FAQ
- Why Thief Runes?
- We need a lot of precision to crit cap, thief runes give +300 (~14.3% crit) as well as 10% damage from flanking (anywhere not in the front 90 degrees)
- There are other setups and reasons you would change runes but as explained next you would need to change gear to make them work. Check the Snowcrows guide page.
- Why do we want to cap crit?
- Much of our damage comes from Decapitate so we want to use that as much as possible. So long as we hit with it, the skill has no cooldown so the only limit is how fast we can generate a full bar of adrenaline. The trait Axe Mastery in Discipline gives us 2 extra adrenaline when we crit with an axe skill meaning we only need 3 hits to decapitate again.
- What crit chance should I hit?
- The build hits 68.1% without buffs and 100% with everything (banners + Spotter + Fury). If you're missing spotter Bowl of Curry Butternut Squash Soup can be used to replace it. If you're in exotic armor/weapons switching your helm to assassin will bring you to 100.05%. Many other options work, check using gw2skills and try to get close to 100% (hopefully without going over by too much).
- Example setups:
- When do I weapon swap?
- If do not need CC (like on golem) you should be running axe/nothing + nothing/axe so that you have axe/axe in both weapon sets and can swap weapons to trigger Versatile Rage and gain adrenaline.
- This lets you do one auto attack + swap to fill a bar instead of the second auto attack, gaining a small amount of DPS.
- If you do need CC you run maces and should only swap to them to CC.
- Use Head Butt, can be delayed if you need faster CC.
- Priority should be to use Tremor (mace 5), Pommel Bash (mace 3), and then Skull Grinder (F1) if you really need more but you can usually stop before that. Then swap back to Axes asap when done.
- While you're on mace/mace Crushing Blow can be used for more vulnerability and Counterblow is a block if needed.
- Note that using nothing/mace in addition to axe/axe is an option if you want a little more CC while still having decapitate and axe main hand. This means you'll still have Head Butt and Tremor and good damage, a good option for fractals.
- If do not need CC (like on golem) you should be running axe/nothing + nothing/axe so that you have axe/axe in both weapon sets and can swap weapons to trigger Versatile Rage and gain adrenaline.
- What DPS should I hit?
- Benchmark is 33.4k final number and 36.2-36.8k first number with full ascended and infusions. Infusions account for ~2% DPS, Food and utility account for ~7-9%, ascended weapons ~6%, trinkets ~4%, armor < 1%. A good idea is to try and hit above 80% benchmark starting out while you aim to get above 90% (aka 26.7k -> 30k)

- Easy spoterless swap - With spotter / without spotter - Able to switch between spotter and spotter-less setups by swapping assassin ring to berserker and impact sigil to accuracy. Needs one precise infusion to cap.
