Recipe formatting[edit]
I'd like to propose that we format recipes in a similar way to skills. This would allow us to dynamically update lists of recipes and components without having to remember to update multiple articles. For example, if ANet updates Fire Attunement (at least in GWW), we only have to update that one article — all the lists of fire skills, enchantments, etc are automatically updated to include the new details.
Currently, if a leatherwork recipe is changed (or added), we have to update the articles for the recipe, each component, leatherworking, etc. That makes it almost certain that we will be woefully out-of-date as we learn more during the BWEs. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:11, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
Recipe Standardization[edit]
Can we decide what should go where on the chef recipe pages? At the moment there is a mix as no-one knows where to put requirements. Some food has a level to use (to consume), a level to craft, and a level as an ingredient in it's own right. Can anything perhaps be done about the templates to add more requirement sections? Simooshy 22:02, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
- I think the idea is that, for now, people should just add details because there will be an overhaul of how we track recipes once the wiki has a new extension. This tool will allow us to define parameters of each item, allowing the wiki to auto-create lists of connected recipes (both up and down the crafting chain). For example, an embroidered jute insignia will show that it uses jute thread, jute bolts, and some fine mat (e.g. venom)...and that it's part of the recipe for any sort of festering armor. And each of those articles will automatically show how they related to the insignia.
- Otherwise, we are currently required to manually update each of the articles mentioned above each time there's new data about jute insignias. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:42, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Are Recipe(the item) Soulbound?[edit]
Are the Recipes purchased from vendors, or found as loot Soulbound?? Rudhraighe 12:35, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
- See thumbnail, doesn't look like it. And I didn't know they could be found as loot. —Dr Ishmael 12:49, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
- Probably a silly question, but I'm presuming that Recipes are character-specific? As in, if one character learned the Apple Pie recipe, all other characters on your Account who are also Chefs won't automatically learn the recipe? - 210.18.195.129 02:59, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
- Correct, they're just like dyes. —Dr Ishmael 03:23, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
- I bought a recipe with karma from a heart trader, this item was soul bound I couldn't give it to my chef char SleepyGamer 04:55, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
- That was a recent and unannounced change. You are correct, recipe sheets are now soulbound. —Dr Ishmael 05:40, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
- I found a Giver's Darksteel Imbued Inscription recipe in a Wintersday Gift... though that's the only recipe I've ever found in loot. Perrsun 17:53, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
Recipe Sheets[edit]
I'm having trouble trying to hunt down Chef Recipe Sheets just using the category page. Maybe we could make a page (or add a section to this page) that lists known recipe sheets and where to find them sorted by crafting discipline? (ChrisClark13 05:23, 29 August 2012 (UTC))
- I'd like that too. Is there a way to put a tag on the actual item so they automatically get indexed somewhere? I know something like that happens with Karma merchants.
- Also, is there any formatting best practice as to when to prepend "Recipe:" on article titles? The R section is getting fairly full of these. Though, it is useful for some at a glance things. Crusader Brice, for example offers both actual weapons and a shield recipe, so the list on his page makes sense.

Recipes must be bought to make the item?[edit]
Can you discover the product of recipes by the discovery feature when crafting or are you only able to make the product of a recipe by first buying the recipes sheet?
- Most "standard" recipes are learned through discovery. Special recipes that have a recipe sheet must be learned from the item. —Dr Ishmael 00:50, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
Learning recipes without crafting discipline?[edit]
Is it possible to use(or consume) recipes without ever having learnt the matching crafting discipline? Tweexx 00:11, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
- Yes. Any character can consume any recipe sheet, regardless of what disciplines the character currently knows and even regardless of what level the character is in the relevant disciplines. The recipe will be available in the crafting interface when the character reaches the required level in a required discipline. —Dr Ishmael 00:38, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
- Ok Thanks a lot, the page didn't say anything about prerequisites to consuming a recipe sheet so i assumed that you needed to have the matching crafting discipline active (or at least activated once) to be able to use it. But as you clearly described this is not the case Tweexx 03:25, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
Individual recipes are listed ...[edit]
Actually no they're not. I've been going around in circles trying to find out how to make heavy armour boxes. The closest I got was the Mystic Forge page where there's a list of WHAT I need, but the numbers needed were not listed (only 'x'). The Recipe page says that the receipes are listed on each professions page, but going to Armoursmith does NOT list how to make the armour boxes (and yes I'm English so I spell Armour the proper way). 86.25.7.1 19:02, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
- I don't think we have item articles for some or all of the heavy armor boxes. Also, this is an English wiki that uses American version of words as ArenaNet is located in the United States and the game uses the American version.--Relyk ~ talk < 19:47, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
- Bulk recipes (boxes/satchels of armor, feasts/trays of food) have not been documented very well on the wiki yet. All bulk recipes can only be unlocked by creating a recipe sheet in the Mystic Forge: details here. —Dr Ishmael 22:54, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
- However the general receipe IS well known, in that you need a chest peice, some Elonian Wine, Crystals, and Mystic Coins, and you need to chuck all 4 items into the Mystic Toilet. The quantities for each tier of armour do not change, but nowhere on the wiki does it say HOW MANY of each item that you need. The closest is a formula hidden on the talk page of Mystic Forge. Ideally there needs to be a table somewhere spelling out how many items you need to create the armour box for each teir and rarity. You don't need 1 page for each receipe, as they all follow the same ingrediants. 86.25.7.1 16:40, 21 July 2013 (UTC)
- That would probably be on the [[armor box]] page for an overview and the actual item pages for armor boxes for individual recipes. Box of Berserker's Barbaric Armor would be an example.--Relyk ~ talk < 17:30, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

Coloured text[edit]
What is with the colouring of the text in the recipe window of the crafting station? Example - I can't see any notes on it anywhere on the wiki so far. My guesses:
- Recipes beyond my crafting level are in red
- Recipes I've crafted before (thus no XP) are grayed out
- Gold text seems to indicate items I can equip
- Turquoise indicates components? (I didn't notice this not being white before level 48)
- Items which I have materials for get the number suffix, e.g. I can craft 1, so " (1)"
Is that correct? -Chieftain Alex 00:18, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
- Gold means you get full crafting xp from it. This will change as your craft level rises and will gradully gray out, going over green, turquoise and white. You can craft an item multiple times and it will give less and less xp until it is grey. The other things you said are correct. Tyndel (talk) 00:23, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
Locked/Unlocked recipes from API?[edit]
Similarly to achievement and skin pages, it would be nice to see which recipes one's account hasn't unlocked yet. -- kazerniel (talk) 18:49, 9 August 2019 (UTC)
- I don't think we can show 13384 recipes on one page... -Chieftain Alex 00:43, 10 August 2019 (UTC)
