Utilities

Engineering Kits: Kits are an extremely powerful skill type that allow an Engi to change their weapon skills quickly. For example, if you press Grenade Kit, your skills 1 through 5 are changed into different types of grenades. Grenade, Bomb, Flamethrower, and Mortar Kits are used in several DPS builds, while Med Kit and Elixir Gun are generally reserved for healers – but not always! Tool Kit is rarely used in PvE currently, but it can be used in WvW for its’ skill 5, Magnet, is a long-range Pull.

Gadgets: Gadgets are the second most used utility in DPS Engi builds, specifically A.E.D., which is a very strong heal skill and its toolbelt has a useful CC, and Throw Mine, a high-damaging skill with the added benefit of removing boons from enemies. All the other gadgets have use cases, for example Personal Battering Ram can be a strong source of CC in support builds.

Elixirs: Elixirs are a very strong option when playing solo because of the boons they can provide. Elixir U is especially strong for higher quickness uptime, while Elixir B’s toolbelt (Toss Elixir B) can be used to provide 3 stacks of Stability to mitigate certain mechanics.

Turrets: Turrets are stationary allies that automatically attack enemies. Their damage is very low, but there are instances where their utility and/or toolbelts are useful. The most common use case is a healer build with the trait Experimental Turrets, which allows turrets to reflect projectiles and to grant boons in a group. For DPS builds, the two most commonly used turrets are Healing Turret, which is a very strong heal skill, and Rifle Turret, because of its toolbelt skill (Automatic Fire), an instant-cast, low cooldown, and relatively strong skill.
