Talk:Remembering Scarlet's War
Why wasn't this accomplished via move?[edit]
I noticed that Remembering Scarlet's War was created (by Tyndel) by directly copying and pasting from Season 1 History Lesson, subsequent to Tyndel's own edit to that article. This is obvious from the first iteration, and more particularly the first revision of the Remembering Scarlet's War article.
The problem is that this destroys the authorship history of the content, which is an issue under the licensing terms of the GW2 Wiki. These terms require acknowledgment of all contributors and preservation of previous contributor history; furthermore, editors retain copyright to their contributions. (And, while GW2 Wiki is distinct from any other wiki, most established Wikis & MMCs deal with this topic in exactly the same way due to similar or identical licensing agreements for editors).
The copying of the content in question would have been fine if it were accomplished by moving the Season 1 History Lesson article and then editing it to whatever extent Tyndel desired.
On Wikipedia, we handle licensing violations of this sort (which are, in fact, copyright violations) by a history merge of the pages in question. For my part, I am unaware of a similar mechanism on the GW2 Wiki, though one may exist. (WP has additional ways of repairing "broken" attribution depending on the situation--fixing the broken attribution and restoring compliance status is the key aim of all of them).
This warrants further discussion (possibly at the policy level), and probably some kind of fix.
- (Note: Konig Des Todes's redirect may raise another similar issue due to the above; however, that would become moot if the original issue is fixed first).

- Since it was just two small sentences I assumed it would be okay to copy. I don't know how to accredit you in hindsight, I apologize.
- And at no point had I the intention to move or redirect Season 1 History Lesson, I wanted to leave it as is. Konig later pointed out that we only keep pages like Gates of Maguuma because they are also releases. Tyndel (talk) 16:41, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
- No apology necessary, I know you didn't do this with malicious intent (it's just a wiki--and it's just a video game, regardless of our interest level). It was definitely more than a couple of sentences; but I am less interested in carefully noting individual parts of non-compliant pages, and more interested in bringing up the policy issue. I've seen similar actions in other article histories, but it's hard to bring attention to procedure when the problem is no longer conspicuous. Fsdafsdbbbbbb (talk) 16:54, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hopefully the history merge I've just done there suffices for all parties. -Chieftain Alex 16:58, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
- I just saw it, thanks for doing that. I wasn't able to find anything in the Help pages about a histmerge, good to know it exists and is used! Fsdafsdbbbbbb (talk) 17:00, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
- Good that this way works. Also I totally overlooked that I copied your walkthrough, sorry. :( I wanted to make a filler edit to note that the image used in the Story Journal is on the wiki but doesn't fit the template and decided to use your summary as a basis for the walkthrough... Tyndel (talk) 17:04, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
- No frowns, it was a technical mistake, not a disaster. It's a mistake that tens of thousands of people make every month (just not on GW2W), and actually it's totally overlooked more often than not. (On the flip side, I really hope my comments didn't sound like an attack or a vehement accusation. You've helped me with at least one thing in the past and I know you're a strong contributor.) Fsdafsdbbbbbb (talk) 17:21, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
- @ Fsdafsdb It's done very infrequently, so it doesn't really need a guide. Once you do it a few times you kind of remember how it works (delete target, move source to target, selectively restore history of cp version). I probably didn't need to delete the moved version to restore it though :P -Chieftain Alex 17:13, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
No video cinematic?[edit]
I recently got and did this quest but when I watched the cinematic there was no video. subtitles and audio were fine, but otherwise it was a black screen. is this normal? I've replayed the cinematic several times over the last few weeks but it always plays the same. Snaid1 (talk) 17:21, 30 July 2015 (UTC)
- No, it's not normal. There was an actual recap cinematic. Looks like it got bugged. If someone else can verify this to ensure it isn't a client-side issue I'd put it up on the page. Konig 02:42, 4 May 2016 (UTC)
Trivia for the recap video?[edit]
I was watching through the scarlet's war recap video and noticed that the map used in the cutscene is the Guild Wars 1 map of Tyria. Not sure if this deserves a spot under Trivia for the page but though id point it out as no one else has. Dragon Nero (talk) 04:33, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
