Marjory Delaqua's father
“Dad's a big softy, once you get to know him...
Marjory Delaqua's father is the patriarch of the Delaqua family who lives with his wife in Rurikton in Divinity's Reach. They have four daughters: Mireille Delaqua, Elyse Delaqua, Belinda Jane Delaqua, and Marjory Delaqua.
Biography[edit]
Early years[edit]
The Delaqua patriarch and his wife had four daughters while living in Rurikton: Mireille Delaqua, Elyse Delaqua, Belinda Jane Delaqua, and Marjory Delaqua. The family was not wealthy, and they made their living running an imports shop while the family's matriarch also sewed dresses.[1][2] The family was not the friendliest towards nobles because the Delaqua mother held onto a very old grudge.[3]
When Belinda was little, her rambunctioness drove her father to tears.[4] To calm her down once she reached reading age, he gave her one of their great-great-great-great-nan Sumalee Jagmi's journals which described Jagmi's life as a Canthan immigrant in Kryta, and Belinda ended up enjoying reading of their ancestor's life experiences. The father used to tell his daughters bedtime stories about the Jade Wind to scare them, suggesting that they turn into malicious tyrants like Shiro Tagachi and end the world if they do bad in school. When Belinda cursed Shiro's name, the father was amused by it, while the mother was more superstitious about uttering the Betrayer's name so casually.[5]
Elyse has described the family patriarch as being a "big softy" once people get to know him,[4] and Mireille has suggested that Marjory originally left the family because she was bored of their quiet life as shopkeepers who never ventured beyond the Village of Shaemoor.[3][6] Marjory, however, appears to have had a more troubled relationship with her father than her sisters while growing up, so much so that she actively avoided seeing him whenever she visited the family as an adult. Marjory has implied that she joined the Ministry Guard as soon as she was able to get away from her father.[1]
Living World Season 2[edit]
When his wife got sick right before Belinda was killed by Mordrem in 1327 AE, the father focused on treating her while Mireille took over the family shop. He informed his wife of Belinda's death, witnessing her breaking down in tears while Marjory left for the bar as she could not stay in the room with her grieving parents.[5] When Elyse gave birth to her son Phillip Delaqua the same year, both the Delaqua patriarch and his wife adored their grandson.[4]
End of Dragons[edit]
While Elyse and Mireille visited Cantha to join Kasmeer in supporting Marjory on her quest to lay Belinda's spirit to rest in 1335 AE, Phillip stayed with his grandfather and grandmother in Rurikton.[4]

- Marjory Delaqua: It was a job like any other job. Except I got to eat, sleep, and breathe it.
- Kasmeer Meade: When did you join?
- Marjory Delaqua: As soon as I was able. My father...isn't nice like yours was. Nor is my family wealthy.
- Kasmeer Meade: I'm sorry.
- Marjory Delaqua: Not your fault. It is what it is.
- Kasmeer Meade: Do you see your family?
- Marjory Delaqua: My mother, yes. And my sisters. Not my father. Not if I can avoid it.

- Kasmeer Meade: Tell me about your family. What are your mother and sisters like?
- Marjory Delaqua: Not much to tell. My mother sews dresses for a living. Two of my sisters are married, and the other is a Seraph.

- Seraph Belinda Delaqua: Maybe. My family isn't the friendliest towards nobles. It's nothing personal, I assure you. But...my mother...she's still holding onto a very old grudge.

- <Character name>: You don't have to feel bad. It was a really hard day.

- Marjory Delaqua: Dad used to tell us bedtime stories about the Jade Wind to scare us. Something about "if you do bad in school, you could end up a malicious tyrant like Shiro and end the world."
- <Character name>: That seems reasonable.
- Marjory Delaqua: Oh, Belinda took him VERY seriously. Cursed Shiro's name like a Krytan should curse Burntfur's. Dad thought it was cute, Mom was a little more superstitious.
