Marjory Delaqua's mother
“My family isn't the friendliest towards nobles. It's nothing personal, I assure you. But...my mother...she's still holding onto a very old grudge.
— Seraph Belinda Delaqua in Disturbance in Brisban Wildlands
Marjory Delaqua's mother, or "Momma",[1] is the former matriarch of the Delaqua family who lives with her husband in Rurikton in Divinity's Reach. They have four daughters: Mireille Delaqua, Elyse Delaqua, Belinda Jane Delaqua, and Marjory Delaqua.
Biography[edit]
Early years[edit]
The Delaqua matriarch and her husband had four daughters while living in Rurikton: Mireille Delaqua, Elyse Delaqua, Belinda Jane Delaqua, and Marjory Delaqua. The family was not wealthy, and they made their living running an imports shop while the family's matriarch also sewed dresses. They never ventured beyond the Village of Shaemoor.[2][3] The family was not the friendliest towards nobles because the Delaqua mother held onto a very old grudge.[4]
When Belinda and Marjory turned seven, their mother gave each of them a wooden duck, precious family heirlooms originating from the Jade Sea that had been used in their wedding. When Marjory became sad over losing her blue duck while visiting family in Shaemoor, Belinda painted her duck blue and gave it to her sister. The mother became livid at Belinda desecrating the family heirloom in such a manner. The father used to tell his daughters bedtime stories about the Jade Wind to scare them, suggesting that they turn into malicious tyrants like Shiro Tagachi and end the world if they do bad in school. When Belinda cursed Shiro's name, the father was amused by it, while the mother was more superstitious about uttering the Betrayer's name so casually.[5]
Living World Season 1[edit]
After the Battle for Lion's Arch in 1326 AE, the mother grew worried about Marjory's involvement in the battle against the notorious terrorist Scarlet Briar and asked Belinda to check up on her in the Dead End bar. Upon learning that Marjory was dating Kasmeer Meade and remembering the mother's dislike of nobles, Belinda expressed worry about Kasmeer being of noble lineage. Marjory assured Belinda that Kasmeer was no longer a noble and was now working as a fellow investigator. Belinda left shortly after, delivering the news to the Delaqua matriarch.[1]
Living World Season 2[edit]
When the mother got sick right before Belinda was killed by Mordrem in 1327 AE, her husband focused on treating her while Mireille took over the family shop and became the family's new matriarch. The father informed his wife of Belinda's death, witnessing her breaking down in tears while Marjory left for the bar as she could not stay in the room with her grieving parents.[5] When Elyse gave birth to her son Phillip Delaqua the same year, both the Delaqua patriarch and his wife adored their grandson.[6] Being with her grandson helped lift her spirits, but the former matriarch still felt empty over losing Belinda.
End of Dragons[edit]
While Elyse and Mireille visited Cantha to join Kasmeer in supporting Marjory on her quest to lay Belinda's spirit to rest in 1335 AE, Phillip stayed with his grandfather and grandmother in Rurikton.[6]

- Marjory Delaqua: Strong as ever. What do you think of Kasmeer?
- Seraph Belinda Delaqua: She's beautiful. And charming. But, isn't she from a noble family?
- Marjory Delaqua: She used to be. Her family lost its titles under...tragic circumstances. She's one of us now. She works for me.
- Seraph Belinda Delaqua: I see. Well, in that case, I wish you and her every happiness. I can see that you care deeply for her.

- Kasmeer Meade: What was it like for you? In the Ministry Guard.
- Marjory Delaqua: It was a job like any other job. Except I got to eat, sleep, and breathe it.
- Kasmeer Meade: When did you join?
- Marjory Delaqua: As soon as I was able. My father...isn't nice like yours was. Nor is my family wealthy.
- Kasmeer Meade: I'm sorry.
- Marjory Delaqua: Not your fault. It is what it is.
- Kasmeer Meade: Do you see your family?
- Marjory Delaqua: My mother, yes. And my sisters. Not my father. Not if I can avoid it.

- Kasmeer Meade: Tell me about your family. What are your mother and sisters like?
- Marjory Delaqua: Not much to tell. My mother sews dresses for a living. Two of my sisters are married, and the other is a Seraph.

- Marjory Delaqua: I'm fine, I'm just thinking of the funeral. I don't remember most of it, I...
- <Character name>: You don't have to feel bad. It was a really hard day.
- Marjory Delaqua: It was. Mom was already sick by then, we were worried she wouldn't make it. When she found out, when Dad told her... I couldn't stay in the room. I could hear her crying the whole way to the bar.
- <Character name>: How is she doing now?
- Marjory Delaqua: Better. She gets to spend a lot of time with Phillip, which helps... But it's never been the same. Not entirely. It always feels like there's something missing. A smell I can't remember. [...]

- Marjory Delaqua: I treated mine like a toy. Belinda carried hers around like a precious family heirloom...which it was.
- Marjory Delaqua: I lost mine visiting family in Shaemoor. I was heartbroken.
- Marjory Delaqua: Belinda got annoyed whenever I cried, so she painted hers blue and gave it to me instead. Mom was livid...
- Marjory Delaqua: Apparently the ducks were made in a small Luxon village near the Jade Sea. I think I'll go there next. [...]
- Marjory Delaqua: Dad used to tell us bedtime stories about the Jade Wind to scare us. Something about "if you do bad in school, you could end up a malicious tyrant like Shiro and end the world."
- <Character name>: That seems reasonable.
- Marjory Delaqua: Oh, Belinda took him VERY seriously. Cursed Shiro's name like a Krytan should curse Burntfur's. Dad thought it was cute, Mom was a little more superstitious.
