Talk:Stronghold of Ebonhawke
Ebon Vanguard[edit]
Perhaps it should be noted that it's possible that over the past 250 years the Ebon Vanguard turned into Ebonhawke? Pure speculation, although both are similar in name and made up entirely of Ascalonians, so it's not that much of a stretch, not to mention the Ebon Vanguard was always by itself doing its own thing. While perhaps only a coincidence, Ebonheart is an imperial stronghold in TES 3 Morrowind which is protected by the Hawkmoth Garrison. Just a random bit of information that I though of sharing. 72.226.249.89 15:43, 26 May 2008 (UTC) Yeah, and I'll bet Ebonhawke is a reference to Jack Black. Since ebon means black, how could they not have based this off him? *sarcasm* Seriously, the amount of stupid edits about obscure GW facts being related to some random thing a user found in a google search. Cut. It. Out.--70.71.240.170 05:48, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
Ooooh you know Ethan Hawke ,the actor his last name is the same as the last five letters in EbonHawke and they have the small first letter. RANDOM TIDBITS FTW!!!! JK Shoyaru 17:28, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
The idea that the Ebon Vanguard (which was an elite organization that worked behind the Charr lines to the north) is now in charge of Ebonhawke (which was a fortress to the south) is pure speculation. Just because the word "Ebon" occurs in both names does not necessarily connect the two. It is unknown if the Ebon Vanguard even exist in GW2. The article Ascalon City states that King Adelbern's forces at Ascalon City were cut off from the Ebon Vanguard, and after the [[Battle of Ascalon City]] the survivors of the city fled south to Ebonhawke. If the Ebon Vanguard were at Ebonhawke and they were cut off from Ascalon City, how could the survivors have fled to the group from which they were militarily cut off? The very idea seems to be absolutely untenable. The Ebon Vanguard could not have been at Ebonhawke. They were at the Eye of the North to the north of Ascalon, not at Ebonhawke in the south. Silmalel 02:26, 13 March 2010 (UTC)
- Please do note, however, that it is mentioned (somewhere, I'd have to scrounge around for the link) that the Ebon Vanguard were recalled from thier post in the Eye of the North. It also says in the current article that Gwen (as captain of the Ebon Vanguard) and the rest of the Ebon Vanguard were sent to Ebonhawke. I am not sure of the origin of this information, however, as no link is provided. Also, I recall that Keiran Thackery's team was called the Ebon Hawkes... or was that the Ebon Falcons?... - ThatOneGuy 07:09, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
Grandness?[edit]
I hope they use some of the original concepts for the great northern wall on this fortress. If the prophecies art book the wall was absolutely gargantum (however u spell that word that means fantasmaly huge. Hey i mean if its holding out vs the charr army why not make it spectacular? Being able to explore the city in full detail itself would be leet of anet...kinda like its own little "pre searing" area. As i understand it, divinities reach is supposed to be a grand spectacle as well.--Justice 19:09, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
- Have you seen the GW2 trailer yet? I'm not sure if it's supposed to show Ascalon before the Searing, but there is a hell of a big city that looks like it. Hopefully they put at least as much effort into Ebonhawke. Oh, and the word you were looking for is Gargantuan. Paddymew 21:25, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- I was a bit disappointed about the looks compared to the concept art, but then concept art is -always- glorified compared to reality. I also didn't like how the city is just part of Field of Ruin and not a proper city in itself, like say, Divinity's Reach. (Which IMO is immensely cooler than Ebonhawke). 84.49.75.226 08:36, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
Ebonheart?[edit]
In Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, there is a fort called "Ebonheart". Possible trivia? Own age myname 13:35, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
- heart =/= hawke. This name just comes from the Ebon Vanguard and/or the Starwars Ship, unless it's otherwise stated by ANet. --Sir Bertrand 15:34, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Do we have the correct image for this?[edit]
after watching the gw2 trailer do we have the correct part of the vidio in the image or do we need to use the image of the walled city at ~2:03 in the trailer or is that the new capital of the human lands in Kryta? 76.186.231.215 05:37, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Establishment[edit]
Does anyone else hear warning bells when they read the source saying Gwen established Ebonhawke? It's not an official announcment, more a re-cap article, and it calls Gwen an Elementalist. I am unconvinced. 122.148.39.152 11:34, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
- I have little doubt that she and Thackeray will establish Ebonhawke, but that is exactly what I kept thinking about, did they really screw up and call Gwen an elementalist rather then a mesmer? Taros 12:33, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
- I don't think its official, but a recap and mistaken speculation. I vote remove, nothing says that an Anet employee was interviewed. Until we can get confirmation, I say we remove it anyways. -- Konig/talk 14:36, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
- Just above the statement where it is said how Ebonhawke is established, it says "Here’s the exclusivostatement about the upcoming War In Kryta event. There were a whole lot of ®s and ™s in this, but I’ve taken them out to protect innocent eyes.", so it seems to be an exclusive. The fact that it says "For more information on Guild Wars and the War in Kryta, please visit www.guildwars.com.", the fact an email about GWBeyond arrived to a friend way after this, and the fact that it seems to have exclusive screenshots (which were also presumably given to gamespot, as it not only has those but has these screenies as well, which feature situations that are not (to my knowledge) recreateable in game, giving the impression they were sent by ANet) all seem to indicate that it's more than just a "recap". --Santax (talk · contribs) 15:20, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

