Weapon Screenshots[edit]
Your screenshots are high quality and clear, good job! Shimpchip talk 14:32, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, I have a small problem with most of your images. The lighting is not neutral - there's a yellowish or whitish glow saturating the character. This is very obvious on e.g. File:Mithril Shield.jpg, where almost the entire shield is washed out. Were you standing right next to a torch or campfire or something? —Dr Ishmael 13:28, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
- I'm on the diving board in LA since I thought the blue sky had good contrast. There are some torches behind me and apparently I stood a little too close them on some of the shield pictures. Now I went somewhere else and updated some of my shield pictures to have less light in them. Tell me if that's what you're looking for, or you can just tell me a place to go that has the lighting you want. On a completely different topic, I was wondering if you noticed this discussion on Talk:Gallery_of_staves (on back or in hand). Meridin talk 07:45, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
- Those look better, thanks. —Dr Ishmael 15:50, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
heart event images[edit]
There's no point to uploading images of the heart event text. We already document that text in the article. —Dr Ishmael 15:36, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
- I thought it would be interesting to have the actual quest text, but I suppose it is rather unnecessary. It'll be easier without them anyways. Meridin talk 20:52, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
maps[edit]
Those maps are... not really helpful. They're cropped too close to give any sense of context - one would have to already know where in the zone the heart/vista is located in order to know how your mini-maps fit into the zone. Also, there is no annotation at all to indicate what the map is representing. Maps like this should at least show the surrounding area(s) in order to give some context to people who are unfamiliar with the zone. You could also add markers to the map to make it clear what you are showing with each - for hearts, draw a border around the heart's "active area"; for vistas, add a star to show where the path to the vista begins. (I'm not certain that the vista maps would be helpful even then, since they don't give any sense of vertical placement, and they don't show any jumping involved.) —Dr Ishmael 13:43, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
- I was trying to keep the files small, but I guess that just makes them harder to understand. I think I'll stop uploading Heart maps since I'm realizing that they aren't really that useful. As for the Vista maps, they were intended to complement the text directions and not be complete guides by themselves. For difficult Vistas, text and a map won't be enough and people will need a video. But for most Vistas, I think all people need is a quick glance at a map to show them the general path to follow and they'll figure out the details. To make these maps more useful, I'll have them show the entire path from the nearest waypoint (which I'll label). I'll also make the maps bigger and include nearby landmarks to make them easier to locate. See if you like how I updated the Lornar's Pass ones. (I included an extra picture for the Venison Pass Vista since one part really confused me, however I'm considering removing it since it's not really a 'map' like the others. Meridin talk 23:40, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
- There is some support to include images for the more difficult vistas, but most vistas are way to trivial to require images. Half the time we don't need images for the harder vistas, because they are part of jumping puzzle or Explorer achievement. There are absolutely no isolated vistas that would require a video.--Relyk ~ talk > 23:46, 11 January 2013 (UTC)
- I don't think it's about whether the maps are required or needed (difficulty is going to be different for everyone). It's about whether they're useful and can help people get to vistas faster and easier. Every single vista has a text walk-through even if it doesn't need it, so I thought it would be nice to have a map to complement each of their walk-throughs. Personally I'd rather look at a picture than read through a description, but if that's not how we want to do it I'll remove all my maps (once I figure out how to delete files). - Only sysops can delete files. GW2W:PP#Retention and deletion —Dr Ishmael 01:15, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
- Well that would explain why I couldn't figure it out; I am fairly new to wiki editing. I'm also pretty much done with map completion so I won't be adding many more vista maps (since you guys seem opposed to it anyways). Your welcome to remove what I've added so far if that's what you really want. Meridin talk 00:10, 15 January 2013 (UTC)
Skill challenge NPCs[edit]
...should use {{NPC infobox}}. I corrected Petil, Talooboo, and Flowing Ice. —Dr Ishmael 15:28, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
