Slightly exploitable AI[edit]

While doing this, I was having a lot of difficulty actually harming the Eye because it always ended up hitting me, even when I dodged. When he retreated to the south to do the mesmer swords routine, I stuck along the outside edge just under the waterfall. Nothing hit me there, and I was far enough away to not trigger his retreat, but I was within longbow range. This let me stand there and cheese him down with weak longbow attacks. And then the sword effects continued for the rest of the mission. 173.32.57.176 18:32, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

And Trahearne is very useless... Attacking the invulnerable eyes. And yes the waterfall worked for me too. No attacks ever hit you when your at that spot. Else a party would be useful.Merujsy 19:08, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
Couldn't find that sweet spot under any of the waterfalls (the closest one to the Eye for me, within longbow range, was the one in the middle, where you're still battered by the geysers/force fields/whatever), but my pet remained right beside it and whittled its health down. --OldBoy 01:55, 25 December 2012 (UTC)

About exploitable AI... When the Eye ports to the side of the chamber and summons friends to drown you in missiles, simply stand there and reflect them. Each projectile does ~2,5k dmg and stun. It can be added to notes as a very easy way to kill the Eye. Did it in a minute or so this way with one reflect skill. 192.168.104.79 14:08, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

Fairly useless information on the main page with several kB of worthless dialog but no information on how to get from the Cathedral to the Artesian well. The reflect trick is the best tip I've seen on this Wiki so far. ````Ecks
Oh, so you are telling me the entire page describing what the Eye does and how to fight it is totally worthless information. Thanks. By the way, if you paid any attention during the end of Romke's Final Voyage, it shows you exactly how to get here. But since not everyone does that mission and apparently this place is somehow hard to find, I'll add a note to the useless walkthrough. Thank you for improving the wiki with your valuable criticism of the content. Vili 点 User talk:Vili 05:34, 17 October 2012 (UTC)
I spent 10 minutes in-game helping a guy find the entrance, I had no problem finding the start. the quest itself took almost 40 minutes by myself because of all the running and my lackluster ele damage. The recent update lowered his health fortunately iirc--Relyk 05:40, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

I have just defeated the eye, doing final dmg when he's near the door. The cutscene did not play and now I'm stuck with nothing happening and will have to redo the mission. :( --192.168.104.83 19:51, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Same thing happened to me in regards to killing him by the door. He died and mission would not progress. Very annoyed.

Had same story stopper here, killed it twice now and submitted a bug report, I'll remove bug dialog I added once I can confirm it's fixed. -Dendrik

I killed him in the middle and the cutscene played, but the royal dude was invisible and silent but his subtitles did pop up. cutscene ends and cannot continue the mission. twice in a row now.

Epicness[edit]

The final moment of this quest is, in my opinion, the best moment in the entire game( well, along with the last quest of your Personal Story ). Music, folks, music ! --89.74.222.105 11:43, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Anyone know which song this is on the 4 disc soundtrack?? i want more!!!! 203.142.139.5 14:51, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

It's a part of "Fear Not This Night", but without the vocals. Seppe314 (talk) 00:22, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

http://youtu.be/KysnE2Z0aRQ?t=16m12s -- Found the part, after all the dialouge, does the soundtrack have fear not this night as an instrumental? or from the christmas events? {{SUBST::User:Keirou/sig}} 14:08, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

Anti-Spam - Quest Annoyance[edit]

I don't think any amount of spam belongs here... Even in the talk section. Yes the quest -is- bugged, but it's still doable.

Uh.. err...[edit]

I had the ill-luck to bring Feedback on my bar. 90 seconds later, it was all over. While I'm happy I didn't have to spend a bunch of time... it wasn't the epic battle I was hoping for. (Which is probably good, as I'm a terrible player otherwise.) --98.183.168.141 03:03, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

I tried Feedback but it would not work. Instead, I used Blink to reach the eye faster when it was not in the center, and it worked like a charm.

Lots of dialogue missing[edit]

Don't think I have any screenshots, but there's a lot of dialogues missing. Some things I noted:

  • Sayeh has different dialogue if you did the Apatia storyline.
  • Carys has different dialogue if you did After the Storm storyline.
  • Elli has different dialogue if asura did VAL-A storyline or sylvari in Trouble at the Roots , I think (needs confirmation). The one that's up is the asura one, which means that not doing either of the before but still doing Ships of the Line should give different dialogue.

