Guild Hall decorations' infobox[edit]
While updating homestead decoration pages with the new infobox and nav, I encountered an issue and questions regarding guild hall decorations. To be exact, I wasn't sure which information to include in the new type of infobox. Since many decorations are shared between homesteads and guild halls, does it also mean, that now they share the same decor "id" that is displayed in API? For example, Lion Statue (Handiwork) - homestead decoration and its decor "id" is 713. Guild halls share the same decoration which is Lion Statue - and according to their current infobox, its "id" is 72922, but in the API they are under the "item" category instead, and not decoration. In this case - which information should be used, in order to update guild hall decorations' infoboxes? Maybe an example of the guild hall decorations' infobox would also be a good addition to this project, the same way Kodan Hero Statue was presented? Sorry if it's a silly question, I'm still new to the API and understanding how it fully works, thus for now I left out the shared guild hall decoration pages (on the ones I worked on). Vysnaite 13:16, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hey, first thank you for joining the project! And yeah, I guess I wasn't clear about the ids, but it is simply like this: homestead decorations only have 'decoration id', and guild hall decorations have the normal 'id'. And yes, the gh decorations are listed as items in the API because technically speaking, the page for them is both for the schematic (the item that unlocks the deco) and the decoration itself in the decoration menu, similar to how we document outfits. Hope it is more clear and if not, do not hesitate to reach out again. ~Sime 15:32, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for having me! And thank you for answering my questions, things seem to be way more clear now. I also noticed that you added an updated example for the Lion Statue decoration - I appreciate it! I will make sure to backtrack the guild hall decorations that I missed and update them with the new infoboxes too :) Vysnaite 15:57, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
List of Future/Questionable Decorations[edit]
What should we do to these pages in the table? If not, I will just leave the table here as a reminder. --Tery3065 (talk) 05:42, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- No wiki page yet(future) | All of WvW siege decors and some other decors(architecture/plant/sculpture)
- Wrong image format | Bronze Triple Trouble Trophy, Bronze Chak Gerent Trophy and their Silver/Gold variants
Which nav should we use? or fix navigation template itself | Tranquil Birdbath, Infernal Facade (Handiwork)- Wayfinder's Versatile Table Decoration and its variants| need some touch as mentions in table
Black lion's only group doesn't have navigation yet | Waystation + Plush Pals
- Well, we could technically create those pages in preparation with the future tag, or we can just wait till they eventually add them ingame. Good work collecting this.
- for #3, either nav works because the homestead navs will be eventually split and then we will be able to have both at the same time. ~Sime 12:58, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- Okay so #3/5 is cleared. #1 is what it is.
- What about #2, these 2 have mark as placeholder in guildhall deco page since 2016. should we leave it likes that for now? Same as some unclear old image of some deco, taking image should be easier with new decoration mechanic.
- and for #4 Wayfinder's Versatile Table Decoration, this page could be easily confused with its own container. I think its should rename to Wayfinder's Versatile Table (Decoration) add blanket like other deco or add {{otheruse}} or both.
- I know its not this project main goal --Tery3065 (talk) 14:16, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
[edit]
How can we improve this Template:Homestead decorations nav, if more decorations coming its gonna be long list and hard to edit. Yet still doesn't have tab for Theme decoration. What should its look? Will we split them and create fanmade subgroup just like how GH nav did? Right now, yes. its looking just likes how in game is. But that the problem, only icon is hard to navigate even if in-game. My though is it should look something like GH nav but merging some categories maybe Planters and Topiaries/Trees and Foliage/Natural Features together since they're all-Natural thing. --Tery.3065 06:08, 5 October 2024 (UTC)
- So, the nav should be split just as the guild hall navs are, based on the categories. And yes, only using icons is an issue, it should look the same as GH navs - aka icon AND text. Not sure about merging categories, especially as we are expecting more and more decorations to be added. ~Sime 14:29, 5 October 2024 (UTC)
- Then its gonna look something like this? -- Tery.3065 18:29, 5 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yup yup, exactly that's the plan. ~Sime 19:10, 5 October 2024 (UTC)
- All main categories should be okay for now. What about those theme categories? Is it worth to make nav for them or not? If you look at Heart of Thorns category, it's just duplicate of all potted decorations. or adding it in "See also" is enough. -- Tery.3065 22:04, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for your work! And imho yeah just See also works for them. ~Sime 22:21, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

27 November 2024 questions[edit]
Heya, while working on the new and old decoration pages, I came across a few things that I would want to confirm.
