Contested
Contested refers to waypoints and dungeon entrances and general locations which are prevented being accessed by ongoing events or other mechanics. Many waypoints and dungeons in high level zones are contested until an effort to capture the entrance or other locale is taken.
Whether a location is contested or not is only visible once you are already in the containing zone. For example: even if the Temple of Balthazar in the Straits of Devastation is contested, waypoints will appear uncontested to any player currently located outside of Straits of Devastation.
Notable contestable waypoints[edit]
Contested waypoints cannot be traveled to unless a conflicting event in the area or preceding areas is solved. In Orr, many of the waypoints are initially contested, and they only become available after aiding the Pact war effort against Zhaitan's forces. Some waypoints appear on the map but are always contested based on other circumstances, such as being on the opposing side in a PvP map.

Several high level dungeons can only be accessed after meta event in the area of the dungeon entrance has been completed. After completing the final group event in the chain, the dungeon becomes accessible for all players on the world, and will remain accessible until another event to defend the entrance location fails.
- Citadel of Flame – unlocked by completion of The Battle for the Flame Citadel and Senecus Castrum meta event.
- Crucible of Eternity – unlocked by completion of Toil for the Coil meta event.
- The Ruined City of Arah – unlocked by completion of Gates of Arah.