Should also check if:

  • ...Galina and Snarl have different dialogues for Iron charr.
  • ...Carys has different dialogue if brought her for Claw Island; should also check that with both doing and not doing Act with Wisdom (the earliest meeting of the NPCs seems to take priority for the various dialogues, so Act with Wisdom's version should override any Claw Island or The Steel Tide dialogue).
  • ...and naturally, we seem to be missing Gara, Shashoo, and Lagula's dialogues. Konig 11:56, 8 August 2014 (UTC)
Added some of the missing dialogues:) ... Regarding Carys: Well, can't help here, in this run I only met her during the "Vigil's plan" and got the present dialogue. When I did this story part with my sylvari I didn't met her at all. Regarding Elli: I did had her present when I did it on my sylvari. And while I have no screenshots anymore, I think I got the present dialogue, even I met her in Trouble at the Roots (but that is no confirmation at all, I could be easily wrong because this was some time ago). Balwin (talk) 16:16, 19 August 2014 (UTC)
Another character for this mission. Because the sequence is currently messed up (until the restoration takes effect) and so I did not any of the Order's plans, I'm not sure about the conditions for the appearence of the NPCs and the possible alternative dialogues. I got all NPCs who are set here for the Whisper's plan. The dialogue with Elli was the generic one (correct, because I didn't met here before), the alternative part for Afanen was probably because I didn't met her in the Vigil's plan part and interestingly Afanen mentioned Carys, who was not present (as far as I'm aware). And sadly I forgot to take a screen with Sayeh. Balwin (talk) 17:54, 6 April 2015 (UTC)
In regards to conditions of appearance, as best as I can figure out they are determined by story steps you do, but half of them are mandatory steps for everyone, resulting in some always showing up (Sayeh, Gorr, Galinda and Snarl, Mira). This ends up creating three "sets" as the apparent chosen steps are in three locations: racial sympathy, Order you went with during Further into Orr, and the aforementioned mandatory steps. Thanks to the reordering mess, the second defaults to Whispers.
In regards to dialogue, going off of those that we have filled for sure, they are based off of the earliest meetings for the NPCs. Most of the NPCs that can show up can be met during Claw Island and during the racial storylines. Sayeh is unique in that her alt dialogue is from the Greatest Fear (only Apatia storyline has NPCs that show up here so the others - Zrii, Afanen, and Inkblood - may also have alt dialogue from then, but no way to test as the current reorder defaults the decision to Zonn, I believe).
It's an interesting set-up, but annoyingly it means that the unique dialogues are very hard to catch as you'd have to either be of the right race *and* storyline options (for Carys, Galinda/Snarl, Elli, and Ballista/Mangonel) or the right Order and storyline options (for Carys, Galinda/Snarl, Gorr, and Fero/Barron); and for Gorr and Eilye, just race and order specifically (and fear for Sayeh). And of course, if you get the racial storyline dialogue, you miss out on the claw island dialogue, and if you get either you miss out on the default dialogue... Konig 19:37, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

Instance Entry[edit]

Not a fan of editing things in detail, but the entry to this story step, as with the one before it is now found at the pact airship docked at Fort Trinity. Puk (talk) 05:28, 27 December 2014 (UTC)

Audio[edit]

Audio seema bit buggy in this mission; after killing the Eye, a lot of the combat audio is missing (resulting in extremely loud death throws from risen/groans from trahearne with no other audio). -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 10:11, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

I believe the missing combat audio is intended, to give more focus to the instrumental Fear not this Night that plays.
As for the super loud grunts, that is a side-effect of Anet increasing that volume slider to the max when they released Drizzlewood Coast without voice acting, and they never turned it down. It is especially egregious in the final fight of Aetherpath, because there are a dozen or more holographic Scarlets doing /threaten and each of them plays the same grunts. Vahid, High Priest of Melandru, also grunts super loud. And I can assure you that this started with that episode without voice acting and was never changed back. Warming Hearth (talk) 10:24, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
Aha. Since I have music on mute that might explain why the combat sounds went funny. Thanks! -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 14:32, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
