance. I'd like to know, but if the information isn't readily available please don't go rooting for it.

- "Neutral"? You called everyone there horribly biased. xD That is far from neutral. --Amannelle 19:07, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
- Difficult question. I vaguely recall a discussion about how the wiki could/should be classified in the months following the wiki's creation all those years ago, but I don't think it came to anything. We could be a technocracy/meritocracy, since sysops are generally the ones to deal with administrative issues because they actually have the tools and the ability to use them. Then again, we could be a democracy since every decision can ultimately come down to community consensus; also, bureaucrats were elected based on votes, and sysops were appointed based on a mixture of votes, consensus, and bureaucratic decision. Other systems raised in that discussion were the ideas of a dictatorship or oligarchy (my preferred option). It's not a clear situation, even on GWW. pling 20:05, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
- Wow. :O That is quite a thorough process! So when GW2Wiki was first created, were the sysops and bureaucrats decided by GW1Wiki? :D Yay history lessons ^^ --Amannelle 20:22, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
- If I recall (looking through old discussions and logs), GW2W administrators were grandfathered over by ArenaNet. --hnzdvn 20:25, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
- @Amannelle: No I did not. I said consensus (not those making it) was biased because every one of you were already invested in the issue. Thus the consensus does not accurately reflect the thoughts of the community at large; merely the consensus of those involved.
- @Pling: I can tell you spent some time on that message, for which I thank you. A F K When Needed 22:04, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

Infinite ban
Does infinite mean truly infinite (this IP will never be able to edit the Wiki again) or 'infinite until chosen otherwise'? xD I'm not questioning the ban, just,... Semantics, I guess. I'm curious by nature. --Naoroji 20:38, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- All blocks can be overturned or shortened, so it's never truly "infinite" - "indefinite" would probably be more accurate. pling 20:40, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- Why not use infinite ban for vandalism? I mean, I highly doubt someone who posts pornography in place of a popular article is someone who will also want to join us later. o.o --Amannelle 20:46, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- K, thanks for the info, Pling. --Naoroji 21:08, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- I agree, most likely not infinite. Venom20 21:09, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- Registered accounts that do stuff like that usually are infinitely blocked if it's clear they're bots or something; IPs aren't, because they can be dynamic and used by different people. pling 21:16, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

- Matt, I don't hate you or this wiki. :( I rather like you and the wiki. It's just Igor is a harmless cute little troll, that's quite far from the kind I usually am around, so it's both comforting and amusing to have somebody like him around. --Unending ♥ fear 02:34, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
- I know you are good friends with him, and I know he isn't a bad person, exactly... but rather has tendencies to cause problems. I personally enjoy monitoring Recent changes, and having him here would make the job so much harder. I mean, WE have all spammed before, but not intentionally, as Igor has. :( There are other... factors... in why I'd rather he not be let back, but the summary is I feel the wiki is better off without him. Lol I guess that's something we both have in common- neither I nor Igor are very beneficial to the wiki. However, I am not harmful to it either (or at least I hope I'm not!), which is something that can't be said about Igor, regardless of how cute he can be at times. ^^ --Amannelle 02:46, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
CleanUp question...
on, Wanted Pages, among the "most linked to" include KH's RPG and CC pages, am I allowed to go and remove the links so that we actually see what pages are actually needed? Aquadrizzt The Weapon Master 17:14, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
- Zzzz. that page name should be changed to "Most linked Red-links" people just mistake it for pages that want to be made...--Neil • 18:12, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
- Neil, im only trying to help the wiki, KHs (deleted) copy vios and theyre related links are making it hard to tell which pages are actually needed, and imagine how bad it is going to be when the game actually is released... Aquadrizzt The Weapon Master 18:33, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

- Depends where the links are, and what the thing being linked to is - context is important. I can't give a blanket statement of "yes, remove links" or "no, don't". WantedPages is not an accurate measure of which pages are wanted, as Neil says.
- The links to "Crowd Control" and "role playing game" are on talk pages and could be useful for people reading those discussions later on. Personally, I don't think they need removing, but I'm not going to complain if they are. pling 19:24, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

