Li Bo

Li Bo (586–618 CC)[1] is the deceased husband of Li Ai and father of Li Lan who lived on Shing Jea Island during the unification of Cantha. He joined Emperor Usoku's army during the campaign against the Kurzicks but grew disillusioned with the horrors of war and defected from the army to return to his family. He died a few months later, leaving his wife in particular wracked with grief.

Biography[edit]

Early years[edit]

Li Bo lived on Shing Jea Island in Cantha during Emperor Usoku's reign. He first met his elementalist wife-to-be, Li Ai, when he found her painting at the Panjiang Peninsula in spring. Bo interrupted Ai while she worked, causing her to ruin the painting which in turn infuriated her. Despite the bad first impression, Ai eventually warmed up to Bo and began a relationship with him. Although Bo had planned to take Ai back to Panjiang to propose to her years later, it was Ai who proposed to him first. Seven years after the proposal, Ai gave birth to their daughter Li Lan whom Bo loved with all his heart.[2]

When Emperor Usoku began the unification of Cantha circa 1637 CC (1127 AE), Bo, along with several other Shing Jea clansmen, was called to serve in the imperial army and join the emperor's forces on the mainland for the upcoming offensive against the Kurzicks of the Echovald Forest.[3] Bo often sent letters home and described his experiences in the army to his wife and daughter while training both his combat and music playing skills as well as befriending fellow soldiers such as the unusually tall and strong woman Hyo-Sonn.[4]

After witnessing the horrific acts committed by Usoku and the Ministry of Purity during their campaign to unite Cantha, Bo and Hyo-Sonn defected from the army and fled back to Shing Jea.[5] Bo eventually perished at the age of 32, however, leaving his family in Hyo-Sonn's care. His last letter was addressed to both Ai and Lan where he professed his love for them while encouraging them to keep on living.[2] A grave monument was erected in his honor on the path leading to the summit of Sunqua Peak.

Sunqua Peak Fractal[edit]

Bo's death would haunt his wife Ai whose grief would only increase once their daughter Lan passed away two years later at the age of 12.[6] As a result, Ai unleashed her elemental powers that upset the natural balance of Sunqua Peak as she blamed herself for her daughter's death while still lamenting her husband's fate.

By the time Dessa and her team of fractal explorers ended up in Sunqua Peak Fractal which depicted a distorted view of the historical event, they learned about the elemental imbalance and confronted the grieving Ai in battle to calm her down. They also collected Bo's letters, which had been scattered all over the peak, to learn more about the family's history before returning the letters to Ai in order to give her and her family closure.

Related achievements[edit]

Notes[edit]

Li Bo's letters found in the fractal mention both Lan and the dates 1637–1638 CC (1127-1128 AE) which correspond with the timeframe of Emperor Usoku's campaign to unite Cantha in 1127 AE. However, Bo and Lan's graves show the dates 586–618 and 608–620 CC respectively, which would place their deaths over a millennium earlier than the events described in the letters.
