Legendary images

Well thanks for telling me about the images in the wrong format. Even with 4 different guides I apparently missed the fact that I should have uploaded .jpg files. Anyway quite new to the whole wiki thing. How do I re-upload my images? Updating the existing ones does not seem to work. Should I just tag the old ones for deletion and upload new ones as .jpg? -Irukard

Don't worry, I'm pretty sure it took me a while to figure out the correct filetypes too. You guessed right: you'll need to upload the .jpgs as new files and tag the old ones for deletion. -Idris (talk) 15:37, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

Thanks that's reassuring. Honestly thought I would screw up the gifs. Not quite happy with the fact that https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Aurora_draw_animation.gif does not have an animated thumbnail. Is there an Article that describes what exactly the technical limitations are? If so I might be able to crop the gif a bit more and have an animated Thumbnail instead. I was playing with one of the very few gifs I've uploaded (File:Perfected Envoy armor (light) human female.gif) this morning, and found that if you embed the gif without specifying the size, then it is animated. To answer your question, I can't immediately find an explanation, but it looks like gifs are transmitted fullsize by the server and not scaled due to loss of quality (except the thumbnail). We could be cunning and upload two different files, one small animated thumbnail, and link to another larger image that would show when you click on the smaller one (gifs are weird, everything else resizes) -Chieftain Alex 19:37, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

Mhh the breakout out of the very beautiful gallery template doesn't seem to be worth the marginal improvement you get out of having the .gif be animated without clicking it. Idris already reverted it. The Thumbnail idea sounds pretty good. Having a animated preview of the .gif on the page seems pretty important to me. Mainly so the user has an additional hint that there is more to the image. I made a much smaller an shorter version of the .gif that could be used as a thumbnail. Use the sandbox or your own user page to test things. (If you don't want to put it on your main user page, you can create subpages, e.g.: User:Irukard/Sandbox). Even if it does animate as a thumbnail, we still might have to get cute to make this work; neither the gallery tag nor the infobox will let us post a thumbnail that links to a different image, as far as I'm aware. --Idris (talk) 05:13, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
