GW2 vs GW1 (Opinions)[edit]
NOTE: Any comments in regards to these opinions can be redirected at my talk page.
Energy : I'm VERY excited about the zero energy cost for all skills. Energy potions and similar mechanics in other games was irritating, and the recharge already seemed like enough of a 'consequence' for using a skill. Switching Energy to be purely movement-based (dodging) was HUGE.
Dynamic Events : nothing irritated me more than feeling obligated to complete quests I didn't feel like doing. I didn't care if the Farmer lost all his pigs, it wasn't my problem. And the lure of ale and 15 gold wasn't that enticing. But NOW... You say centaurs are attacking a village?! One that I was hoping to do some selling/trading at?! Well dammit, I'm on my way! It's nice to actually SEE the fruits of your labor now, especially on a personal level.
Skills : I'm a fan of the fixed attack skills. In GW1 there was an overwhelming possibility of builds. and as soon as one became reliable, it was adopted by everyone and became part of the metagame. Then usually the skills had to be nerfed to allow balancing. And thus the cycle began: New Build > Metagame > Nerfed > New Build and so on. At least you have the option to change Utility skills outside on combat while exploring in GW2. Should balance things more I think.
More to come -- stick around!
