Room for discussion[edit]
summer time[edit]
UTC does not have "summer time". UTC is not a time zone, it is a universal time standard. London is in the Western European Time zone, which does have summer time. —Dr Ishmael 12:05, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
- Herby my arguments
- 1) In my opinion information should be easy to understand for everyone. GW2 wiki is a good place to find the exact time of reset. In different places of the world different time notations are used. For example: I'am from the Netherlands, there we do not use UTC and most people are not familiar with it. We write down time like this: 23:59 and are familiar with the time zone GMT+1. So we don't use PM and AM. I am almost certain that most people have difficulty translating the UTC time notation to their own time. If they would somehow know UTC, they still need to think about using +1, +2, -6 to get to their own time zone. Summer time or not. PM/AM or military notion. With all these possibilities of miscalculation and misinterpretation, the change is great they will not arrive at the exact time the reset will be. Why can we not place the time notations in multiple ways, so everyone can immediately understand it?
- 2) Your argument is that the UTC time is in the header. I must say that I had not noticed this before. I also did not notice that the time differs from the time I live in. Most people assume it is the time it is in there own time zone. This again proofs there is a big change of confusion about the exact time.
- 3) If you argue that people should only use UTC time, PDT notations should also be removed to stay consistent.
- Finally: Can you help to incorporate my concerns for confusion about time in the current way it is written down? Jurrit 12:44, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
- If I had my way, UTC would be the only time we listed anywhere on the wiki. Listing any specific time zone (even Anet's own PST/PDT) always raises problems, since it will be inaccurate for half the year due to daylight savings/summer time. —Dr Ishmael 12:50, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
- But this not an answer to my concern about easy to understand information. Can you give an answer about that? Jurrit 13:30, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

- What do you suggest we do, then? List every time zone in the world? No, UTC is a universal standard for a reason, and people should learn about it. —Dr Ishmael 13:52, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

- “Why can we not place the time notations in multiple ways” – Do you realize how many different timezones GW2 players live in? If we start to add more timezones, we would have to add them all to be fair. Instead we usually only list UTC, as it’s the only time the wiki works with, and PST/PDT, as it’s ArenaNet’s time. For the WvW reset, one could argue to add CEST as it’s the one the new reset time was based on (midnight for most European players). Btw. CEST is UTC+2, not +1; and CEST is also used in the Netherlands. In any way, I’d rather argue that people don’t even know their own timezone at all. Hence we list the UTC time, and give the current UTC clock as a reference. That way you can approximate when something happens. The AM/PM vs. 24 hour format is usually not an issue at all; this is an English wiki, and AM/PM is common enough. poke | talk 14:18, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
- I tried the timeanddate website, but that one only allows a certain date. It is not possible to use intervals. I would like to add CEST to the time for reset for WvW. I would look like this: 22:00 UTC (00:00 CEST 3:00 PM PDT). Agree? Jurrit 15:08, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
- The date can be ignored - the times still work and they show what the difference is. pling 15:31, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

- I am in favor of the solution of Poke. I am also interested how you make that work. Can anyone make that? Or do you need certain admin rights? Jurrit 20:54, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
