Talk:Aegis
Does anyone else dislike the looks of the shield Aegis produces when it's active? I mean, the effect is nice and everything but the shape is a bit naff. I would rather a skill bar effect like Virtue of Justice or maybe an aura to indicate that the Aegis is active. Plus, and I know this is a little thing, you cannot properly see your equipped shield under it. And if you have a really cool looking shield the last thing you want to see is a naff energy shield blocking your view. I know that's a bit petty but hey, I like aesthetics and this Aegis effect just doesn't do it for me. Not that I dislike its effect mind you :) - Rin Aki 21:07, 22 May 2011 (GMT)
- So isn't this the same as a pre-emptive blind? Protection or regeneration sound more powerful than this. 122.111.161.4 07:06, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- I guess it is similar yeah, but I am not sure if Blind will prevent a spell from hitting whereas I believe Aegis will. Plus the advantage of Aegis over Blind is you don't have to worry about Aegis hitting its target, as it always will, but Blind on the other hand has that chance the foe will evade it. I don't mind the effect off Aegis though, it's more the look of it that bothers me. - Rin Aki 14:04, 25 May 2011 (GMT)
- Since there is no difference between an "attack" and a "spell", blind will prevent a (projectile) spell frim hitting | Corvus 13:16, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks Corvus, I wasn't sure on that point. Do you know if it effects spells that are not projectiles? I would assume not, but if there is any source that states otherwise that would be good to know, and possibly be added to Blind as a note?. - Rin Aki 15:06, 25 May 2011 (GMT)
- Sounds logical but i don't know either | Corvus 15:51, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

unique to guardian?[edit]
The mesmer staff skill Chaos Storm can also grant Aegis. —Dr Ishmael 20:14, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
- I follow the "only explicit reference" warrants documentation in lists. Originally, we just had the description and as it wasn't specific (just "random condition"), I put it on the condition page. I'll add it. Aqua (talk) 20:46, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
When the Effect Ends?[edit]
Does aegis end after the first block or when its duration ends?198.228.200.21 16:21, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
"Block"[edit]
For purposes of traits that effect blocking, does anyone know how aegis reacts with them? Does the game treat it as a different kind of block? --Ph03n1x (talk) 20:53, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
- Should be able to test this easily enough in Heart of the Mists - take a guardian and equip the Might of the Protector trait, go fight with one of the sparring NPCs. Do you gain Might when Aegis blocks their first attack? —Dr Ishmael 21:05, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
- As far as I know, unblockable skills go through Aegis. I believe that traits that cause effects when a block occurs work with Aegis. I think it's the premise for a few WvW guardian builds, even. --Rain Spell (talk) 22:36, 21 September 2017 (UTC)
Feedback 2018/03/01[edit]
I don't know if this is correct but it seems inconsistent with Aegis being a beginning with a capital or not?
- I changed the headers that had it to be capital, but it seems that the API says lower-case unless it's at the beginning of the sentence, so I'll be leaving the rest as is for the moment. --Rain Spell (talk) 01:10, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
Could use clarification[edit]
The description of Aegis currently reads, "Aegis is a boon which will block the single next incoming attack of any kind." I don't believe this is true because there are many end-game attacks by bosses which Aegis can't protect you from. Aegis doesn't save players from Soulless Horror's Walls, Goreseval's World Eater, Xera's Ambient Magic, and many more. I think the description should be written to say that it can block most single incoming attacks, and drop the "of any kind" bit. Furthermore, perhaps we add a table (Enemy, Encounter/Location, Skill Name) to the page for skills/attacks that Aegis can't block. Chickenooble (talk) 17:32, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
