User talk:Dr ishmael/leveling weapons
Ineffable? That's far too posh a word for this wiki. Besides, it doesn't fit. Every time I get one of these, I say "oh no, another pair of useless, effing boots."
Snograt, proudly infuriating the good doctor for two years and counting.
Probably more. — snograt 20:44, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
- Your off-topic and often inappropriate comments are the only things keeping me sane around here, Snog my lad. (Yes I know you're about 20 years older than me.) —Dr Ishmael 20:57, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
- So Anet gave us a farting greatsword? Neat! —Dr Ishmael 14:00, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hey man. I just got a Discharging Pole and when I looked on the wiki, there was nothing but found this page. I'm not sure if you're collecting info about it but I'll give you it anyway, just in case. If you're not, then I'm sorry to dump this randomly on your page. The item code is [&AgF58wAA]. When I double click it, I get the choice off an level 44 Vagabond's Discharging Pole or a level 44 Deserter's Discharging Pole. I got the item from Drytop of a Inquest mob while doing the crystal race event. Odd that my level 80 would get a drop for a level 44. : / Anyhoo, sorry agin if this is no use to you man. - (Edit conflict) [&AgF58wAA] = 62329. The fact that you're only offered Deserter or Vagabond is useful - are you sure it didn't offer Survivor as well?
- The actual weapons are fully documented in the API, so don't worry about that data. I'm pretty sure the containers can drop anywhere in PvE and probably in WvW. The weapons are account bound, you're supposed to give them to your other characters who are still leveling. —Dr Ishmael 01:14, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
- Also, I think I'm just about ready to start posting the articles for all of the weapons: the crafted ones will each get their own page, and the loot ones will have variant-list pages like I did for the loot equipment. I suppose the containers will get a similar treatment, since they each have many different variants. The problem is that I have no clue how to link a specific container to specific weapons - all the containers have level 0. We'd have to get people to record like you did exactly which container they had and exactly which weapons were available in it, but I doubt we'd ever get more than 10% of them covered that way. :/ —Dr Ishmael 03:44, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
- Glad it's of some use to you man. Unfortunately all my characters are level 80 now so not actually any use to me. I'll keep it anyway incase I make a new one I suppose. I was only offered the two, Deserter and Vagabond. I'm not sure if this matters but I got it on my Ele. Perhaps the choices are profession specific. I tried opening it up with other chars (necro and ranger) but was only offered the same two choices. If I come across any more, do you want info on them too? Titan Crow 08:21, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
- Sure, I'll take any info I can get about them. —Dr Ishmael 12:07, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
Not sure if this will be helpful to you, but so far I've found 3 of these types of items. Each was found by a level 80 character:
Level 13 blue staff (Supplejack?) - Dropped by risen in Straits of Devastation. IIRC, it offered a choice of 4 stat options Level 26 green staff (Discharging Pole) - Dropped by a beetle in Dry Top. IIRC, it offered a choice of 2 stat options Level 39 yellow pistol? (called Red something with an orrian skin) - Dropped by a risen in Malchor's Leap. IIRC, it offered a choice of 3 stat options
Unfortunately, because they were so low level, and all my toons are 80th, I salvaged them. The initial items are account-bound and can't be sold, or I would have gladly listed them in the TP. Another quirk - each of them I have salvaged only produced luck and no crafting mats. Not sure if that is a bug or working as intended. If I find more, I will try to save them and provide details. - Thanks for the info! Your level 39 item was probably Crack o' Red Dawn, the Orrian Rifle. Not salvaging to materials definitely sounds odd. —Dr Ishmael 14:47, 23 September 2014 (UTC)