- When it comes to festival decorations, even tho a ton of them came up in the API with this update, should we make all the pages now? Wintersday is approaching pretty soon, so it's nice that User:Tery3065 already took care of that, but the rest of the events are still months away from now, so I thought maybe we should start preparing them once the certain festival is coming soon? Even though it seems like someone already created pages for SAB too.
- What should be done with PvP trophy decos? It seems that we cannot get them anymore, and weirdly enough they decided to put them for homesteads.
- What should be done with Siege decos? Meanwhile, those seem to still be obtainable for GH, I couldn't find any recipes or ways to get homestead version, even tho it seems a lot of them were already showing in the API since JW launch?
- If the recipe requires a currency or an item that comes from certain content, are we also supposed to flag that xpac/lws in the infobox? For example, Bloodstone Turret Fragment (Handiwork) recipe requires Blood Ruby which comes from LWS3, so does it mean the page should have all 3 marks: HoT (because of raid), LWS3 (because of recipe item), JW (because of homestead)? Just want to make sure, because that means a ton of pages are missing documentation from this part.
Also, these are under question mark:
- ID_161 is from HoT Deluxe version, but did they add a way to obtain homestead version?
- ID_72 and ID_574 seems to be the duplicate of same deco.
- ID_396 and ID_458 don't have a name but show up in API. Vysnaite (talk) 23:11, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- IMO we should create every page that show in in-game UI, this includes #1-3 of your questions, with a status flag of course. I know lot of people having question about these decors, especially those from Four Wind festival that's what they're looking for.
- for #4 yep as it should be, including something that map exclusive vendor items/materials. e.g. Portrait of Caudecus (Handiwork) -- Tery.3065 23:37, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah as Tery says, if it shows ingame somehow then it's a good idea to add it to the wiki so that people can search for it, even if they see that it's not (yet) available. PvP decos are weird but I guess if they are ingame too then they should have a page, even if they gonna be marked as "Discontinued". The siege decos are currently tagged as Future, so hopefully they will appear at some point live. ~Sime 00:06, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- and for API you link it here #1.Same with PvP trophies could make a page for it. #2-3 just skip it for now until they actual release in-game. -- Tery.3065 03:24, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- Oh right, I completely forgot about the fact that with this update we can actually see upcoming decorations while in decorating mode! I guess then ya, it makes more sense to start preparing pages now, since as you guys mentioned, people already might be looking for them just because they show up in-game. As for PvP trophy ones, I want to have a small hope that maybe they will add a way to get them for homesteads in the future, but I guess time will show how it goes. Should the pages of them have a note that even though they got discontinued for GH, there "might be a chance" for them being added in homesteads? Or just leave the "Discontinued" tag like GH equivalents have? Other than that, thanks for the help! Vysnaite (talk) 10:44, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- I wouldn't mark any of the homestead decorations as "discontinued" just yet. After all, they did add homestead versions of them so I'm hopeful that there will be recipes for them. I'd go with "future" status for everything that shows up ingame/api but has no recipe available yet — Asuaka (talk) 22:53, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
Guild Hall decors req[edit]
Since homestead decors were tackled some time ago, by fixing their | requires =
parameter (where it was needed), as well as adding the notes about when they got released, I was thinking about re-visiting GH decors pages once again, to do some clean up left behind from before. I have never done any Scribe or GH decorating-related stuff in-game before, so the gathered and known info that I have comes from various sources rather than personal experience. That being said, before getting into editing those, I wanted to make sure and get a confirmation regarding a few questions so that we could come to a mutual agreement.
- What should be the "default" parameter for GH decors pages? Now that the first 3 xpacs have guild halls, is it safe to make it ― hot, pof, eod? Or should it remain HoT only?
