Description parameters

Instead of having multiple desc# parameters, just have 1 and include explicit linebreaks in the input value. This really should be applied to the original {{recipe}} as well, but that will require editing a lot of pages that use the multiple parameters, and I haven't had time to look at that yet. —Dr Ishmael 15:10, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

Template not working in some cases.

The way the template displays in some cases is not working. Why this is does not make scene. I think it is related to the way the CSS is for the recipe which I do not have access too. I went ahead and calling it complete anyways due to the functions are working just fine. Anzenketh 15:11, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

The code for ingredients was overly complicated due to how you were handling the different conditions. I simplified it a bit with a more elegant way of representing "or" comparisons (it's a little annoying that ParserFunctions don't have a way to support that natively). Auto-cat Recipes

The original {{recipe}} had it forever, and it just got copied over here. I don't really see the point of it myself, so I agree with you. —Dr Ishmael 23:25, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

Quantity

Could we get rid of the extra text "Recipe makes" in front of the amount when using the quantity parameter? It's unnecessary and looks ugly, should be the same as in Template:Recipe. Also when using quantity the item name is only linked in the header, not within the recipe itself. This is what quantity looks like now on a page and this is what it should look like. — 08Ray 22:03, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

SMW

Would there be any objections to setting this template to pickup the icons using a query from the ingredient item's icon smw property? -Chieftain Alex 14:07, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

Variable recipes

Some materials will not have a page. For example, for Armor Containers you can craft with Elonian Wine bottles in the mystic forge, one of the materials is "any Crafted Chest Armor". There's just no way you can make a single page for that~, as there's pages for armor and crafting, but not for Chest armor and particularly, Crafted Chest Armor. It doesn't seem like there's a way to prevent the mat parameters from creating links, or to mask a link there like "Crafting|Crafted Chest Armor" so you can show something and link to something else, so those entries will always get red links that will never get filled. Also, some recipes have variable numbers. There's no way to note that. If you put an X, that looks ugly and doesn't explain that the number may vary. If you put "varies" or something longer, it'll get cropped. MithTalk 20:24, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

Edit: I swear I didn't see the generic parameter the first time I read the page. Someone changed the matrix. The "masked" link thing is still up. It'll be nice being able to link to a page explaining how to get the generic material, like a crafting page for a material that must be crafted. The variable thing is still up, though. Many pages are listing exact numbers for recipes that have variable numbers depending on the tiers of the crafted items. MithTalk 20:29, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

The overhaul to Template:Recipe now allows it to show "fully defined" forge recipes (where neither quantities nor ingredients are variable) and Alex is working on converting them. For variable recipes, we can probably just take this one and make it fully generic, i.e. no automatic linking or icons or anything. The input would be entirely free-form.
