Emotes here we come[edit]
:D Kiss/hug/dance with emote here we come! :D (maybe) :o --The Holy Dragons 22:27, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
- Exactly what I've been hoping for. Interactive emotes would be awesome. /armwrestle --Spigs 18:14, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
- Could get to be annoying though. I hope they have a "reject emotes" option. Eive 18:16, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
From what I've seen in the gameplay videos, there's a "[Character name] went to sleep.]" that would occur sometimes. Could this mean they're integrating a sleep emote?--74.131.99.244 16:04, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
- I hope there's a "high-five" emote. Be funkeh. Zolann The Irreverent 20:41, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
- Rubi mentioned in one of her fanday blogs that /cower exists (your character crouches down, covering your head with your arms). She used it to try to get a scenery screenshot without her character obscuring the centre of it. Yol 15:07, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
- In the Gamespot underwater demo, they start with what looks like two untargeted emotes in the chat box. One is the wave emote. The other seems to be 'whups'. Whether this is an actual regional variant or a colloquial spelling of 'whoops', it is unclear. (For differentiation: whups is defined as something like 'to beat or thrash'. Whooping is along the lines of your standard bellowing cheer.) Redshift 13:50, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
- Does anyone know what the emote is that causes the message "[Character Name] Busts some cool moves!"? Found it in the Chat Window pic on the UI page. Zolann The Irreverent 22:27, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Laugh, Taunt and Sleep at gamescom?[edit]
There is a video where you can see the player asura laughing (a lot, he falls to the ground and cries from laugh), then he makes another emote showing his fits and then a threaten look. In a different video I saw another one sleeping in the ground making a lot of noise snoring. Lokheit 16:31, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
water themed emotes?[edit]
with underwater being such a huge new part of the game, it would be cool if they added water themed emotes such as /CANNON BALL! --Moto Saxon 18:23, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
- aren't cannon balls meant for jumping into the water? --The Holy Dragons 18:46, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
- I believe that's what he meant... --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 78.150.162.162 (talk).

Not sure if I should edit or not- I haven't put anything on an article before. Just wanted to throw this up here. Crane Song 21:11, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

Table instead of list?[edit]
I think the current list of emotes looks fugly, especially with the targeted/untargeted messages for every other emote in this massive snake of text. I hereby propose something like this (don't mind the colors) to make it look a bit cleaner, especially if the majority of emotes can be targeted:
Command | Chat message | Targeted message | |
---|---|---|---|
/bow | [Character] bows. | [Character] bows for [Target]. | |
/cheer | [Character] cheers. | [Character] cheers for [Target]. | |
/cry | [Character] cries. | ||
/laugh | [Character] laughs. | [Character] laughs with [Target]. | |
/point | [Character] points. | [Character] points at [Target]. | |
/salute | [Character] salutes. | ||
/sit | [Character] sits. | ||
/sleep | [Character] sleeps. | ||
/tease | [Character] teases. | [Character] teases [Target]. | |
/wave | [Character] waves. | [Character] waves at [Target]. | |
/kneel | [Character] kneels. | [Character] kneels for [Target]. |
--zeeZ (talk) 13:04, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
- I can totally agree on this one, something that looks appealing to the eye will always be more enjoyable and easier to read...Kind Regards, Bullshizle
- and above all, it's clear, a large list of emotes will look like a huge wall of text, this however won't. --The Holy Dragons 13:35, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
- Good job. I was about to create a table and found this update — plus, looks much better than the one I had in mind. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 14:25, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

