Single Target AoE[edit]
This is a AoE skill that the radiates from a outside target unlike a point blank. as in the Warrior skill, the warrior hits a single target, but the effect radiates outward effecting nearby enemies--Knighthonor 01:30, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
skill type list[edit]
... are we going to compose one? if so, on this page? I can imagine the list would be really long, especially if it's all professions, and all the environmental weapons... Anybody up to the challenge? ^,^' ~~ Kiomadoushi 18:45, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
Targetting AoE[edit]
I made some changes regarding to various definitions of AoE to the article so here's some explanation and reasoning behind them:
- First off, targetting: I split formerly "Ground targeted" AoE type to its own section and changed its very definition. This because skills which were "ground targeted" could also be targeted to the location of foe (or even an all's location?), according to note about aiming controls. All other types of skills other than those targeted with cursor will automatically aim at supposed direction of the enemy or wherever the player character is facing. So that's why I split and renamed "ground targeted" AoE to manually targeted AoE and all other, automatically aimed AoE to automatically targeted AoE.
- Changing "Trail" type to Line - simply because there's no player dashing across and area or anything else speeding and actually creating a trail (trail=left by something?) of AoE. Notable examples are, as included in the article, Line of Warding, Flamewall and Spectral Wall (that is actually an assumption I had from memory, if anyone else would confirm, it'd be cool).
- Removing some outdated references - because we've actually had access to in-game content by ourselves in recent public betas.
- Rewording some definitions because "target point blank" sounds mildly confusing - Does the target of the skill to be in point blank range or wut?
- Rewording of the section describing how to aim manually targeted AoE to, hopefully, clarify and add more detail.
- Removing mentions of spells, because not only spells can be AoE skills or manually targeted skills (banners!)
If there's anything that seems out of place, please edit/discuss. :) Mediggo 12:54, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
What entities count as allies for AOE boon effects?[edit]
An area of effect skill may only affect a maximum of 5 targets, so this is an important question. The Summon page lists Banners, Elementals, Fellow Thieves, Illusions, Minions, Spirits, Spirit Weapons, Turrets and Summons. Minions apparently do count, while objects like banners and turrets almost certainly do not, but what about the others? Pets are not summoned allies, but they apparently also count as AOE targets. There's also NPCs, their pets and minions. I created a page for Ally, but perhaps the definition for ally should be on this page and have "Ally" and "Allies" redirected to it. --Triplehammer 09:19, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
Maximum Targets[edit]
The page says that AoE skills affect a maximum of 5 targets, but I don't think that's always the case; some skills explicitly state in their tooltips that they are limited to 5 targets ("Retreat!"), but other skills specify other limits (Sword Wave), I've seen some cases where a skill has seemed to affect a lot more than 5 targets (such as the healing effect at the end of Empower...though that might have been changed in a patch), and I also seem to recall reading somewhere that melee skills typically hit a maximum of 3 targets (though I can't seem to find that reference at the moment).
What's the statement in the article based on? Is it basically correct with a few special cases, or is it just wrong? Is the maximum number of targets predictable based on the tooltip or the type of skill? --Felbryn 08:35, 5 December 2012 (UTC)
- It was based on a forum thread that disappeared. Skills like Empower and shouts were bugged until recently, but now only effect up to 5 targets. I'm pretty sure I've hit 5 things with a greatsword, or even the warrior's sword before. Manifold 17:38, 5 December 2012 (UTC)
Weapons and Melee AoE[edit]
This can potentially differ between profession, since skills can have their own AoE. But listing the AoE tendencies for weapons would be nice. For example, Sword attacks seem to hit 3 targets regardless of profession. If we could list these out it would be extremely helpful for aiding players in choosing a weapon to use in a build/scenario. Anyone know off the top of their head what the Melee AoE is for each weapon? -- 75.118.34.29 18:46, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
