This is a defector camp?

A way station. We defected from Joko's domain and stuck around to help others do the same. The desert is harsh, and the journey north is safer with a place to stop and rest.

What sort of danger can defectors expect?

Take your pick. Joko's forces hunt us, and if the Awakened don't get you, the Forged will. And if you dodge both of them, you still have the wildlife to answer to.