- The majority of the pages had the parameter set to HoT only even with the introduction of PoF and EoD, with some exceptions having PoF or none at all.
- Scribe discipline was introduced with the release of HoT. Since 3 xpacs have GHs now, can a player level Scribe while having, let's say, EoD only? Or does it still require to primarily have HoT? According to the Scribe page, you can become a Scribe at any of the GHs, so how does it work if you don't own HoT? That applies to recipes too, since the majority of them you get automatically unlocked if you have the required rating, do they still unlock without HoT? To be exact ― is auto acquire of the recipes tied only to the rating of Scribe, or also to xpacs the person has? Also, according to the Decoration page, a player without HoT cannot decorate GHs?
- Keep in mind there might be additional req, which usually will be based on the ingredients of the recipe, i.e. Portrait of Caudecus requires LWS3.
- Based on the answer to the first question ― how the parameter should be handled with the festivals decors?
- Since festivals are free-to-play content, it would make sense that it doesn't have much of requirements, and that's how I first handled the pages from this category. A lot of pages (before switching to the new decor infobox) didn't have req set to those, but there was still a part that would have it set to HoT. So when I first started working on those, it seemed logical to not have req for this category, but after gaining more experience with the editing, I learned that not only content, but also recipes, and ingredients become a factor to set the right parameter.
- Is there an easy way to find out when certain GH decors were released?
- Festival decors are usually pretty easy to back-track since most of the time all you have to do is visit a certain year's page. Now, what about the rest of them? What if they are not listed on the game updates pages, or if "What Links Here" tool doesn't help much? Is the only way ― to manually check them one by one through editing history and base it on when the page was created? But even then, it's not always accurate as pages are not always created on the same day they were released, unless maybe tying them to the closest game update patch.
- While it's not necessary to find every release date, it's just something that would look pleasant to the eye and consistent together with homestead decors. As well as the fact, that some GH decors pages already have such a note, but sadly, not the majority of them.
~ Vysnaite (talk) 15:03, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- HoT should be default by all GH decor since "Guild hall decoration" is HoT content, PoF/EoD have their own GH but its not confirm if they can learn scribe or not (Scribing Station#note have some note on it but still need a verification). So, only HoT should be better.
- only HoT+ material requirement
- Check every update and festival pages after HoT released would be my answer. Category:Updates some of game updates have wiki note section for them but not all.
- I think it should be something like:
| requires =<hot>, <releases on>, <material requirement>
i.e. Academic Wall| requires = hot,soto
- adding requires param will add the top right corner icon + footer category lebel as <Category: <Xpac> content>. People wont see <requires> text in the infobox and that will be useful for some SMW work. That's my opinion, let see what User: Sime think --𝙏ᴇʀʏ 01:45, 11 January 2025 (UTC)
- As far as I know, you can make decorations also if you have only-PoF or only-EoD now. This guild hall stuff is really hard to verify because most people just have all the expansions, but I asked on the wiki discord if anyone could test the scribing stuff.
- Yeah that one is really tied to the first question and if we can get an answer for it, but it should be REQUIRED EXPANSION TO ACCESS + CONTENT REQUIRED FOR CRAFTING.
- Not really, there are some ways you can use smw to order pages based on the creation of the page and that's the most you can really get, if there wasn't a big patch where we would list them on the release page.~Sime 16:32, 13 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for your opinions and insights thus far! Scribing indeed seems to be a little tricky, which is why I wanted to confirm these things before trying to tackle the articles again. I wish that sometimes these specific requirements or their changes would be in the official patch notes as well (if they changed), as it might be quite difficult to confirm it without alt accounts, just like User:Sime mentioned.
- As for the example that User:Tery3065 used, to be exact the Academic Wall, I think that SotO being there is just a mistake, and most likely it was set to that because the decorations with this "theme" came out with the SotO release? Since I cannot see anything that would require to have SotO for this exact case. Probably it was just missed and left out while switching to the new infoboxes. Unless I'm mistaken, of course.
- Other than that, will see and wait with the editing, maybe someone else has some info regarding the questions, or someone from Discord will help out. Vysnaite (talk) 17:39, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
