Talk:Aurene's Bite
I don't know how to update the header image for the unlock screen, but it's the Aurene/Zhaitan image if someone has datamined them. [[File:Aurene's Bite unlock.png|thumb]] --Atrophied.8725 (talk)
Who is referenced in the flavor text?[edit]
I think this revision is fair enough and I'm not going to revert it, but I will say that the wording seems to support the conclusion that "he" is Joko.
“His voice whispers at the back of my mind, his soul as ripe as it was in "life." He tells me things. About the Mists, about the Underworld... Terrifying, dark things.
'his soul as ripe as it was in "life"' implies to us that the subject wasn't really alive in the typical sense - which is true of Joko but not of Balthazar, imo. I think we can rule out "just some random soul" for the flavor text of a legendary weapon - seems unlikely to me that Anet would reference trivial/unheard-of figures here. If it's a toss-up between Balthazar and Joko, I'd say that the emphasis on "life" implies Joko.
Anyway, obviously we can't be certain, but we're not "certain" about many lore things and I think the implication is strong enough that I'd support re-adding the Joko link. Interested to hear others' thoughts :) Heillos (talk) 06:48, 17 August 2022 (UTC)
- Regarding Balthazar being "alive", I'll just quote two things about the gods:
- "I risked my life many times for Kormir, but she got what every great warrior deserves. She died courageously." Koss on Koss (book)
- "Scanner: No—life—detected. Only—magic—energy—present." Heart of the Volcano (story)
- So there's evidence to say the Six Gods aren't really alive, so they're 'in "life"' too. But either way, I agree that it is probably Joko (though the notion of Aurene having consumed souls either way is pretty grim and a flat out evil action) but not guaranteed.
