The two month leave[edit]
Hello Inc, and apologies for posting this question so late.
In 2016, you took a 59-day leave as a way of protesting Mora's ban that same year. From the talk page comment, it is clear that the whole situation was something you felt, or perhaps still feel, very passionate about. You stated that you spent the "first month being disappointed with the wiki community" because the "affair was handled pretty insufficiently".
Was the two month leave something that you wanted to do for Mora, or was it a way of distancing yourself from the wiki community? Has that feeling reemerged since then? Why did you decide to stay, despite those negative feelings towards the wiki? —Ventriloquist 16:38, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
- Hey Vent, thanks for the questions. Three years is a long time, and to be honest, I have troubles recognising myself in many comments I wrote in the past. While I cannot nor want to fully reconstruct my mindset and feelings from that time, I'll try to answer to the best of my abilities.
- My break then was first and foremost out of solidarity to Mora.
- The other purpose was a response to what Tanetris said. My leave was supposed to serve as an example to show that every user is valuable, that no one is expendable and that the wiki would only hurt itself driving people, particularly regulars, away. In hindsight, I doubt my actions had any effect other than making myself unhappy.
- To answer your other question, I never intended to leave the wiki permanently. I actually felt rather bad about neglecting my Gem Store documentation "duties" on the wiki during my absence.
- As for feelings, no, they haven't re-emerged in that form. My response from 2016 was majorly influenced by my then particularly negative mentality.
- That said, I'm still not quite happy with how we handle user conflicts (re: favouritism) nor am I satisfied with the continuing apathy of the community when it comes to discussions, conflicts or RfAs. I do think, however, that the later has vastly improved over the years and the community now feels more than a "community" than it did in the past.
- I hope I was able to answer your questions sufficiently. talk 18:44, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
