Secret[edit]

The recipe is still, truly, a secret? --SlatzG (talk) 19:16, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

gw2spidy seems to think that this item has been renamed to the "Soldier's Verdant Scepter" + that its only the recipe thats called "Recipe: Eye of Power Scepter"... (gw2spidy also says: recipe id = 3858 / [&ChIPAAA=]) :/ nothing links here either, so nobody has reported what drops this either. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:34, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
Checked in game and the recipe name is now Recipe: Soldier's Verdant Scepter, and the item has that name too. I don't think this recipe ever dropped, so we could probably safely redirect this page to verdant scepter, or delete it outright. Psycho Robot (talk) 20:40, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
This is part of the outfall of the recent skins update. A lot of items were renamed to match their skins. This was one of them. SarielV 20 x 20px 15:17, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) API: item_details for 13716, name = Soldier's Verdant Scepter, has default_skin = 3881; skin_details for 3881, name = Verdant Scepter. There is no recipe in the API that has item 13716 as its output. The only thing notable about this anymore is that it's the only Masterwork version of the Verdant Scepter. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 20:41, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
Not sure how Spidy got that recipe ID, but the API says "NOPE", which means no character in the game has the recipe unlocked. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 20:43, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
People HAD it unlocked and were selling these things for ridiculous amounts. You can still find them on the TP as Verdant Scepters being sold for 3-5 gold. SarielV 20 x 20px 15:17, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
No, no one had the recipe unlocked. Ever. It would be in the API if they did. They got the item out of loot bags or the Mystic Forge, but no one ever crafted it. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:46, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
Which assumes the API is neither buggy nor has issues with populating itself, both of which we know aren't true. SarielV 20 x 20px 18:42, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
So how did the folk selling on the TP get them? -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:55, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
The mystic slot machine occasionally gives out items that aren't normally obtainable, I think. Vili 点 User talk:Vili 22:03, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
Iron Legion's Pauldrons has exactly the same issue - the recipe isn't sold where it's supposed to be sold, but the item is still on the list of things you can get from the toilet, and consequently you can sell one for a fortune. Psycho Robot (talk) 23:12, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
Some of the forum-goer's reported getting them as drops and out of bags. But who knows if that is reliable. SarielV 20 x 20px 15:17, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
The funny thing about the IL's Pauldrons is that the skin can be obtained from a variety of sources. That's also true about a number of other over-priced items on the TP: the skins are easily (or reasonably) available from multiple sources, but because the item has a unique name, collectors seem willing to shell out 10-20 gold or more for the privilege of owning one. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 23:30, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
I don't think its collectors. Maybe a small bit, but I think its mostly tp flippers playing hot potato. They buy it, sell it for a bit more to someone else, who sells it abit more to someone else, and so on and so forth until anet removes the item or adds a proper method of acquisition. The same thing is going on with Bag of Experimental Materials some bags. It's not the name, it's just that the supply is really small and they can play financial chicken with it. Psycho Robot (talk) 20:27, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
I see. If I really wanted the Verdant skin, I can look elsewhere. It seems the 14 Apr update renamed a lot of things to include prefix and skin. This really isn't a big deal anymore, imo. --SlatzG (talk) 15:34, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
It's not flippers, since I can sell at the top price within 24 hours usually, e.g. flippers are offering 5g to buy and selling at 10g, but it's still easy to get 9.99g. This is consistent across several items. I suppose it's possible that ANet will eventually offer a different skin for specially named items, like Eye of Power (evocative of something that wouldn't be a standard verdant skin), but I can't imagine them doing it for the Iron Legion's Pauldrons, since that skin already matches the craftable set. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 23:55, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