- I'd like to err on the side of caution and wait a little bit. Calling Gwen an elementalist sounds like the noobiest of errors - ArenaNet have made mistakes in their time, but that one's just too crazy for them to make. The rest of the article's credibility is weakened as a result. -- pling 16:18, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

- Please also realize that this is a single typed error-- if it were repeatedly made, then it would be a huge mistake, but honestly; typing elementalist by accident in stead of mesmer? ANYONE can make a mistake like that-- just get some worker early in the morning who hasn't yet had their coffee and is thinking about elementalist designs when they respond, and boom there you have it. :D I think it is possible this is real and just a simple and understandable mistake, but of course there is the chance this is fake. - It was added: "In 1080 AE, King Adelbern sent Gwen Thackeray and the Ebon Vanguard to the city of Ebonhawke in order to solidify supply lines to Ascalon City and to act as a last-ditch holdout position. When Gwen arrived, she fortified the city and withstood siege after siege." I added it, and more when I got my hands on the book on the 29th of April. -- Konig/talk 22:29, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

Hawkgates[edit]
I think we should add something about Hawkgates to this article, as they are the last known wall between charrs and humans. Also they're nice monumets. Shan 09:22, 12 August 2010 (UTC)~
- Maybe a section about the layout of the city that we gleamed from GoA? As of now, we don't really have anywhere to mention the Hawkgates besides the image thumbnail. Putting it anywhere else with the current page would just look tacky. Eive 03:19, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
Asura Gate?[edit]
While they did just get a new gate recently, I thought their old Gate was not functional and was in disrepair. How is it a huge assistance to them when it isn't working? --Or do we know that it worked well in the past? If there is some word that their old Asura gate did indeed aid them in some way, then by all means leave it in. But until then, isn't it better to leave that detail out and prevent speculation? 173.190.25.97 18:44, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
- Maybe somebody fixed it. Haven't read the books though, so I dunno. Mediggo 19:21, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
- It was an old gate that has fallen to disrepair - in other words, it was working, but not anymore during the time of EoD, until it was fixed (and sub-subsequently destroyed and then another new one built). Konig/talk 00:54, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
- But how do we know it was essential to the survival of Ebonhawke? I mean, if that is a logical assumption, then you are welcome to leave it in (I'm not going to remove it, I will let one of you do it if you deem it presumptuous). 173.190.25.97 02:39, 5 August 2011 (UTC)
- My bold guess is that it has something to do with legions of Charr taking over Ascalon, and their resources. Mediggo 06:33, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Nicholas and Yakkington[edit]
I think there should be a small note added that this is the place where Nicholas and Yakkington rest, in the graveyard. They were a very big influence on GW1 towards the end so at least a cliffnote should acknowledge them. 109.145.214.184 14:48, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
- A lot of GW1 NPCs are buried in the graveyard, it is a better note for Defender's Field, the actual graveyard, than on this page, imo. There is already a note denoting that several GW1 NPCs are buried there, and we don't really need to specialize Nick just because he was popular with the fanbase during a certain amount of time - the same goes for Gwen, who was an even bigger influence. Konig/talk 20:40, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
- For some reason when I come here I notice that Yakkingtons grave pulsates a glow. [1] any clues or leads as to why this happens? --70.114.36.115 01:46, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
- Only the map designers know for sure, but my guess is that the glow is there to increase the chances of people checking those particular Gravestones, as Nicholas was kind of a big deal in GW1. People knew him. MithTalk 08:13, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

NPCs[edit]
There are some curious NPCs in this area.
Along the north side of the second ring/avenue there are crafting tables that seem to work for most crafts. Nearby there are NPCs who are labeled as Master Craftsmen, but they don't offer the usual list of materials as the Masters in origin cities (for crafts you are working in).
For example, there is "Ilya," Master Jeweler. She says, "Harness the beauty of jewels and you unleash their potency. Successful jewelers make powerful rings and amulets to gain that edge in combat." Below that there is a listing for your funds followed by "Cost: 12 (silver) 20 (copper)". There is no item listed and the only response listed is "Goodbye." For "Briar", the Master Leatherworker, the price listed is 5s 40c.
Neither of the corresponding Masters in DR have any items that match those prices. Makes you wonder what future game updates may bring to these guys, doesn't it?
- There's also a small kid at the far southern end of the city just to the west of the graveyard that talks about a ghostly charr or something that comes out of the boarded up cavern behind her. So far I can't find anything else linking to this, but it's interesting to note anyway. Nay the One and Only 17:20, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
- That charr's no ghost. The girl saw an Order of Whispers operative sneaking through into their hidden hideout. The charr went stealth-mode on her. If you can find that OoW hideout, that charr will talk about how she's envious you get to walk out in the open while she has to go through sewers and hidden passages. Konig/talk 18:59, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
Fallen Angel Gretel bug?[edit]
Fallen Angel Gretel does not seem to be present at any time. Is any one else experiencing this or is there a prerequisite for making her show up?
- Last night's update must have fixed it - Fallen Angel Gretel was present and the skill challenge worked earlier today. --Matilda Da Hun 03:11, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
- She's not been there on Gandara (EU) for the past couple of nights (16/17 Sept) and at least two escort events in Fields of Ruin are broken as well.
