Ringmaster (personal story)
The Ringmaster
“That which goes up must eventually come down. Queen Jennah's Kryta has had it all. Now it—and she—must tumble and fall!
The Ringmaster is a man, originally of unknown background and origin, who intends to bring down Queen Jennah and her version of Kryta. He brainwashes various carnies and civilians to fight for him by using the Floating Grizwhirl, a magical device invented by the Inquest and sold to Uzolan.
Biography[edit]
Personal story[edit]
The Ringmaster became the head of a popular carnival, which he dubbed the Carnival Gambade, in Divinity's Reach. He used clowns, a strongman called Boris the Beast, a fortuneteller named Madame Gilda, and a snake charmer known as the Fabulous Chakravarti as his main performers and enjoyed the attention and fame the shows brought him. Unbeknownst to most, he was not originally Krytan although some carnies suspected him of being a foreigner.[1] Despite his seemingly harmless and charming nature, the Ringmaster was actually scheming with a select few of his carnies to use the Floating Grizwhirl, which the inventor Uzolan had acquired from the Inquest, to hypnotize the citizens of the Krytan capital and turn them against Queen Jennah in a riot.
By 1325 AE, the Ringmaster commissioned Uzolan to make copies of the Grizwhirl and ultimately asked him to create a superior copy of the device which would have greater effect and bigger range. The inventor seemingly remained unaware of the true purpose for the modifications and delivered an improved Grizwhirl to the Ringmaster.
The hypnotic effect of the Grizwhirl was tested on children such as Garand who were abducted shortly afterwards. The Ministry worried how the disappearances might reflect on their reputation, forcing Minister Caudecus to contact Logan Thackeray to investigate the matter. Logan in turn delegated the task to the Hero of Shaemoor who attended one of the Ringmaster's flashy shows where Garand had last been seen. While exploring the area, the Hero barely survived an ambush by glassy-eyed carnies and reported the suspicious incident to Logan who decided to focus the investigation on the carnival.
After the show, the Ringmaster spread word among the carnies that he was organizing a secret meeting in Blackroot Cut for potential new recruits. Unbeknownst to the attendees, however, the true purpose of the meeting was to test the hypnotic effects of the Grizwhirl on a larger scale. After activating the device, the Ringmaster made the attendees believe that everyone around them was a monster that needed to be killed. Leaving the hypnotized people to fight to the death, the satisfied Ringmaster returned to Divinity's Reach for the circus's latest show which would have a large enough audience to unleash the Grizwhirl on. During this time he sent a few of his minions to assault Uzolan's workshop seemingly to eliminate the inventor.
By the time the show reached its ending climax, the Ringmaster and his lackeys set the plan in motion, using the improved Grizwhirl to hypnotize the masses in the capital. Before they could incite a riot, however, their plot was foiled by the timely arrival of a group of Seraph led by the Hero and Logan Thackeray who had discovered what the Ringmaster was up to. The Ringmaster was slain after a clash, and the affected citizens were released from hypnosis. The rest of the carnies were arrested and sentenced to jail for being the Ringmaster's accomplices in the plot against the Crown.
Living World Season 3[edit]
Minister Caudecus's journals, which the Pact Commander recovered from Beetlestone manor during the Siege of Divinity's Reach in 1330 AE, revealed that the Ringmaster had been a Separatist from Ascalon. The attack on Uzolan's workshop would thus seem to have been staged to clear Uzolan, who had been the Ringmaster and Caudecus's accomplice, of suspicion. The use of the Grizwhirl had been part of Caudecus's many plans to dethrone Queen Jennah.

- Mime: He's more tight-lipped than I am. To tell the truth, I don't think he's even Krytan. But the less said about that the better.
