Recalibrating the Waypoints[edit]
I can't recall any problems soloing this mission in regular exotic gear at all :/ Based on the edit history, I think at least two other users would agree with this. -Chieftain Alex 01:11, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
- Additionally, if you think it does warrant an additional walkthrough, please attempt to use proper naming. "Up pop the wiggly roots" is really not descriptive nor serves much of a purpose. Wiki walkthroughs are mostly fact-based, statements such as "all hell breaks loose." also doesn't have it's space.
- I would recommend swapping those statements for lines along the likes of "At this point Vine Tendrils will appear.", and "Many creatures will spawn putting pressure on the player." As it stands, the solo walkthrough does not add much to the current walkthrough of Recalibrating the Waypoints. Perhaps, if you would care to keep working on it, attempting to add info to the current walkthrough to make it more descriptive would be a better option.
- I don't believe that there are any cases of personal and/or living story which NEED more than one player, therefor just about every walkthrough should by default be written for a solo player, with possibly options if they have party members. -Darqam 01:38, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
- I have amended the texts as you suggested.
I have no intention of getting into an argument with either of you. I have spoken to many other players, like me, who are relatively new. The general consensus is that a small number of, apparently experienced players, seem determined to make things as difficult as possible. Trolling the forums or vandalising Wiki entries. That you may not see any point in an entry, is not in the spirit of Wiki. That you may have found a task easy, is irrelevant. That these tasks will be so much easier when a player reaches some higher status is impertantant. The quests have been offered now and many are having problems dealing with them. I am an experienced online game player and have been contributing to various Wikis for many years. My contributions have not altered nor undermined any existing entries. They have all been additions. I thank you for your suggestions regarding terminologies. Spacial (talk)
- Your efforts are appreciated, Spacial, but let me point out the problematic parts:
- "After initially taking control of the device, demonstrating to Phunt that it works, all hell breaks loose." — as Darqam said above, 'all hell breaks loose' is not a line fit for the wiki, less so for a walkthrough aimed at helping players.
- "Phase 3, Use your ranged weapon to destroy the Boss. This is a wearing down process, depending upon your weapon, a certain percentage of its life line will disappear with each round." — this line is redundant, because that's how most boss fights work. You attack the boss, avoid its attacks, and attack again. Moreover, the steps you describe are already mentioned in the general walkthrough.
- "It too me about 5 rounds with an Illusionist and a broad sword as my ranged weapon." — Subjective (and confusing) comment that doesn't add much value to the walkthrough itself. Illusionists and broadswords don't exist in Guild Wars 2, so I'm assuming you meant mesmer and greatsword, respectively.
- Most walkthroughs on this wiki (save for a few achievements) are already written from a solo perspective. The ones that aren't clearly state so, such as the Migraine achievement in the Hearts and Minds story step. But, as Darqam said, it would be more appreciated if you attempted to add to the existing walkthrough, rather than create a new 'solo' one. —Ventriloquist 11:11, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
- "I will amend the wording."
- "It is not redundant. Some other boss' are managed in phases, others are not. This is a description of how this Boss is dealt with and similar descriptions appear for other Boss'."
- "Other pages in this Wiki have description of personal experience where these are relevant to the matter in hand. It is perfectly acceptable. GW2 has some particularly poor, in-game descriptions of what must be done and expected, especially in comparison with similar games. A player, faced with seemingly endless cycles of essentially the same thing, over a period of time, might reasonably assume something is amiss, either with the quest or their execution of it. Pointing out that that it is indeed a repetitive cycle, grinding down the boss a little more each time is useful."
- "I disagree and in any case, the one on this page, certainly isn't."
I fail to quite see what your problem is here frankly. Spacial (talk)
- Ok, so I went through, and redid the mission just to be sure of all of this non-sense.
- So let's go through these lines, almost one by one.
- "If you need to solo this, it can be done, provided you have a character with a good quality, ranged weapon."
- The note of a ranged weapon is worthwile, other than that all missions are built to be solo-able, so nothing else her is really worth marking down.
- "After initially taking control of the device, demonstrating to Phunt that it works, A major battle begins."
- Well in the previous guide we have: "After recalibrating three waypoints, there will be attack of Mordrem in the form of two waves—which should be nothing new by now—followed by the boss, the Mordrem Leyleecher." which is much more descriptive, so that first line adds effectively nothing at all.
- "Initially, just fight as seems appropriate. Eventually you will be asked if you or Taimi will control the device. Let Taimi do it."
- It's not "fight as seems appropriate", it's "kill both waves of enemies". Also, in the first round, Taimi CAN'T operate it, only the player character. So this is also incorrect
- "Phase 1. A number of Tendrils will appear. Braham will find the one to destroy. Aid him. Once it has been destroyed, the Boss will appear, shrouded in a protective bubble."
- This adds no new information to the already existing line "Third, the Mordrem Leyleecher will bury underground and several Jungle Tendrils will spawn. You need to find one that won't attack you and defeat it to bring the Leyleecher back, encased in a bubble. If you wait for a while, Braham will find it for you. After that, the first phase starts over."
- "Phase 2, A Mordrem Husk will appear. It will head for Taimi. It must be destroyed. A second appears, same priority. A third will appear. This time it just needs to be damaged before the shroud protecting the boss (and the third husk), disappear."
- This isn't correct. It's timed base. I managed to never kill one Husk and just keeping him away from Taimi and it phased. The note about Husks is even present on the previous guide.
- "Phase 3, Use your ranged weapon to destroy the Boss. This is a wearing down process, depending upon your weapon, a certain percentage of its life line will disappear with each round."
- Except this part is timed, not health dependent, so this isn't even right.
- "After a time, the boss will disappear Braham will announce it has disappeared and you are back to phase 1. Get to Phase 3 again and continue to destroy that life line."
- Again, no new information that isn't present in the previous guide.
- "In phase 3, try to attack the boss from as far away as possible. Walk backward as it will follow you. If you are down, Braham will revive you, but you loose time."
- Worthwile tactic to note, something similar could be appended to the existing guide.
- "Eventually, when the Boss' life line is exhausted, it is destroyed. It too me about 5 rounds with an Illusionist and a broad sword as my ranged weapon."
- So... when the boss is dead he dies. Your observation on your weapons has absolutely no place here.
- So then, all summed up, it looks to me like most of the information is redundant or simply incorrect. I will edit the page once again with certain changes to the main walkthrough reflecting the good points I found in your walkthrough, but mainly will remove again the solo guide due to reasons listed above. -Darqam 17:05, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
