User:Relyk/Indenting
Indenting (sometimes referred to as Tabbing) is the act of adding colons before the message to indicate who is responded to, which significantly eases following the discussion. Editors on Guidlwars2wiki are expected to indent, and to sign their comments with ~~~~ after their messages, on the same row.
When you feel an indentation has grown too long, you can reset it with {{ri}} and a clean indent:
(Reset indent) New useful message. ~~~~
Example headline[edit]
- Response to Comment #3
- Response to Response to Comment #3
- Response to Comment #3
- Response to Comment #1
How it looks in the edit window:[edit]
==Example headline== Comment #1 :Comment #2 ::Comment #3 :::Comment #4 ::::Comment #5 :::Response to Comment #3 ::::Response to Response to Comment #3 :Response to Comment #1 Comment #6 (new subject)
Threading[edit]
Now, if you want to reply to comment 5. Where do you put it? You don't put it beneath the new response to Comment 1, but directly below Comment 5, so it looks like:
==Example headline== Comment #1 :Comment #2 ::Comment #3 :::Comment #4 ::::Comment #5 :::::Response to comment #5 :::Response to Comment #3 ::::Response to Response to Comment #3 :Response to Comment #1 Comment #6 (new subject)
Formatting[edit]
Many users prefer to insert a horizontal line after each thread. This is completely optional. Users also use {{ri}} to indicate a reset in the indent for extended threads:
- Response to Comment #3
- Response to Response to Comment #3
- Response to Comment #3
(Reset indent) Comment #3 continuation
- Response to Comment #1
