Again, is this truly necessary given that we have the profession color templates? Just seems redundant IMO... Aqua (T|C) 03:15, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- The profession color templates provide access an approprite style string, but not to the actual collor codes. Max 2 09:05, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
- This template should be deprecated now that we have CSS classes to cover colors. It's only used on userpages, and less than 50 of those, so I'll add a task to my to-do to replace those usages. —Dr Ishmael 14:25, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
- actually, this template is more flexible, as CSS classes only allow to generate background colors, while this template can be used with borders etc. color classes are also absent in the current CSS iteration, as it became rather bulky and need optimizing before adding some classes that don't even have a defined scope of use. - Awrighty then. —Dr Ishmael 15:15, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
- Umm, two things:<br\>The formatting help section linked to does not explain how to reference the CSS class and in particular does not explain how multiple classes can be used
If you want to make the CSS values the definitive source, it would make sense to have this and related macros extract the value from CSS.

- You're perfectly correct on the first point. The CSS classes were recently implemented and they are not yet listed in a clear formatting guideline. This should be done asap.
- As for the second point; the CSS classes are detailed and specific enough (to my knowledge) to make all templates for colours redundant in general. However, there are some individual values only the colour templates can produce automatically, which is why this template should be preserved (amongst other colour templates that can't be replaced by the CSS classes yet) and the code cleaned up where possible. - Infinite - talk 23:21, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
