quotation marks colour[edit]

would anyone object to making it #CCC instead of #EEE? (me being as blind as I am can't always make them out at #EEE against the white background xD). ~ PheNaxKian talk 18:46, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

Good point. Changed it to silver, to be consistent with all our other grays ;) poke | talk 19:00, 1 May 2010 (UTC)
<3 thanks =D. ~ PheNaxKian talk 20:05, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

metatags[edit]

does it accept them? (eg. can we use spans on the text & author?) or can we use our signature ( ~~~ for me or ~~~~ for most) for the author? just wondering. — Scythe 18:30, 19 Sep 2010 (UTC)

What about simply trying it? Otherwise normal rules apply, sole pipes need to be escaped and if an equality sign is part of a parameter value, you explicitely need to specify the parameter name. poke | talk 18:41, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
i did try it, its sketchy... a <span style="color:snow; font-size:16px;">*words*</span> wasnt working, and neither was using the ~~~. Was more of a "is there a reason for this?" than a "does this work". Sorry for any confusion :) — Scythe 18:47, 19 Sep 2010 (UTC)
Sandbox. Reason is MediaWiki's template parsing. poke | talk 19:42, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
yes, but how about using spans in the quote itself? i cant make that work — Scythe 20:38, 19 Sep 2010 (UTC)
Nothing special then. poke | talk 20:45, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
? quote not author... see what i mean?Scythe 21:31, 19 Sep 2010 (UTC)

Protect this page[edit]

I think we should protect this page so that only users may edit when needed. - Lucian Shadowborn User Aios sig.png 22:36, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Protection is generally only carried out when a page experiences consistent vandalism. The last edit to this template was in May; there's no need to protect this. pling User Pling sig.png 22:58, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
True, but it is a wide-spread template. Maybe in the future it can be protected. - Lucian Shadowborn User Aios sig.png 23:15, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Remove italics[edit]

I'd like to remove the italics of the quoted text. I find myself skipping over the quote because it subconsciously reminds me of a stub tag or an otheruses tag, with its italicised text and margin, when it's placed at the top of a page. Given that we use it in our infoboxes, it's important that it's formatted adequately; by using them here, the quotes go from being simply flavour text to the most essential pieces of information. Skills and locations will likely have otheruses or stub tags on them, directly above the quotation, so this template should resemble the article's body text more than the notice/maintenance tags. pling User Pling sig.png 21:33, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

I agree and propose to just have it in a unique colour to differentiate (a shade of gray or something). - Infinite - talk 23:09, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
Or two templates? One where it is important information and one when it is skippable fluff? -- aspectacle User Aspectacle.png 23:18, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
The colour should stay black imo (I wouldn't want another {{quote}}...). Instead of two templates, we could just manually format the fluff in italics. But I think that would be unnecessarily complex; not because it's hard to add inverted commas around something, but it wouldn't be easy at a glance for editors to know which quotes to italicise and which not to italicise - they'd have to read a formatting guide or someone else would have to fix it, and that effort is relatively pointless. pling User Pling sig.png 16:03, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
Just remove the italics and make the text 1pt or 2pt bigger then (to differentiate)? - Infinite - talk 16:13, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
I'm fine with removing the quotes. Otherwise the font should stay the same, given that we very often have longer quotation blocks (which is what the template was meant for anyway), instead of simple short lines (like on the profession pages). poke | talk 19:38, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
I'm not so up for just taking out the quotation marks. Because, IMO, they look really good, and it could do with staying looking good Thering 23:55, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
The quotation marks and the grey border are enough to show that a quote is a quote, whether it's a small quote or a big block - the italics aren't necessary and, in my view, are a negative. pling User Pling sig.png 15:03, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Side effects with other positioned images[edit]

This is related to Shewmake's edit before, and this discussion. I know that the (now again) current version might behave weird when used with other absolutely positioned elements; however the change was current version behaves correctly on mainspace articles, which is our primary intent, and does not break any mouse interaction.
If there happens to be another situation, in which this template behaves incorrectly, please notify it immediately and I'll try to find out how to fix that without breaking something else. As of now, I can't really reconstruct such a case (and honestly I don't care to try it when nobody is needing it), so I won't work on it now. If you have an actual use for it, in which it breaks, please report it. poke | talk 20:18, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Quotation source alignment[edit]

Is anyone against removing the text-align: right from the quotation source paragraph? On a regular wide-screen monitor, the source line is currently half a screen apart from the quoted text, which looks really weird to me. --Blackice (talk) 11:29, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

I suppose limiting the blockquote's width to something like 600px would work too. --Blackice (talk) 09:40, 27 March 2018 (UTC)
So, after everyone had ample time for replies and suggestions, I fixed the issue now, according to my own judgement. --Blackice (talk) 11:52, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
I'm wondering if we could remove the -<source> bit altogether for infoboxes. Having it aligned to the left is really ugly. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:59, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
Left looks really odd and leaves a lot more whitespace on the right than desired. I'm not sure removing source is a good idea, Alex, it's very much needed for context on lore articles, perhaps less-so on item articles, however. —Ventriloquist 23:03, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
Sorry to clarify my comment, I'm suggesting we give this template an option to not show the -source bit (e.g. parameter 1 = "no", followed by setting parameter 1 equal to "no" for every infobox usage) - I wasn't meaning remove the quotation source completely from non-infobox stuff. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 23:31, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
Oh, that might work, yeah. While we're at it, I don't think I've ever seen the icon parameter used anywhere tbh. —Ventriloquist 07:00, 15 April 2018 (UTC)
