Talk:Character slots
Any Information on GW2 Character Slots?[edit]
- → moved from Guild Wars Wiki/User talk:Gaile Gray
Hi, I hope this is really in the right place but anyway... was sitting staring at all my character login screen on my account and a question struck me: Will character slots be universal? Has Anet had any discussion on limiting game originated character slots? (ie, if I deleted all my non-useful Guild Wars character when Guild Wars 2 comes out, will I be able to use those spaces for brand spanking new Guild Wars 2 characters?) House Of Furyan 03:34, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
- I've read somewhere, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that character slots will not be transferable to GW2. Renin 03:49, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
- I hope thats not the case, otherwise what are we supposed to do with them if you don't play Guild Wars after we add the Guild Wars 2 key to our accounts? Lot of scrolling to get to our Guild Wars 2 charactersHouse Of Furyan 04:26, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
- Sales, they'll make you buy GW2 character slots. It's how they're going to extract money from us. In a business point of view, that's the way to go since GW2 will also be a retail-once-free-forever model. With how the new character selection set up will be, there have been no new information either. All we can ever do is hope, wait and see if GW2 will really be wonderful. Of course don't ever EVER put your expectation so high that you'll be disappointed with the end result. Renin 04:31, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
- I'm fairly sure GW2 will have a different game client... -- Frozzen 04:32, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
- This has been said time and time again but GW2 will be a completly new game. Thus starting afresh. You're charecter slots will not transfer. I'm even doubtful if it will be the same game client. -- Salome 11:10, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

- Considering the HoM is character based I'm sure the GW2 game client will have to incorporate Guild Wars in same ways, otherwise, how's that supposed to work? I suppose its unrealistic to expect character slots to be account based instead of game based - well, maybe character slots purchased through the store would be, but no those allocated through campaign purchase. Anyway, was just a question. House Of Furyan 21:51, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
- Considering the HoM is stored server side, they just need to have both clients capable of accessing the HoM data. I'd be astounded if the same client was used for GW2. - HeWhoIsPale 21:55, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Guild Wars 2 is a completely separate game. Character slots will not be transferable, and characters will not move between the two games. -- Gaile 00:58, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply :D 118.92.35.136 02:32, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
- I Know this probably hasnt been decided yet, but just in case, do you know if there is going to be anything different you will get if you have invested more into the game, IE buying extra Char. Slots ? 121.218.188.59 08:53, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
- Hopefully we get the same kinds of things as in GW1" extra char slots, various unlocks, and possibly minipacks like the BMP. -- Alaris 19:22, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
(Reset indent) What are the maximum number of character slots a player can have on their account? There are 8 professions in Guild Wars 2 and I would like to have one character for each profession. I know that the number of character slots available to new accounts has not been finalized, but that we will be able to buy more slots through the in game store (Guild Wars 2 Wiki FAQ). Gaile, can you or someone else from ArenaNet comment on this? Pre-Orders begin on April 10 and I would like the know if I need to reserve one or two copies of the game.
- I have also heard rumors that additional character slots will be able to be purchased using in game gold. Gaile, can you or someone else from ArenaNet comment on this as well? I would really appreciate any information you (or anyone else from ArenaNet) could provide. -- ChaosInferno21
- We are not ArenaNet. ArenaNet runs our server, but we're just a fanbase. I highly doubt you'll get any official statements by asking on an orphaned talk page. Best thing is possibly ask at the next reddit AMA. Aqua (T|C) 14:34, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
- Gaile Gray is the ArenaNet Support Liaison. She communicates with ArenaNet and might be able to get a response from them on this topic. Asking at the next AMA is a great suggestion. The only problem is that I don't see one planned and I was hoping to hear a response before Tuesday. -- ChaosInferno21 14:57, 08 April 2012 (UTC)
- Whilst that is perfectly correct, Gaile probably never ends up reading this topic anymore. Alternative methods are more reliable by far. - Infinite - talk 16:12, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
- I'd like extra character slots to transfer. Give something back to the people who made extra purchases for GW1. However, I think it is reasonable if they don't transfer (though certainly not preferable). What I will be hugely disappointed by is if they cut back on the number of slots we get from their old formula. 4 slots, with 2 per expansion was tight. Very tight. It's OK though, but I'd feel hugely ripped off and let down if they reduced that.--Mooseyfate 07:02, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

This is a (GWW/GW2W Wiki) Test[edit]
I've moved a discussion from my Guild Wars Wiki page to this topical Guild Wars 2 Wiki page. I've experimented with how to place redirects and seek feedback on how this can best be done. I know that as the months pass, more and more questions about GW2 will appear on my talk page, and I'd like to find the best means of responding, redirecting, and then archiving later. It's my belief that Guild Wars 2 questions would best be placed here, rather than on the GWW, even if the GWW is more heavily trafficked right now. You know, "A place for everything, and everything in its place."
Feedback on this process is welcome! :) -- Gaile 19:55, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
- I'd rather you only did soft-redirects. While it's probably possible to do a
#REDIRECT [[gw2:Character slots]]
, I think it's better for people to know in advance that they're being transferred to what is effectively a different site. You probably also want to use inter-wiki links, just because - for example, instead of saying{{moved|to|[http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Talk:Character_slots Guild Wars 2 Wiki/Talk:Character slots]}}
, use{{moved|to|[[gw2:Talk:Character slots|Guild Wars 2 Wiki/Talk:Character slots]]}}
- it's shorter to type, and looks better ;)
- My only other potential concern would be that simply copy-pasting a discussion over could violate the terms of the GFDL license; however, I think that the fact that the two wikis are linked (and therefore, the users are the same at both locations), combined with the fact that each user has (theoretically) signed her comments, should allow us to slip through there =P It'd probably be best if you kept leaving the movedfrom link at the top of each thing too.
- And hey, considering the absurd amount of traffic your page gets, maybe it'll speed things up over here, too =P That's all that comes to mind at the moment. MisterPepe talk 20:11, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
Oh so informative[edit]
I'm guessing this is one of those pages that only exists for the talk page? -- Armond Warblade 07:12, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, because of all of the people badgering Gaile about whether their extra slots will be transferable. Lord Belar 18:41, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
- How astute, Armond.
- I personally thought it was started just as a page people knew extra information would be added to, though I'm not familiar with all the GW2 wiki policies at the moment.Tambora 01:03, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Deletion tag[edit]
I am of the opinion that this article should not be deleted due to its talk page; orphaned talk pages are hard to find. Other thoughts? 05:37, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
- Poke has the means to find orphaned talk pages (which I believe he does every now and then), so there's no problem with leaving the talk page for the time being. 87.242.145.5 12:33, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- That's fine for Poke, but it should also be accessible to other people. >.> 22:34, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
- if you ask him he'll stick any currently orphaned talk pages onto a page for you (or you could ask him to tell you how, I don't think it's anything difficult (though I'm not sure)). 88.144.44.78 23:12, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
- We could move the contents of this talk page to the talk of Character or something like that? --Aspectacle 23:26, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
- That's not a bad idea. And I know how to move and subst pages, it's not me that needs to find it... it's everyone, I guess. I dunno. 21:05, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- I disagree with the deletion of this talk page. I agree that there should be a regular page created for this page saying "No Official Information Available at this time". I have found many pages on this wiki like that already, so unless they are all deleted to, I think that's what we should do. NOTE: I don't think they all should be deleted, this is a great framework for things to come.--Mooseyfate 06:58, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
