Logan was originally a scout-for-hire who would often work for trading caravans near Ebonhawke. This was his rebellion against what he saw as pressure from his older brother, Dylan Thackeray.
Along with Rytlock Brimstone and Caithe, who he became acquainted with after a fight with ogres, Logan traveled to the pirate city of Lion's Arch. Collectively known as the Edge of Steel, the three of them fought against other teams in the Lion's Arch arena. This was where Logan first met Queen Jennah and made a pledge to serve as her champion, being enthralled by her beauty. If ever Jennah was to find herself in danger, their magical bond would allow Jennah to call Logan to her aid.
he arena was also where Edge of Steel met the Dragonspawn's Destiny: Eir Stegalkin, Snaff and Zojja. Eir made a bet with Captain Magnus the Bloody Handed, the owner's of the gladiator arena. After Destiny fought and won against Logan and his friends, they became the Destiny's Edge. Although originally enemies (being human and charr), Logan and Rytlock became close friends and regarded each other as brothers; Logan gave Rytlock his most prized possession, a scarf from Queen Jennah, and Rytlock gave Logan a Blood Legion amulet that symbolically made him a part of Rytlock's warband. He also allowed Rytlock to continue wielding Sohothin, despite earlier attempting to win it back for the humans.
Logan and his friends accumulated victories over the Elder Dragons' champions, becoming legendary among humans, charr and norn in the process. During Destiny's Edge's attempt to fight the Elder Dragon Kralkatorrik in the Crystal Desert, Logan sensed Queen Jennah was in danger. He hurried to her defense in Ebonhawke and fought off the Ogre Revolt, leaving Destiny's Edge to carry out their plans without him. This decision came at a high cost, however, as Kralkatorrik survived.
After their failure, the group disbanded. Logan became a captain of the Seraph in Divinity's Reach, while Rytlock regretted befriending a human and served in the Black Citadel.
Through most of Edge of Destiny, Logan fights with a warhammer as his main weapon, complemented with blue magic auras that could be used both to defend and to heal. After the death of his brother, Dylan, Logan takes his sword as his own and abandons his hammer.