Emotes that have yet to be implemented[edit]
While typing out different emotes and trying to find new ones, I noticed that some commands don't do anything, but also don't bring up the error message "Unknown Command." Presumably these are emotes that the game recognizes but your character cannot perform in the beta. Among these are a number of GW1 emotes like /boo, /dance, and /violin, and also some new ones like /encourage. Should we add some of these to a separate table or just wait until they can be performed in a beta/release? Fabala011 02:21, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
Mounts have been added to the game with "Path Of Fire" and it makes you wonder if they will get an update to /threaten or /roar or /sit /sleep etc.
- I noticed this too, a list should be started on this talk page at least. --Skekzyz 13:08, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- looks like /ready is on the list, as well as /rock /paper /scissors - things that don't produce an error response anyway 67.161.250.9 03:22, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
- I think that most, if not all, the old emotes are coming back. Just went through and tested it and there were only a handful of the old emotes that produced the unknown command message. /aion, /helpme (though /help brings up the hint menu), /stand, the rank emotes, and /roll # were the only emotes from GW1 that produced the unknown command message. 72.225.56.229 19:01, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- Well the game is out. Have any of the old emotes been added? I'm trying some of them, but not getting any response. Any chance they'll be added later? 192.168.104.32 04:49, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
- /stuck is also an unimplemented emote. Unfortunately, it doesn't work.--152.7.16.116 22:04, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
- When I type "/stuck" I get a message something like, "Your position has been logged. Please use the nearest waypoint." Do we know that this isn't used for anything? 24.1.178.172 20:08, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
- /stuck is also an unimplemented emote. Unfortunately, it doesn't work.--152.7.16.116 22:04, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
MERGED[edit]
I've noticed that typing GW1 emotes that aren't in GW2 won't do anything visually, but also won't tell you "Unknown command." We should probably note that. Also I hope they add some more of those emotes in over time, I really miss some of them. talk 04:07, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
Alias emotes to bind keys[edit]
I may put this on my GW2 suggestions, but I would love to have a way to bind emotes to key presses, a seperate dialog could be used because I have a sneaking suspicion that there is no way Anet would allow access to any kind of console even if it exists. --Skekzyz 13:14, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
Xpadder is a free open source program that allows Keybinds and mapping, specific orders of keys, control the speed of the keys pressed, and so forth but is designed for use with console game controllers it allows macro of complex keyboard and mouse commands in any order you desire to program it to do so and will work well with gw2 as well. (tested and confirmed)
- Anet doesn't like programs that bind multiple actions to one key. Their general policy is 1 button, 1 press. So you can use a macro to open bags, but you can't use one to do a skill rotation. The only exception they've made it that you can use macros to play musical instruments. Use macros at your owwn risk.--Rain Spell (talk) 16:56, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
Dance[edit]
Saddened that /dance didn't make it into GW2. D: 71.51.54.140 06:41, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- It only failed to reach the beta. According to a post by someone from ANet (on the now deleted beta forums), it will be in the game. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 07:48, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
- Leaves us only to hope we may choose our dance style instead of being stuck with one. The rest of the game is awesome anyways. 95.227.164.136 08:17, 30 July 2012 (UTC) a.k.a. Deadfalk
In the current stress stest, /dance is working properly. TulipVorlax 19:38, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
- Confirmed
Dances appear to be the same for both genders of each race.
Asura: Robot/Popping
Humans: Melborne Shuffle
The male does one step more then the female. When sync dancing at one point male and female get back to back.
Charr: Tribal War Dance Norn & Sylvari: What do you call that?
- So dancing is based on race only? Not profession or gender? Ramei Arashi 02:58, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
- Dance is just race specific. It is not profession also not gender specific.-- Fey 03:23, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hk0xZqUuNNk Video of each dance and shows where they are from. Sylvari is apparently a Bhangra dance. -- Fey 03:23, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
- The LMFAO dance is actually called the Melbourne Shuffle, and I am pretty sure haka used is the All Blacks haka, due to the throat-cut gesture which was controversial when it was first used Lynx raven raide 09:03, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Sync[edit]
Using an asterisk allows multiple people to synchronize emotes. I didn't count to see if it was still a 5 second window like in GW1, though. Did anyone else time it? — 9:21, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
Humming[edit]
Anybody else notice their character hums when doing /dance? (female human) --Roe Cantarus 05:56, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
The Showing Weapons entry[edit]
This is the most complicated way, and the non-cheap method for half the classes, to show weapons while doing an emote. I have never done it with an item myself, and I have done /dance often while showing weapon. Really since it is more of a bug, but cool none the less, should this actually be here? If so, should it not show all the ways to do it?75.200.210.142 01:38, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
Custom emotes in WvW[edit]
so custom emote can be used to talk with enemy players? (typing /me followed by the desired words you wish to express allows custom emotes) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 95.108.126.228 (talk • contribs) at 22:58, 30 March 2013 (UTC).
Attack on Dragon?[edit]
/Salute bears a remarkable resemblance to the salute from Attack on Titan, without the upward twisted fist. Are there any other examples of this salute being used? Smoke (talk) 12:30, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- Nah, it's a fairly standard style of salute. The upward-pointing fist would be the signature aspect of Attack on Titan's salute, and since that's not present here, it's not a reference. [edit] I should specify: it's fairly standard in works of fantasy in my experience; it's not used by any real-world military (afaik), who all use a hand-to-forehead style of salute. —Dr Ishmael 12:47, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
New section that includes list of transformations that can do emotes?[edit]
Like when using tonics and other transformations, some of them can do emotes, would it be right to put that list here?
- It's a relatively small number, but it wouldn't hurt. —Ventriloquist 20:18, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
/join and /invite[edit]
Should these be added since they actually work? 84.119.2.102 23:38, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
- No, those are chat commands. This article is about emotes that "...cause the player's character to perform an animation; a corresponding description of the emote appears in the emote chat channel." /Join and /invite are purely mechanical, whereas /sit or /sleep actually have animations. —Ventriloquist 10:06, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
Weapon Out Dancing[edit]
Not exactly sure when this change was made but it was very recent, damned dirty anerf has taken our ability to swap weapons just as we hit enter on an emote and have those weapons showing during the animation of said emote, which is why I will forever call them ANERF! --Skekzyz (talk) 00:31, 11 June 2017 (UTC)
Feedback 2017/08/09[edit]
~~The Norn dance is called the Charleston and it existed before Fresh Prince of Belair, just as note.~~ Urgh, nevermind. I just noticed the differences- sorry. x.x --38.80.245.26 04:52, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
Separation from "Standard" emotes[edit]
I just made this because I believe some emotes should be separated or It will occur some confusion for some people... How do you think about this? --Targal (talk) 07:57, 20 September 2019 (UTC)

- I like it, worth adding it to the page! talk 08:45, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
- Simply extending the existing table could be enough too maybe, like this. That way you keep a unique complete list, which can be sorted to "separate" it. (Not sure why the item icon template does not work multiple times, not editing this wiki often, would need to be fixed). - Ray Koopa (talk) 12:11, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
