Talk:Flamethrower

Just pointing out that there were flamethrowers in Nightfall, during the Consulate Docks mission, when your team meets with Lonai. 76.10.181.105 04:49, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

Also note that they are controlled by *drumroll* Engineers. - Infinite - talk 10:21, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

Wall of Fire[edit]

So, is the skill "Napalm" the one that gives you the ability to create a wall of fire with the flamethrower, just like elementalists can? --74.131.101.93 02:37, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

environment will be a big thing, for an archer to say use a tactic, he might have to set his arrows on fire, so as many people need to be able to use environmental skills

In the end, this was limited to combo skills only. Pity, would have been nice to light bonfires with fire skills. 80.112.180.116 17:37, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

Team Fortress 2[edit]

As I have said on Air Blast the flamethrower seems very similar to the one used by the Pyro in Team Fortress 2, from the use of Air Blast which uses the same dynamics in each game. Should we add a trivia on this page saying it is a possible reference, or wait until it is confirmed by the game designers? --Thief tango icon 20px.png Jacob talk ...ninja... 07:59, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

Izzy gives a nod to the similarity with the TF2 pyro at 6:00 of [1] --Thervold 19:38, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
I have edited the trivia with attention to Izzy's support. Though it may very well be an intentional reference (and I'm not trying to dispute this) or more, I do not find a verbatim extent of 'yeah, very similar' to constitute a strong relation for the public. Possibly among others, a stronger reference in supporting that the team is very familiar with TF2 is the Tap-Repeatedly article on the Engineer's main page (just Ctrl-F Fortress). Bundle?[edit]

Does this count as a bundle that would activate the last bonus on the Superior Rune of the Engineer?192.168.104.79 05:56, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

I believe so. The word "bundle" is an artifact term probably from GW1, where it was used to describe anything that the player picked up (or cast, such as an Item Spell).
I'm curious, though, how the player in the picture got a blue flamethrower, whereas every time I equip mine it's brown? --Starfleck 20:38, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Doesn't benefit from main weapon stats[edit]

Flamethrower apparently doesn't scale with your weapon stats, so its base damage is subpar once you go past the 20s. Can anyone confirm this as an intended feature before I report it as a bug? If so, then I'll post on the suggestion forums to request better scaling on the flamethrower itself instead. --JunBerry 23:37, 16 October 2012 (UTC)

There's a lot of skills that don't scale with weapon damage, it's not limited to flamethrower or to engineers. I don't know that any comprehensive breakdown of skills that do or don't scale with weapon damage exists, but, anecdotally, utility skills usually aren't based on weapon damage. I'm guessing that a kit is thought to be a utility skill. Doing some quick testing, here's what I can say:
  • Neither tooltip damage nor damage done change based on equipped weapon.
  • Flamethrower attacks don't trigger on-crit sigils.
  • Tooltip damage is approximately accurate (ie, it matches damage done to within 1%).
So, based on that I'd say it's just not a weapon attack. As for whether or not it's intended? Who knows. That would be a question to ask on the official forums, or maybe try and sneak in a question next time you see the devs hanging out in the PvP lobby :) I only checked a couple of skills for this behavior, but I'll add notes to the skills that I did test that they aren't weapon attacks and what that means.
Also, when you say the damage is subpar after the 20s, how are you gauging that? I ask because I have not found a good way of quantifying relative damage as it scales with level. ~ Capric 00:21, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Might[edit]

Did this grant 6 stacks of might at some point, or am I hallucinating? --76.87.126.187 18:16, 28 October 2012 (PDT)

Whoops, found it, was the juggernaut trait. --76.87.126.187 18:32, 28 October 2012 (PDT)
