Template talk:Reward
Ok I guess we can continue discusion here. Still can't see the reason for puting exp in every template even though you wont get exp reward ;p Got an idea for putting those profesion icons together? so that there wont be any unnecesery repetition. I mean something like "* = ". Also, how about collecting all the links to reward templates on one site (this?). Gorribal 08:26, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
- The original pages all stated "variable experience" before I replaced with this template. Is there a bonus XP reward for completing the missions or were the pages wrong? Mavrande 15:46, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
- As for grouping, once we see what the common groupings are we can set that up. Looks like can be a set and can be a set. I'm going to assume that is also. I set up a basic way to do it for those arrangements only. Allowing arbitrary arrangements is more complicated and may not be necessary. Mavrande 15:58, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
- Well in BWE2 you get xp for completing missions, but xp reward isn't mentioned on the reward screen(except for tutorial mission). As for grouping, its fine except for missions where you get weapon rewards (lvl 10 and 19 quests) - there needs to be a way to remove that grouping. Gorribal 09:04, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
Gold (or any coins for that matter) as reward?[edit]
As far as I'm aware the reward of the story missions don't contain any ingame money anymore, at least for the parts above level 3. I have several screenshots from the end of such story parts and there is no indication for me, that any money was given. So should we rework the template (and especially the sub templates) or did I just missed something here? Balwin 14:29, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, this template needs to be reworked. Experience and monetary rewards need to be optional. Voices From the Past is an example of having only profession-specific item rewards. -- ab.er.rant 14:06, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
No profession-specific rewards[edit]
There are quite a few quests where there are no profession-specific rewards. Is there a way (or could we add a way) to hide the profession icons if this is the case? -- osuracnaes (talk) 14:50, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
Current state of the reward template[edit]
I have the following problems with the reward template, but I have no clue how to change it: a) The headline All professions is only displayed when using "specific=y", but should always be shown, even if that parameter is not used. This leads to the strange case that you have no such headline, if you have only generic rewards for all professions. b) It seems no longer be able to create only one entry für every type of profession (soldier, adventurer, scholar), or at least not in the way the sample code shows. c) The template seems to create a big blanc spacing below it. It looks strange, when using it in a page. d) When using the parameter "specific=y" but then only input the "item" parameter and not using "xp" and "money", it creates a big blanc space between the headline "All professions" and the item. So maybe someone with more wiki coding knowledge can repair it. Balwin 08:25, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
- @Balwin, http://wiki.guildwars2.com/index.php?title=Template:Reward&oldid=360050 should have fixed most if not all of the above issues.
@Everyone, for now I've allowed class and profession to be used (profession has higher precedence) though I doubt class and profession are allowed to be used together. From the rewards I've seen, they are for either each class or each profession, not both -- that is, you can't have mesmer and elementalist get reward X but necromancers get reward Y. Lazy implementation at the moment, but {medium} and {r, en, t} should be impossible. —BryghtShadow 22:07, 14 September 2012 (UTC)- Yeah, looks good now. Thank you! Balwin 09:13, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
- Initially, I thought that rewards would be mostly based on class, but later quests (like not personal storyline) all have individual awards. The point of specific paramater was for rewards that didn't have specific rewards, where having the "All professions" header would be redundant. It shows it by default as there can be both generic and specific rewards. Having it only show if specific=n is incorrect. Bryght fixed the rest of the logic I didn't bother with--Relyk 00:09, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, looks good now. Thank you! Balwin 09:13, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
Rename/moving some of the sub-templates[edit]
Some of the reward templates for specific levels of the story line are not correctly named to the level of the mission it's used for. So is the Template:Reward/l62 used (and as far as I see correctly used) for the level 68 story line missions and the Template:Reward/l68 is used for the level 75 missions. So I suggest these templates should be moved and the pages using it should be updated. Any arguments against it? Balwin 10:25, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
- It looks as if everything past 60 just got created in sequential order, (I think) all by the same editor, with him not realizing the connection to mission level. Not that it's causing any problems, but we might as well fix them. I'll go ahead and get started. —Dr Ishmael 15:13, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
- Found a real problem: was being used on both 64 and 71 mission pages. I think it's actually documenting 64, so I left it where it is and edited the 71 missions to use the correct template name. Unfortunately, that template doesn't exist. —Dr Ishmael 15:23, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
Reward/l61isn't used anywhere. [edit] because it's a duplicate of 64, deleted. —Dr Ishmael 15:27, 19 January 2013 (UTC)- Thanks for doing all the work with the wrong templates. Couldn't convince me to start checking and moving the templates and updating all the story pages by myself :), because when you start this, you have to do it for all story mission pages. Multiples of items[edit]
Edit request: Can we modify this template so that it works with multiples of items so that we could use it for rewards in the living story. Anzenketh (talk) 19:34, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
- Parameters item1/2/3/4 are free-form wikitext, you can enter whatever you want. But it seems almost pointless to use this template anyway for simple lists. (Also, the XP is not variable for LS2 because you have to be level 80.) —Dr Ishmael 21:12, 17 July 2014 (UTC)
Race and Order[edit]
There's now rewards based on race and order chosen. The template does not account for that. MithTalk 22:33, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
Deletion requests[edit]
Hope I haven't over-stepped by requesting deletion of a few reward templates, but as far as I could see several of the L## templates had been replaced / superceded by <chaptername>/# style templates with the same content (presumably when the NPE came out), and I would imagine that such a naming style will be retained (over L##) when certain of the NPE changes are reverted soon for the personal story --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 09:08, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
Formatting for reward items linked from these templates[edit]
Each template in this series lists the reward items, and most of those reward pages phrase the acquisition slightly differently and perhaps inadequately.
For example, Template:Reward/Victory or Death/9 links to Commando's Chausses. On "Commando's Chausses", the acquisition phrasing is
== Acquisition == * G W Level 80 personal story reward.
I would like the information to include which events precisely reward the item, but I'm not 100% convinced that I can think of the best way of writing that. Possible option #1:
== Acquisition == * G W Level 80 personal story reward for The Steel Tide, Ships of the Line, and Blast from the Past
When there are more than 3 options I would split the second level bullet into the different sources, e.g. Asura-Charr-Human-Norn-Sylvari would each get a bullet. (something like on Hearty Iron Shield, dunno about commas and the "and" though) -Chieftain Alex 16:52, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
- Prior to the leveling update, it was sufficient to state the level of PS (except at level 80 and couple other places) because every PS step had a distinct level. That's where the old level-only format comes from.
- I would suggest the phrasing: "<icons> Reward from personal story steps X, Y, and Z (level N)." —Dr Ishmael 18:46, 12 June 2015 (UTC)
- That template should be linking to level 80 versions of the items anyway :P
- (well it is for the medium & light armor, but not for the heavy classes) NPE changes switched around a lot of rewards that haven't all been updated --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 08:02, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
Old rewards[edit]
I'm leaving the old rewards here incase any of them have been reused. I have however deleted the old templates. -Chieftain Alex 15:05, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
- the first restored one at least (Template:Reward/Forming the Pact/2) turned out to have simpler rewards.. -Chieftain Alex 16:40, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
- more loot bags for Template:Reward/Forming the Pact/3 + Template:Reward/Forming the Pact/4. I guess this explains why the level reward observed at level 72 is so decent (3 exotic armor items). -Chieftain Alex 12:14, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

Rewarded by[edit]
Would it be possible to alter this template to make it compatible with Template:Rewarded by for item pages? Currently, Template:Rewarded by doesn't display items obtained through story instances so perhaps altering the template to use Template:Rewards item as opposed to Template:Item icon would fix the issue.
