- Argh, sorry. I type to fast to spell :P. --aut (t) 17:44, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
- Lol I see you type too fast to spell. xD No matter, spelling mistakes are minor and can easily be fixed. :) It's better to make spelling mistakes than to make endless grammatical mistakes like one of my friends LOL. 173.190.17.186 17:47, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

"Boomerang" rather than "auto-target missile"[edit]
If you look carefully at the video, the phoenix goes in 2 straight paths. It doesn't bounce from target to target, but flies straight for the far target, then straight back to the caster. By moving during this attack, the caster can give it a bit of a boomerang effect, making it hit multiple enemies. We can see that any enemies caught in the line of fire are also injured. 173.190.17.186 18:06, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
- A boomerang effect would be to hard to impliment, so lets just leave it as a space for now, alright? --Neil2250 , The Zoologist 18:07, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
- Well, we know ANet has already achieved making attacks independent entities (as can be seen in many of the videos. For instance: A fire wall is not just a fixed attack, but once implemented it is an independent entity that can be used for many purposes, including for firing projectiles through. We see with the meteor shower attack that it attacks a wide area, and only when an enemy is directly hit by a fireball are they injured, meaning each fireball is independent). I'm thinking this same programming is used for this attack: It is sent outward at a specific target, and anyone caught along the way is also hit. Upon reaching the desired destination, it begins returning to the caster, and the same "line of fire" effect continues until at last it reaches the caster. The reason I think this is because it does not curve to hit each enemy, but travels straight to that far target, then straight to the caster. 173.190.17.186 18:25, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
- I'm gonna second the boomerang. It's not hard to implement, and the video is very convincing in this regard. --121.44.243.220 05:56, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
- Another evidence that it is like a boomerang is the "effect". Look VERY carefully at the phoenix. It hits the first (and closer) enemy; a small burst of flame. It hits the far enemy, and creates a HUGE burst of flame. Then coming back it continues to just make small bursts. I think this indicates the 2 specific points of "targeting" are first a selected enemy, then back to the caster. 173.190.17.186 12:04, 29 April 2010 (UTC)
- Seems this has been confirmed. "We released video of the skill Phoenix recently which is a ground targeted skill that flies in a straight line from the caster to the target and then returns to the caster hitting everything along the way. When it returns to the caster it will also heal them." --quote by Eric Flannum (as seen here) Now I want to know more about Churning Earth lol it intrigues me. ^^ --Amannelle 11:56, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Possible Healing Effect[edit]
Looking at the green glow that surrounds the caster when the phoenix returns, there may be a possible heal amount on return. Taking the stretch a little further, the connotation of "phoenix" not only goes with "fire," but also "life." --Elven Chaos 21:50, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- Perhaps, but that hasn't been stated. I can see it probably happening, but I'd wait for confirmation. --Kyoshi (Talk) 21:55, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- Mabey something like "For how many foes the phionix hits, you gain XXX Energy?" , would that sound about right? o.o --Neil2250 , The Zoologist 21:56, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- It could be something like that. Certainly. I think it'd be more logical to gain energy than health, somehow. --Naoroji I need help! 21:58, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
- (Edit Conflict x2) @Kyoshi I was just speculating and wanting to see what others think. Never a good idea to make serious updates based on pure speculation.
- @Neil Plausible, I would be more inclined to associate green with life and blue with energy, but we will find out. Energy would seem to be the mechanic that would make the most sense with how the elementalist has worked in the past, though directly offensive skills with healing benefit would add a nice touch to the elementalist and fit well on the healing slot when we want more damage.
- @Naoroji /agree, see above for why. --Elven Chaos 22:14, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

- It could also be some sort of interaction between Phoenix and Fire Attunement or another passive skill that we are seeing (meaning that the passive skill is what is actually giving the life/energy once the Phoenix returns), though that's purely speculation also. 4.88.54.235 18:24, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
Focus Attack[edit]
If you watch the video it is very clear that the phoenix and caster are focused around the focus (sorry for that couldnt think of a better word) so I think this spell might be a fire attunement focus attack -- Beggerboy
- It was just coming from his left hand. It's hard to say at this point whether it's focused around the focus. --Kyoshi (Talk) 00:31, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
- The thing is though you can see in the video how his entire body language is centered on the focus and it seems hes almost forcing power into it. -- Beggerboy

@Yarrr 04:06, 29 May 2010 (UTC)- I also tend to believe that Phoenix is a focus skill rather than a scepter skill. Unless we have an official confirmation, I'd like the part about "scepter weapon" to be removed from the article. Chriskang 15:10, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
- I agree, I was reviewing some exterior documentation on the elementalist, but did not find a source specifying it was a sceptor weapon, as such I did remove the line Venom20 15:27, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
- in this [1] video you can plainly see the skill icon for it grayed out on her bar. i know the skill video on the main site shows it with a wand and focus, and the article says we're not certain if that IS the skill icon they'll use, just throwing this out there. Akbaroth 09:47, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- Do we have a source for the skill to be a staff attack because else I'll change it to focus or scepter (hence the animation and comments above) --The Holy Dragons 21:44, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- Search the PAX East Ele videos. Phoenix is now the #4 skill in the staff bar. It was changed since the profession reveal. Chriskang 21:51, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

the healing effect[edit]
in this [2] video, just after 35:10, casts peonix, and on the fiery bird's flight back to her, it swing's into another person, with the same green/blue flash. i think we can assume from this that, like many water skills (Geyser, Water Blast, Healing Wave) it damages any enemies it touches, and heals any allies it touches, as well as healing you. i would have changed the article myself, but since the description was in italics i wasn't sure if the was an official description or not, so i thought i should post here first.Akbaroth 00:55, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
- We have gameplay screenshots with the phoenix description as is. So it will probably stay how it us unless anet changes it. Once it's released and if we do end up finding out it heals ally's it hits, then we can add that as a note on the page. --Saxon 21:23, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
cures conditions[edit]
how many? all of them? 67.188.26.51 08:15, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
- "Removes conditions" usually refers to all of conditions. Mediggo 09:09, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
- Not always, I remember seeing a skill that said "removes conditions from allies" but someone posted their research here that showed it only removed 1 condition from each ally. Can't remember what skill that was. —Dr Ishmael 12:40, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
- Just tested it. It removes 1 condition. 80.112.180.46 07:47, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
