Hmm...So does the name mean that this is a hammer made of ice that breaks ice, or that this is a hammer that is made of ice and breaks things.... Also, if we can make indestructible ice, then why don't we just make castles out of it? EiveTalk 03:33, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Welcome to quebec. There are other places, but I use google.ca and perhaps it's biased. Venom20 User Venom20-icon-0602-sm-black.png 03:53, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Yes, but this hammer says it is indestructible ice. That castle isn't indestructible. EiveTalk 04:05, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Magic which must be somehow limited by the mass of ice available. -- Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig.png 04:48, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
I think the grawl are smarter than we're led on to believe. After all, we got the Ice Breaker from them in GW1. And it's indestructible ice! How did they make that ice into a hammer? Or did they do something to make the ice indestructible? Clever grawl... clever grawl. -- Konig/talk 08:21, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Umm. For no specific reason. I am going to say... GO CANADA! 66.244.214.166 04:11, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Name[edit]

I reckon the origin on this name comes from one of the following

  1. The special purpose ship designed for smashing through ice in order to keep open trade routes or rescue other ships that have been frozen in place.
  2. The phrase "to break the ice" in which one persons action, usually referred to as an 'ice breaker', helps ease any tension or socially uncomfortable situation with other people.

Just my 2 cents --Decoinferno 08:49, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Or because it was a Gw1 weapon found in the Shiverpeaks and it is a hammer. Shiverpeaks=Ice, Hammer=Breaker. - Giant Nuker 11:18, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Ease tension with brute force! Eh, no. -- Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig.png 13:30, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Eh, yes. It's a well-known phrase, and I heard there are references in GW1.
Having a reference is good. Having a reference which doesn't sound strange to those who don't get the reference... brilliance. User A F K When Needed Signature Icon.jpg A F K When Needed 14:42, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
I was referring to the OP; I'm well aware of the GW1 reference. -- Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig.png 00:45, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
Kyoshi, I believe its a play on words. I doubt it was meant to be taken in the literal sense of someone smashing things to ease tension (although the mental image does make me smile). Just my own assumption of course and it may have been unintentional. --Decoinferno 09:01, 14 October 2010 (UTC).
Ooh! I know! Ice Breakers. The mints! Delicious little packages of wonderfulness... Nathan ~ Natejh8 19:04, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I think the name only comes from one thing: It is a breaker (hammer) made out of ice. -- Konig/talk 20:50, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

That's basically what I figured. The supposed wordplay just doesn't seem like a direct enough joke for ANet to have intended it. -- Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig.png 00:22, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
I would have to say, this seems like a very Anet thing to do. Give us a weapon with a name like this to make us wonder whether or not it is a reference, and never give us an answer. EiveTalk 01:32, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
Imo, it is named ice breaker because: it breaks things; it is a chunk of ice at the end of a stick; "break the ice" is a cliché and a double entendre. –~=Ϛρѧякγ AHHH! (τѧιк) ←♥– 02:24, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

in game image[edit]

should someone put the image from the recent anet video? it shows the ice breaker (along with a few other hom pieces) as it would in game Getefix 13:17, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Incorrect name?[edit]

Well, sort of - when I go to the Hall of Monuments the skin is listed at the vendor as "Icebreaker" - one word, not two. As I've never edited a wiki before, I have no idea how tough it would be to find and correct all the references (page names, entries in tables etc) but as I've seen frequent references to the editors of this wiki priding themselves on it's accuracy, I thought someone with a bit more experience might want to go through and fix this (admittedly) minor typo in the name. 78.145.127.232 20:12, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

That's great :) I really should get an account and learn how to do this stuff, but I have so little time after work I'd rather play the game lol --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 78.150.109.7 (talk).
