skill activation[edit]

In Guild Wars you could see when someone activated a skill ^. I assume that will not be the case in Guild Wars 2?

My assumption is based on two main points;

  1. It completely destroys the point of having both Leap and Illusionary Leap. The weapon would be far too gimped if someone can tell which one you're using; they would have to be utility abilities. Why break targeting if it's that obvious?
  2. When I thought of the above, I remembered that interrupts will not exist (at least not the way they did in the original). My current understanding is that it will be possible for you to interrupt others, but there are ~no abilities where that is the objective, à la Distracting Blow.

If true, this is... interesting. User A F K When Needed Signature Icon.png A F K When Needed 17:05, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Or, clone abilities have a special or no animation. So far, to my knowledge every skill has had a pretty unique animation (don't know about different shouts, etc. though) so why can't both sword skills break targeting or keep targeting on one of the two (whoever stands still - minion or mesmer - for both skills) and have an animation that looks the same for both? I'm not a veteran of the original Guild Wars so if you mean something else please clarify, although I'm sure that something as blatant and egregious as what you are describing would be taken care of.
Secondly, I think they mean that there are interrupts in the form of knockbacks and knockdowns, fear, etc. but nothing simply called "interrupt" because it was hard to explain in a real-world, RP setting and broke immersion. Thunderduck 21:41, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Clone damage[edit]

Do clones cause dmg with there attacks? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 208.23.158.28 (talk).

Their* They barely do any damage. Igor 21:59, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
I know in BWE1 they did base damage in addition to the spell effect. However, ArenaNet removed the damage in BWE2. I don't know if it changed any as of BWE3. I missed it. Hopefully they added the damage back... TaxBrony 02:44, 1 August 2012 (UTC)
They really need to add some dmg to the clones they are so weak, they die in one hit and do no dmg. they might be a bit more useful in pvp to confuse people for a second, but at least in pve they felt useless to me and is frustrating because i love the Mesmer but the clones are annoying me so much :( 64.237.183.192 02:48, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
They're great for tanking, if nothing else. Shattering them also causes considerable damage. - Alltat 05:46, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

Call targets on Mesmer[edit]

In this footage Wars 2 PVP: Mesmer vs Warrior we can see the warrior using Call Target on the mesmer. When the mesmer cast a clone the call target stay on the actual player. This goes against the basic mesmer ability in PVP wich is stated in the second sentence of this wiki "The creation of a clone will break targeting on the caster, such that a player enemy will have to both find and reselect the mesmer to continue using targeted skills".

As you can see this is a very easy way to bypass the most basic and fundamental mesmer ability to confuse other players with clones. The crosair should display on the player and also on the clones.

What does everyone think? --Akeif 19:11, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

I would not really agree with you there because then the mesmer could just snap clones and phantasms. To by pass the targeting machanic. Which is OP. but don't worry Mesmers can loose target by using stealth. Decoy is a good example of this. Also I am a mesmer and not a mesmer hater so I am being fair in my proposal.

Clones usefulness[edit]

Even though clones do not cause damage, they are able to inflict conditions to their target, making the staff clone a damage dealer and the sword clone a vulnerabilizer. I've not experimented enough with the scepter and great sword clones but I think they should add some conditions even though the actual mesmer can't with the slot 1 skill.

Clones also increase the effectiveness of Mesmer profession skills. Also known as Shatter skills this allows mesmers to daze, damage, evade, or confuse.

Question?[edit]

Um so the clones use the number 1 skill of the weapon you were holding when it was created. Got that. But do they use the full skill 1 chain if it exists. For example do 1h sword clones stack vuln, and remove boons

yes clones use the full chain of 1 skill attack which can result in vulnerability stacking when created with the sword. however they likely wont live long enough to complete a single chain.

Mesmer attributes retained by clones?[edit]

Are attributes of the Mesmer retained by the clones? It seems that precision (or critical chance, directly?) is retained, but what about all other attributes, including condition damage, duration, vitality, toughness, etcetera? - Darkever, 2013/03/06 2:28 UTC

Clones don't wear Outfits[edit]

I added this to the page, but not sure if it is considered a bug or maybe an oversight. If your Mesmer has an outfit active, covering your armor, the clones do not have the outfit on but the original armor being covered up. So for right now, if you are a mesmer who uses clones to distract other players, doing it with an outfit on doesn't really work as you stand out from them. Kenrid (talk) 08:39, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

Mirage Thrust[edit]

Should Mirage Thrust be listed in the Clone Skills table? It summons a clone, but categorically it is an Ambush Skill rather than a Clone Skill so I wasn't sure. Shadowlance (talk) 17:33, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