A question
Are IP users permitted to have userpages? --hnzdvn 20:03, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
- Good question. Was about to ask the same. --81.157.186.26 20:04, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
- You can have one, but unless your IP addy is 100% static, I wouldn't recommend it. Besides, it's so easy to make an account. --Lania 20:08, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
- Im almost sure that you have to register the IP adres as an actual account, otherwise you aren't allowed to have an userpage on that particulair name. If you make an userpage on any IP adres without you have registered it, it will be deleted because IP adresses are variable, can be used by multiple persons and thereby can also change. It can be I missed some points here, but I think I said the most things here. -- Cyan 20:10, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
- That's essentially right, although it isn't possible for a registered user account to have the exact same name as an IP - it'd have to be slightly different somehow (e.g. replace the periods with spaces). pling 21:27, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

- Hmm, it only obscures categories if horizontal resolution is lower than 1366 (which is mine), I guess. Pling, have you thought of getting a new screen? :P Also, seeing as how they're simply user categories; does it REALLY matter, Pling? I mean, on articles, sure. Categories should be visible. Redirect spam on RC
Hope you don't mind (I know; it's constructive), we're just trying to make the GW2Wiki more accessible for the casual user. I've received quite a lot of complaints from friends, fellow GW2Guru'ers and the like, that the wiki search engine doesn't work that well, isn't user-friendly because of the apparent difference between lower-case and upper-case, singular and plural, etc. So I started this as a kind of project on the GW2Guru. Are there,... Project pages available, or should I just make a page for it in my userspace? Or do you think it isn't necessary at all because it really isn't a 'project', but rather something logical? ;) Just asking for input. --Naoroji 21:32, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

- A discussion is going on at gw1:GWWT:RFTA#Search about installing an extension to make the search feature better - I think that would be a more effective solution (would anyone actually search for "Dan Dociu"? I doubt it :P). pling 22:15, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
Custom Skin Userpage
Hey. I want to make a userpage that obscures the entire Wiki interface and creates it's own. Don't stop here read on. It will however retain the same layout, every single link as well as search function and GW2W logo. It will also include an easy to follow link to default layout of my userpage. Can I do that? --Super Igor 00:54, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
- Please let him. Vald Sunday 00:57, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
- People use different resolutions, different browsers, different monitor sizes, different tools (think admin tabs), modified JS's, and modified CSS's. I don't think what you're describing will satisfy the majority of those common customisations, but you can try something out in a sandbox. I'm pretty sure you could spend the time doing something more useful instead, though. pling 01:51, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
- I think theres a way to make the toolboxes float above that skin. Anyway, I will fiddle around with it in my Sandbox maybe when I'm finished you can has a look and say if it's ok or not. I by most part enjoy this wiki cause of wikicode anyway while sticking to the theme of my favourite game. Ty for the reaply Plingz. :3 --Super Igor 11:10, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Redirects in search
Would it be possible to make it so redirects don't show up in the search, or at least ones that are created as a misspell? Or do they automatically phase out as time goes on and they don't get many visits? I'm asking because it seems a little messy and unprofessional, not having them but have them show up in the search bar.--Corsair@Yarrr 04:58, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
- I believe by default they don't? if they are for you though, when you do a search, make sure that "List redirects" is unchecked, then do the search again =). ~ PheNaxKian talk 10:07, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
- Redirects are like normal articles, so I don't think it's possible to keep them off the search tools without using the advanced options. There's a discussion at gw1:GWWT:RFTA about improving the search features, which would lessen the need for some of the silly redirects. pling 14:37, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
IP account redirects
Hey Pling, had a quick question for you. I noticed that Ariyen redirected this IPs talk page to her own and claimed it on the user page. I thought I recalled that there was a discussion on GWW about that not generally being allowed because no one can "claim" an IP as they can change from time to time. So, should this be allowed? --hnzdvn 04:35, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
- It's a stagnant Ip that's assigned by Att - has not been changed in over 3 years. Don't see a problem, unless changed then I can see a deletion. Ariyen 04:38, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
- Instead of redirecting the talk page to User talk:Ariyen and having the notice on the userpage, it would be better put the notice on User talk:72.148.31.114 - it's harder to get to IP userpages (links generally lead to contribs instead), so people are unlikely to see the notice on the userpage. If that's done, it should be fine; that's what the template was made for on GWW. pling 14:50, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
