PURPOSE[edit]
I can't help but presume that this will be another WvW/PvP mount. It's use in PvE would seem to be very limited, unless it can swim? Having a combat Mount in PvE would be very nice, but needing a cannoneer and a driver would make that impossible, or at minimum, very limiting, for this mount. --Enda - talk 17:32, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
- I personally have the feeling there will be events on EoD specifically made for the siege turtle. Otherwise, it was confirmed that it will not be available in WvW, at least not from the start. ~Sime 17:44, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
How do you prevent yourself from boarding someone else's siege turtle accidentally?[edit]

What were they thinking?[edit]
New User: I worked my butt off to get this turtle. I have a friend who gets easily lost in GW2 so it was my hope that a 2 passenger mount would be the answer to all my traveling woes....nothing could be further from the truth. I sit here now contemplating...what were the designers thinking? I feel like it was some kind of staff party intoxicated joke! Allow me to explain. 1) Maneuverability: If you love the feeling of being on ice, slipping every which way at the slightest turn or push, then this is the mount for you. I had hoped this would solve my friends directionally challenged gameplay, instead, when I ride the turtle, I'm worse! There is a chaoticness to the controls that ruins playability. I am sure it was meant as some weird form of game balance but the developers missed the goldilocks zone by like 7 miles. Do not take this thing near cliffs. Which is like a 1/4 of the game. 2) Speaking of don't take this thing near...water. Of all things, this turtle can't go near water? Straight up kills your mount. Now I know tortoises are not a fan of water, but turtles? They are pretty much semi aquatic creatures. And to be fair, he does look like a tortoise, but he is called a turtle.... What could have been a second surface swimming mount became a 300 second wait disappointment to be reusable again. Not only can he not go in to water, but you literally get penalized for making him go into water. Not sure who thought of that one, but I don't see them getting a raise this year. Who signed off on that? 3) Big like Barn: You ever been to a boss fight and someone pulls one of these guys out, kiss your field of view goodbye. Yeah they give the big guy some transparency, but in all honesty, not enough. In fact hiding the turtles like they do pets would be easier to focus on what is already chaos defined in boss fights. In addition to that, mounting one of these things by accident is extremely easy to do. One minute your fighting to save the world, next you are sliding around on the non-ice wondering, which button do I hit to escape? Don't get me wrong, in a calm situation, not as a big deal, in a boss fight tho...different story. 4) Ammo regen: When literally every other missile using creature that ever lived in the GW2 world gets free restocking ammo, except for those darned spears...The turtle comes out as yet another...what were they thinking moment. What could have been just, average damage of the rider, it turned out to be this weird run down a hill fast enough and maybe you get ammo? I don't know, I am still trying to figure that one out tbh. So not everything is bad. They got great HP and they hover. While not enough to save the turtle, the extra HP makes them worthy of a siege. The hover is useful in order to get over annoying objects and enemies. Makes the turtle feel like a land ray..kinda. Summery: Disappointing: In the end the turtle is optional, thankfully, and a bit of a sore spot. Giving it water travel and maneuverability worth having would have made this cute oversized guy fun to play with. It would have given him an enjoyment factor somewhat like riding a living tank. But no, for some reason, they skipped over that part in favour of...well..whatever the fudge this is... I mean, there are always updates, expansions etc... and our hope will have to lay there for now. - Edit: 1 week later...ish. So with some practice I managed to get enough skill to lesson the chaotic back and forth swing of the turtle's gate. It is still annoying, but now more manageable. With a second player riding in the back, I had more motivation to give the turtle a second try despite my first impression. So the real benefits come from the enjoyment of the rider. A stress free ride...mostly, and an amplification of the riding experience added more fun to the turtle as the true terror of zipping by a hydra could be felt as your rider can report the fact that it was still after you, or that it was targeting you. Additionally the turtle is a numpty killer, and does well against a lot of HP fights. Especially if your rider hops out and you act as an earth stomping distraction. Like really that was fun. My rider seemed to only be able to target enemies underwater , which seems strange. I am not sure if auto targeting has anything to do with that or not. The boost feature being given to the rider and not the driver can make for some exciting, or rather terrifying moments while moving. You are supposed to get more control during a boost but I don't see it. This time, and most notably after an update, I found I could now go under water. Thank the developers! If you have ever seen a turtle underwater you would realise that they are like lightning....but not this turtle. However I prefer the slow sink and the ability to afterburn my way out of the water , to being kicked off for like 300 seconds. It got me thinking that the turtle should be the only mount to travers quicksand. It would make for an ALL-TERRAIN-TURTLE and add to its useful and uniqueness as a mount, even if travel was slowed like with water. My practice with the mount has certainly added to me wanting to add to this post. I try to be honest as well as fair in my posts, and well this is my second impression. The turtle is not a must for most game play, but if you have a friend you like to game with specifically to act as rider, then having a second navigator to mark out blue stars for you makes for your own personal mini HP train. There are a few maps where the turtle is a must for meta but most likely you won't be on them very much. It is worth noting that eating food and other boon granting items is impossible while on the turtle, as reported by my rider, which means pit stops are a thing.
